30.2 to JM Vince, and another! More catching in the slips. Keeping it full pays dividends again, the ball straightens on Vince who is playing forcefully on the front foot and sends a thick edge to third slip. 70/4
1975612.94907010
31.6 to BA Stokes, chipped to mid-on! Dream time for Sri Lanka. Pushes the delivery fuller, Stokes again getting forward and mistimes a drive...the bat twisted in his hand. He can barely believe. 83/5
1123102.81514001
1706433.76696010
75.2 to MM Ali, got him, edged on to the pads and snapped up by short leg! Chameera has a wicket to celebrate and Sri Lanka have knocked over another before lunch. Bit of an indeterminate waft to a length ball from Moeen, hit the inside edge and looped to the close catcher... Maybe a touch of inward movement off the seam. 231/7
75.6 to SCJ Broad, played on! Two in the over for Dushmantha! Short and not-so-sweet from Broad, playing his shots when he might have been better off trying to hang around in support of his senior partner... Thick inside edge attempting to drive and stumps splattered. 233/8
89.3 to JM Bairstow, walloped high and not so handsomely, into the stratosphere, and Bairstow instantly knows he's in trouble. The catch plops into the hands of mid-on and that's the end of an exceptional rescue act. 289/9
1334633.53606010
20.1 to AN Cook, full, nibbling away, Cook goes for the big cover drive - and nicks off! Shanaka has his maiden Test wicket and it's quite the catch, England's captain and record run-scorer, who won't be reaching the 10,000 mark today (unless something very strange happens). Unlike Cook to get lulled by a change bowler but there you have it. The debutant gets his reward for pitching the ball up. 49/1
20.4 to NRD Compton, another one gone, two in four balls for Shanaka, Compton edging to first slip! What an over, only his second in Test cricket... Compton looks dolefully at the pitch, think the ball nipped back a fraction as he came forward, juicy outside edge and it was snaffled a inch or two above the ground by Thirimanne, tumbling to take the offering. 49/2
22.2 to JE Root, full length, draws the drive... and gone, steered to third slip! Shanaka has given England a right boot to the knackers, his third wicket in eight deliveries and there is now a proper wobble on. Test cricket is back all right! Root was looking to assert himself, probably was a bit wide and he went hard at it, thick edge and it went straight to the catcher Mathews had stationed slightly towards gully. SL are enjoying Headingley again. 51/3
11.312522.17552100
72.3 to AD Hales, oh dear, he's slapped this straight to deep extra cover! After more than 200 balls of watchful forbearance, something like natural instinct takes over and Hales tries to launch Herath inside out, wasn't close enough to the bounce and a soupcon of turn took the ball away and the stroke out of his control - and there's the man Chameera, taking an excellent low catch running in!. 224/6
90.3 to ST Finn, an ambitious mow, and that will be the end of that. Herath spears this one a touch wider, Finn misses with a roundhouse swipe, and Chandimal whips off the bails long before his bat is back in the frame. 298/10

4.4 to JK Silva, got him, gloving through - the short ball works! Maybe a bit of extra grunt in this from Anderson, Silva was trying to get forward and the ball spat like an angry llama, he was hopping to get out of the way but couldn't avoid getting the faintest touch, possibly top edge rather than glove, through to Bairstow. 12/2
26.6 to AD Mathews, got him! This is the one that goes the other way, Mathews was lining up the outswing, and was beaten past the inside edge and struck in line of off stump .... 77/5
28.1 to MD Shanaka, that's too good, and Shanaka nicks off. A sublime curling delivery that was bending into the edge from the moment it left the hand, threatening to go down leg, sliding past a limp defence, and Bairstow gathers the resulting grazed edge for his fourth of the innings!. 81/6
30.4 to HMRKB Herath, gets bat on this one... but only in order to jab it to fourth slip, taken above the head! Anderson is going through Sri Lanka quicker than week-old kottu roti here, probably kinder to put Herath out of his misery. Smartly taken by Stokes, too. 83/7
36.4 to RMS Eranga, speared down the leg side, England think there was a nick on this... Not given by Rod Tucker but England review and Hot Spot picks up the tiniest of inside edges, then on to the pads and Bairstow grabbed it, his fifth catch of the innings. Up goes the finger second time around and SL have been bundled out for 91, Anderson taking five. 91/10
1012142.10482002
3.6 to FDM Karunaratne, Broad gets this one to straighten and it kisses the outside edge, England have their breakthrough! Bairstow fizzes the ball up in the air in celebration and Karunaratne's outta here... Further evidence of Broad's increased potency to left-handers, maybe could have been left on length but the line was perfect. 10/1
5.2 to BKG Mendis, superb delivery, drawn forward and takes the edge, another one gone! SL are glugging like a burst drain, fractional away movement off the surface this time, Mendis feeling in front of his body, gossamer-thin nick and Bairstow stoops to take his third catch in nine deliveries!. 12/3
33.6 to PVD Chameera, pitched up and driven, Finn plunges forward at mid-off... and scoops up a full-length diving catch! He lies on his back and points to the sky. Blinder! They are going to check this with the third umpire but looks like it went straight in on the first replay, yep, S Ravi is happy, so are England, Broad has another and Sri Lanka are eight down, still nine runs short of avoiding the follow-on. 90/8
35.5 to HDRL Thirimanne, Finn again! And Sri Lanka are on the verge of having to begin again! Thirimanne spoons up a drive, possibly off his pads, it hangs in the air and Finn hurls himself forward from mid-on to take another flying catch and send Sri Lanka's last recognised batsman on his way. Actually, think he just mistimed the shot. 91/9
722513.57355001
16.1 to LD Chandimal, wow, that didn't last long! Stokes right on the spot, bursting off the seam, off the edge, out to Vince at third slip, who dives to his right, clings on with both hands and that is the end of that!. 43/4

2.2 to FDM Karunaratne, that is simply unplayable! An utter snorter, swinging late and sharp across the left-hander's bows, then explodes off the seam to flick the splice through to Bairstow. You can't do much about that.... 10/1
10.6 to JK Silva, there we go! Anderson goes fuller, nips one off the seam and another feathered edge is gobbled by Bairstow, diving in front of first slip! He'd been half a yard short in recent overs, but this one was right on target, demanded a response from the batsman, and the movement did the rest. 35/2
24.2 to BKG Mendis, another one gone, Mendis plays on! Rising sharply outside off again, Mendis was trying to withdraw the bat but could only toe-end to down into his woodwork and SL's main resistance operator is gone!. 93/5
28.3 to MD Shanaka, and there it is, third time lucky! Another perfect example of the art, scrapes the edge as Shanaka plays on the back foot, straight into the gloves - nine catches for him, nine wickets for Anderson. Somebody call 999, SL are being burgled again. 101/6
35.3 to N Pradeep, bowled him, no doubt this time! Full pint, stumps shattered, Pradeep defending on leg as the ball hit middle - ten wickets for Anderson in the match and SL have been hammered into the Headingley turf, England win by an innings and 88 runs. Finish him, he did. 119/10
1305714.385610000
23.2 to AD Mathews, lovely line, draws the stroke, flicks the edge - job's a good 'un! Mathews offers only brief resistance, probably didn't need to play at that ball but he has ended up giving Bairstow get another catch behind the sticks. 93/4
802633.25343001
32.6 to HMRKB Herath, length ball, chipped to cover, Herath's gone! He understandably wasn't keen to get into line again, having just had treatment from the physio, reaching for a drive that wasn't quite there and the ball spooned straight to the fielder, finally giving Finn a wicket on his comeback. 111/7
34.2 to PVD Chameera, good bounce off a length, inside edge on to pad, taken at short leg! Easy as you like... Nick Compton bags his first catch in that position, a straightforward one and Finn has another, SL eight down and about to be counted out. 117/8
34.4 to HDRL Thirimanne, got him, steered to slip! Thirimanne gives up the fight, pushing half forwards, the latest edge to go to hand. Sri Lanka are falling over themselves to get out of Headingley and away from the scene of the crime. 118/9
10212.0040000
19.4 to LD Chandimal, bowled 'im, Chandi plays on! What a way to go, following on, cloudy skies above, fourth ball from the offspinner and he tries to cut, too close for the shot and it cannons into the stumps. 79/3
