The Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) has been postponed to August 2012 after facing a series of problems, including the unexpected withdrawal of Indian players from the tournament. In its place Sri Lanka Cricket, the league's owners, will conduct the regular inter-provincial Twenty20 tournament featuring five domestic sides without involving foreign players.
An official announcement is awaited, though two South African players linked with the tournament - Herschelle Gibbs and Davy Jacobs - told this website that they had been informed of the one-year deferral.
ESPNcricinfo understands that the decision to postpone the league - which was scheduled to start on July 19 - was taken on Thursday at a meeting between the SLC's new committee and Somerset Entertainment Ventures, the league's organisers. Given the BCCI's decision not to let Indian players participate and the time crunch, both parties felt it prudent to delay the launch. A four-week window in August 2012 was identified as the best time for the tournament; meanwhile the SLC will continue to lobby the BCCI for Indian participation.
The BCCI had withheld its permission on the grounds that Somerset, which owned the commercial rights, would be handling the contracts for international players and that could lead to complications should disputes arise over payments. In order to assuage the Indian board, SLC was willing to back the Indian players' contracts so that their financial interests were protected, but that was not enough to satisfy the BCCI. There have been suggestions that former IPL chairman Lalit Modi had a hand in the event, but SLC and Somerset have repeatedly denied the allegation, as has Modi.
The BCCI's decision meant the tournament did not have a broadcaster for the lucrative Indian market, a situation that made it much more difficult for the SLPL to find a secure financial footing. Adding to the sense of confusion was last week's dissolution of the SLC committee that had created the tournament, and its replacement by a new panel.
The Indian board's stand - which marked a U-turn of sorts after an initial green signal - was contrary to that of the boards of Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan, all of whom extended their support to the tournament. Tim May, the chief executive of Federation of International Cricketers' Associations (FICA), had also backed the event.

Posted by sweetspot on (July 9, 2011, 6:46 GMT)SL cricket board - you can do one better than BCCI if you get a totally new show going. Offer insane money, like $1bil for the winners, $1mil for each man of the match, not just cheerleaders, but body massages for the players on the sidelines from mermaids, some ogres from Lord of the Rings, some stuntmen from James Bond movies, and projection on IMAX screens worldwide. How about even cowboys shooting each other in the dugout? Now sell this idea to broadcasters and see if they bite. Stop cribbing about the BCCI because this is you vs. Indian TV audience, nothing else.

Is this the case of similarity between Mauritius investments in IPL?All these are needed to be answered before SLpL becomes a fullfledged most transparent and popular tournament in the world of cricket.

Posted by indiawillwin1234 on (July 8, 2011, 15:19 GMT)BCCI should protect its money cow IPL by all means. Poaching piece meal by creating minor leagues to get money from Indian broadcasters is not what BCCI will allow and all other boards should know that by now. Too much money is invested in IPL and too much at stake for Indian cricket system. Only way out is to join forces with IPL and not going against it. Each of Asian teams can request IPL to create two teams for their country, and everyone know it is not free (ready to invest $ 1/4 billion per team?).
Posted by Vilander on (July 8, 2011, 14:44 GMT)@ sachinkhairnar5983 , why should bcci take care of cricket in other countries, remember bcci and india are evil. sl, pak, and ban should take care of their cricket and finances on their own.
Posted by 1aludnar1 on (July 8, 2011, 14:32 GMT)I was waiting eagerly to see our Sana n Vaasi performing in a T20 series for a one last time, but thanks to BCCI all of us lost that chance.Thank you BCCI, I'm really unable to find words to appreciate your classy act. After all cricket is a gentlemen's game isn't it? Thank you for being a great and a supportive neighbor for us ! Anyway, I hope that one day the Chinese will come into the cricketing field and show the BCCI how Karma really works and believe me when that day comes nearly all of the Sri Lankans will be at you.

Aus,Pak,SA or WI have nothing to loose out of this tournaement so naturally they don't have any opposition.

Posted by MeSL on (July 8, 2011, 13:10 GMT)For me, this is great news. I really enjoyed watching our own players competing against each other. Our usual T20 League, Inter-Provincial T20 Tournament was a much better tournament with people from other countries having no interest about it. It had something uniquely Sri Lankan. I hope SLPL will be cancelled, forever. Our players will miss being groomed under some re-known high profile players. It doesn't matter, we have many uniquely talented senior players. Those seniors at their young times had no SLPL, yet they're having their own names marked on cricket history. Our players will take time to have the recognition from the international level, but hard work pays off. They'll earn the respect with time and be ready by the time they're to take place in the national team. Good Luck Sri Lanka! We're with you, will be watching you, whoever doesn't.
Posted by anoopshameed on (July 8, 2011, 12:48 GMT)@sachinkhairnar5983, Why would BCCI agree to such a notion when they have everything to loose? They have to share the revenue, most of which will be from India (as is evident from the scrapping of SLPL), the Indian player participation will go down and the chance for players to earn is less... Let's be frank here, BCCI only has to take care of cricket in India-it doesn't have to fend for the whole of the cricket world!

Posted by Ramesh_Joseph on (July 8, 2011, 9:02 GMT)I find it ridiculous to see people blaming BCCI for the failure of the tournament. After all players of all other countries are playing. If the only hope for the success of this tournament was Indian audience then they might as well ask the Indian board to play a few IPL matches in Sri Lanka. Its not BCCI's responsibility to take care of the finances of the other boards and find sponsors for their television rights. After all there are no Pakistani players and hardly any Engish players in the IPL...still the tournament goes ahead.
Posted byOnce again the BCCI is proving harmfull for cricket in the subcontinent, The Weaker board in the subcontinent is the main reason behind it... its because of their weakness the cricket is being damage with the minimum effort of BCCI also shame on Sirilankan board to cancell the series after several international players agree to play in the league... by doing this you are giving the message to the world that you can not arrange any cricketing event without the involvement of BCCI..... Shame on BCCI on insulting the international players..
Posted by cricket_for_all on (July 8, 2011, 8:50 GMT)I am Sri Lankan and I can tell why they postponed the match. The whole point of the SLPL to make money and take that to their own pocket (Even newly appointed SLC is the same). Since people started ask questions on corruption on SLC it is extremely hard to rob the money from SLPL this year. These corrupted people are not ready start this tournament without making money to them self. I think even without Indian players SLC could have carried out this year (I am sure that reasonable number Indian fans will watch SLPL even without Indian players). This SLPL is not for SL cricket this is for SLC committee members.
Posted by xampl2001 on (July 8, 2011, 8:32 GMT)BCCI,BCCI,BCCI everybody is saying that it is BCCI who are not allowing other cricketting nations to grow.It is true but they are richest cricket board, backed by more thanbillion people who watch cricket on tv which brings in lot of money to board. All other cricketting nations together cannot make one billion spectators so they have the power to dictate terms,Lucrative leauges cannot get huge amount of money from TV adds if Indian players will not participate so BCCI has the power to dictate terms.USA is today most strong nation in world. As such they are dictating terms to whole world & why not,if they can they will do it.All cricket boards want strong ties with BCCI,ACB is pushing BCCi to have more matches so that they have more revenue,as such i do not see a reason that BCCI should not dictate terms. If you have power use it,that is the rule of game
Posted by Sakthiivel on (July 8, 2011, 8:07 GMT)SLPL is a Failure of SLC not bec of BCCI. SLC is just incapable. They have no plan but eye only for money. Useless SLC cant even have a press conference for SLPL, no website then how can they run an event with world class players. I dont know why jealous people complaining about BCCI, They had done nothing wrong. When ECB didnt sent their players to IPL BCCI never complained or begged to ECB. Same here, why all go out and shout against BCCI for you incapacitates.
Posted by kv_aneesh on (July 8, 2011, 8:06 GMT)@johnathonjosephs Sachin was selected for the national team after just one first class season. His first class debut was on 11 December 1988 and he played his first Test match against Pakistan in Karachi in 1989 aged just 16. How dare you can say "Prime example is SRT. In his 20+ year international career, he has only played 80 first class matches (many of those before he even came to the international arena)"???? Anyway, happy to see another blind Sachin hater.
Posted by sachinkhairnar5983 on (July 8, 2011, 8:02 GMT)Instead of all this IPL, SLPL i will like to have APL (Asian Premier League) consiting 12 teams 6 from India, 3 from Pakistan, 2 from Sri Lanka and 1 from Bangladesh. Each team will consists 8 Asian Players and rest of the 3 spots for other from asian countries and think how successful it will be. Suppose in Indian Teams 5 will be Indian, 1 pak, 1 sl and 1 Ban and rest of three from other than asian as compare to Srilankan Teams 5 Sl, 1 Ind, 1 Pak, 1 Ban and rest of the three from other nations it will be more interesting and there will be not other tournaments also while this tornament is played. Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Banglore Royal challengers, Kolkatta Knightriders, Chennai Superkings, Rajasthan Royals, Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Colombo, Kandy and Dhaka will be the twelve teams. In this way minmum 16 Bd, 20 Sl, 24 Pak, 36 Ind players will be atleast there in Playing XI of all teams and rest of them also will get chance in the reamaing Squad.

Posted by Skylight28 on (July 8, 2011, 7:18 GMT)I wish to make 3 points: (1) This points to BCCI as the primary reason for the postponement of the league. This is ludicrous! Why would SLC (or any other board) unanimously plan an entire tournament that would hinge squarely on the participation of another country? If India was indeed the make-it-or-break-it factor, SLC should have talked to India during the planning stages and gotten India's commitment at that time rather than after announcing the tournament. This was a misstep by SLC, not backstabbing by BCCI as some readers are making this out to be! (2) The very committee that created the tournament does not exist anymore! Is it really that surprising that the tournament is postponed? The baby isn't even born yet, and the parents are dead already - and you blame a third party (BCCI)? (3) The article also says that the "time crunch" was to blame. I agree that this was a hastily planned event and hence a huge contributor to the postponement. Poor planning is to blame, not BCCI!
Posted by spiritwithin on (July 8, 2011, 7:13 GMT)@ johnathonjosephs..how come u r comparing IPL T20's viewerships with ranji trophy 4day games, domestic league of fast paced T20 r bound to be more popular compared to any 4day first class games league coz of its fast paced nature and instant results and IPL is more dedicated to indian viewers unlike SLPL who's forced to shut down just coz some B-grade indian players not allowed to participate, after india's 2007WC triumph the IPL with its city based structure league was anyhow wud have attracted the indian fans who associate themselves with those cities, and foreign players no doubt helped to glamourise the IPL but its indian international players who'r the main attraction and its them who'r mainly responsible to attract indian fans,i for myself supported mumbai just coz of sachin even though i m from delhi...again, its indian international players who r the main attraction

Posted by Harsh.Joshi on (July 8, 2011, 5:41 GMT)Seems like SLC interested in $$$$ than CRICKET. What is Indian players don't play? You've got other countries playing anyway. BCCI don't give a damn to Pak players' absence in IPL. SLC has lost its credibility. They should have gone forward with the plans. This shows they lack spine and have lost to BCCI. From hereon if SLC oppose BCCI, it will be very farcical for sure. To me SLC have lost their face and what Sanga said earlier in his lecture has indeed come true! SAD news for cricket lovers all over.
Posted by@ suheel. ACtually it should be. 'No league can run without indian audience ' ,, thats not true either. there is big bash and providents t20, shame on SLC at the end of it
Posted by Psychopathetikka on (July 8, 2011, 4:59 GMT)@Karan Kalwani - Mate there are four "Ranatunga" brothers in Sri Lanka. Arajuna - Captain 1996 (current MP), Dammika - Played two tests (current politician), Sanjeeva - Played a few tests/ODIs (currently a coach/referee) and Nishantha - Played a couple of ODIs and currently the Secretary of SLC. This is the Ranatunge that is speaking "for" SLPL, not Arjuna.
Posted by Horn.OK.Please on (July 8, 2011, 4:57 GMT)I find it hard to believe that the SLPL failed because of lack of Indian sponsors. In any case, only the third rung Indian players were supposed to be taking part. With the bigger Pakistani players taking part, I would have thought apart from SL, Pakistan was the only market this tournament could be marketed successfully in.
All said and done about BCCI bullying, any business -not just in cricket - that aims to thrive from a third party market cannot go any long way.
Posted byhow can someone comment about the audience , when the league hasnt even started. I agree with the bcci decision , if they have reasons to believe Lalit modi might be involved in Slpl , fair enough , they have all the reasons to refrain indian players participation
Posted by@nlamba...I totally agree with your comments, but SL board has asked the srilankan players come back during IPL for the tour of Englad which must have made the BCCI upset.SL cricket board has to understand their financial position must have acted wisely.
Posted byGuys guys guys.... stop all the banter and answer this question of mine. When IPL was on, the Sri Lankan great (i respect him as a player) Arjuna Ranatunga said that IPL is a 'monster' and it will 'destroy world cricket'. Okay fair point. But then the question is why was he so upbeat and vocal over his support for the SLPL? SLPL is nothing but just a clear cut carbon copy of the IPL (yet a failed one). As a cricket lover i like all types of cricket - test, one day and t20, be it domestic or international. But i just don't like the mud slinging debate that goes on around them, just spoils the fun. I'd say that one should just sit back and enjoy everything about cricket and forget the rest! Peace.
Posted by chandau on (July 8, 2011, 3:44 GMT)@ johnathonjosephs: IPL is not the only tournament that allows foreigners. In fact it is not the first T20 tournament. 20:20 started in England and as usual the counties were allowed 2 non english players. Then came ICL which was shut out by the IPL. Then few other countries also started their own like in Auz, NZ, WI, SA, SL as the T20 champions trophy came about. One cannot begrudge the success of IPL due to the masive population in excess ofa billion in India. However as beeb admitted by the committee the viership is diminishing with the expansion asthe length of the tournament is longer and there are more boring matches on show. It was grea in the first year within a cramped schedule - after all T20 is supposed to be quick and quicker the whole thing ends more people like it. There were more empty stadia this time due to many reasons. Dont worry u r not alone; the Super 15 also suffered lack of fans ans viewers this year. Too much of anything is not good for anyone ! buddhism says
Posted byGood for Cricket but not for players.....i meant Now too much T20 and ODI's and ICC must focus on test cricket which is declining day by day
Posted by Makkered on (July 8, 2011, 3:31 GMT)WTEH... i think you failed to understand a point, Event was cancelled because of no audience.. Do you expect audience in 2012 with the same scenario. Lolz please think about your judgment..
Posted by Last_Knight on (July 8, 2011, 3:20 GMT)In one angle agree with this decision, not to help SLCB. This T20s are killing cricket in various ways. Why can't we take a strong decision to focus and set up 50 over tournament (with 8 teams may be) rather than T20? If we cannot approach big foreign shots better to give some opportunities for players in Bangladesh, Ireland, Nederland, Kenya etc for their own improvement and focus on more local players. So in future we can build up a good team who can play 50 overs. These players can be focused to set in next WC in Australia. After all history will remember 50 over world cup heroes rather T20 winners in every 2 years time or Champions league or even IPL. After all T20 is money not cricket……
Posted by Ronsars on (July 8, 2011, 3:18 GMT)@WTEH:Never gonna happen...IPL next year will definetly see SL players...Your board has learnt enough lesson already messing up with BCCI & they would never do that again

Posted by yoogi on (July 8, 2011, 2:38 GMT)About ranji matches, Many of our readers know how well the ranji semifinal and finals were viewed withe enthusiasm on this website. Likewise, if the quality of cricket is good, then people will watch. The Ranji teams which qualify for elite competition should be limited to six / eight and each team should be allowed to pick two players from other states that doesnt qualify. That will improve quality of elite teams and help star players from other teams to get noticed on big stage. Then there will be huge intrest in ranji matches, even without top indian stars.

You cannot understand these emotions unless you are either an Indian OR you are a true cricket lover.
Posted by sreesam on (July 8, 2011, 1:09 GMT)johnathonjosephs... How can you compare IPL with Ranji matches? Obviously, you do not know anything about cricket!!And for your FYI, fans from every country wants to see their players perform, not cricketers from foreign nations.
Also there is a glaring hole in your 'analysis'....First, you say that IPL is successful due to foreign players and then you says Indian only like to watch their own players!! So, which is it? Make up your mind.
Posted by WTEH on (July 8, 2011, 0:43 GMT)Ok you Indians, so you don't want to watch SLPL. That's fine with us, but don't expect in future SL will send players to your competition. So here's the deal for next year, You run the IPL without us, will do SLPL without you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Venki_indian on (July 8, 2011, 0:28 GMT)@Jeetender completely agree with u mate
Posted byThat is a good step by BCCI... why should indian public pay for SLPL...
Posted by johnathonjosephs on (July 7, 2011, 23:05 GMT)@jeetender.... the only thing that separates IPL success from the other 2020 tournaments is that it hosts foreign players. Face it, before IPL there was Ranji Trophy and they tried televising that once, and it was such a failure they even stopped televising it. The hardline truth: Most Indians like watching Indian cricket only, and love seeing their team play. Most players from Team India don't even play domestic matches because of the lack of competetion. Prime example is SRT. In his 20+ year international career, he has only played 80 first class matches (many of those before he even came to the international arena). Most Indian players don't play unless there are international players- hence international players drop out then the Indian National Team will and views drop.
Posted by SensibleFan on (July 7, 2011, 22:27 GMT)Somewhere around the world, all the non-indian foreign players (especially the retired ones) who were going to make some money off SLPL will be cursing out BCCI for causing all this mess - this is what they call "throwing mud at someone's food"
Posted by TwitterJitter on (July 7, 2011, 22:17 GMT)Everybody take a chill pill and stop posting your over the top comments from all sides. I am sure both Indian and SL boards will work this out in the next year. There is no animosity between Indian and SL people and so people should stop with starting one now. It is not Indian interest to see our SL neighbors denied a chance at their domestic league. I think it all started when SL board threatened to pull back its players during IPL. It has been going down hill since. They need to go into a room and lock the door until they work this out.
Posted by rohanblue on (July 7, 2011, 22:14 GMT)one thing fr sure srilankan board dosnt want 2 lose indian viwers , because no body outside asia is going 2 watch slpl, hardly very few people frm aus, sa, windies and eng watch IPL, because cricket is nt a big hit there, so without indian viewers it cn be a disaster, i am indian bt i love srilankan team 2 , so i hope boards will resolve the issue as soon as posible...

Posted by Jeetender on (July 7, 2011, 21:34 GMT)More than srilankans, Pakistanis are upset,,, bad, very bad..
Posted by Jeetender on (July 7, 2011, 21:32 GMT)Srilanka want to create a competitions based on indian sponsors, indian audience, indian players and indian money... whom they are fooling... BCCI is not that dumb...
Posted by vverma on (July 7, 2011, 21:25 GMT)Now all other countries should block IPL, so that finally we can focus on the real cricket. These 20/20 tournaments do not make any sense. Important players keep getting hurt while playing for some lame city team and then cannot play test cricket for their country. When these players are on guaranteed contracts from their national boards how can they go get injured playing for somebody else.
Posted by Jeetender on (July 7, 2011, 21:21 GMT)IPL is played for Indian viewers.. IPL's success is not dependent on Srilankan and pakistanis viewers... It doesnt matter if other countries are not watching IPL..
Posted by Jeetender on (July 7, 2011, 21:17 GMT)Sri lankan board was trying to be too smart... they want to run their domestic cricket but want to earn from Indian public... Well done BCCI,, i support u... Plz make your domestic competion based on your market size,,,
Posted by ZshanKhan on (July 7, 2011, 21:08 GMT)I can understand the frustration shown here by the pakistani fans. They will now miss a chance to see the great Kamran Akmal in action.
Posted byPay the national cricketers the money they earn from TV rights & sponsorships without SLC officials rigging it.
It's the SL cricketers that bring the millions of dollars to SLC by sponsorships & TV rights.
Why not pay them good money so that they don't have to play IPL to look after their families.
IPL will be doomed without the SL cricketers.
Posted by Mehdi_shah on (July 7, 2011, 20:59 GMT)Tendulkar is better than bradman
Posted by Nampally on (July 7, 2011, 20:37 GMT)IPL itself takes about 2 months of the year and is tough to fit in with rather busy cricket fixtures all over the world. Adding another T-20 league in SL is bit of an over kill. It will be tough to attract good players. All Cricketers need some break during the year. It is too much to expect them to perform every day of the year round cricket. It is best that SL understands this and cancel further SLPL which is point less. I hope SL Board cancels it altogether.SL Board has already been slammed by Sangakara of corrupt practices. It is best they spend time cleaning up their house first. Only Pakistan, in addition to SL, will be keen because they do not participate in the IPL. The other countries with be lethargic. Is the purpose of SLPL to compete with IPL? SL cannot get the same fan following as in India which also has Bollywood to attract the crowd. Cancel SLPL because trying to creat another IPL is bad for the over worked Cricketers.
Posted by@wildbill85: read it properly.. if inian players r not playin.. no broadcaster will buy the tele right for India which makes them the most money. so u cant forget the indian players... if they do ther wont be any money in the event
Posted by Angad11 on (July 7, 2011, 20:25 GMT)Oh ya, this is the same BCCI that scheduled non stop matches with SL to the point that it was getting sick to see both these teams play. Why do you think so, only to help SL, which seems to be forever bankrupt.
Posted by nlambda on (July 7, 2011, 20:23 GMT)I am an Indian and feel a little bad about this. BCCI should let other boards flourish too. SL board has been "shown its place" but to what purpose? We should aim to make friends. (Except maybe with the Pakistanis, until they stop shielding the Masood Azhars of the world.) BCCI should have backed the Lankans especially knowing that they have financial hardships. That would have earned gratitude for BCCI.
Posted byYou can't just rub someone in the wrong way constantly and then hope that he won't remember it.
Everyone, including the great Ranatunga, was blaming BCCI and IPL for bringing the death of cricket in the world. When the IPL was on, efforts were made to cut short the participation of Sri lankan players, just with the intention to hurt the franchisees, IPL and BCCI. SLC was talking forgetting that BCCI regularly had helped Sri Lankan board to increase its revenues. Stung by the pin pricks from SLC, BCCI has chosen to respond, showing that if you need cooperation you too need to show that from your side.
Don't blame BCCI for all the ills of the world, for God's sake !
Posted by tradetekbiz on (July 7, 2011, 20:22 GMT)I'm saddened by some of the indian fans comments, so India doesn't like Pakistani players playing in IPL or India, and Indian fans don't like it when Pakistani players play in SLPL, etc. When did cricket become a personal vendetta? This sort of attitude is sadistic, and shows what a greek philosopher called it as: "strong do what they can and weak suffer what they must". Pakistani players who were gonna take part in SLPL should instead spend that time practicing while listening to "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba!
Posted byif indians are not playing.....then leave them ...Cricket will only be played if indian cricketers are participating ???? .. .. whats the gurantee they will play in 2012 ?
Posted by Dilmah82 on (July 7, 2011, 20:06 GMT)This is rediculous. What if the Indian players are unavailable next year? If the Indians aren't available use players from other teams that are during that period!
Posted by wildbill85 on (July 7, 2011, 19:33 GMT)OMG, forget the Indian players, I'd rather watch all the other foreign players play anyway. I like the IPL, but I'm sure the SLPL can make money even without the Indian players. Getting Gayle, Gibbs and Symonds in another T20 match would be awesome to watch.
Posted by Sakthiivel on (July 7, 2011, 19:31 GMT)What Nonsense is this? Why you postponed the SLPL. The SLC said that they will go without Indian Players even they are 2nd string why you do this now. What will happen if BCCI didnt sent their players next year. Next year FTP of august is filled up as South africa, england, Bangladesh all have matches. Even India will not send its main players bec they have only break in August after that they have NZ tour followed by T20 world cup and Champions league without any break. SLC should have go with SLPL. Now it shows that SLPL will happen only if BCCI gives go head signal.
Posted by piyo_thanda_jiyo_thanda on (July 7, 2011, 19:23 GMT)LOL I thought they had star power of Pak players. What happened nobody coming to watch star Pak players :-)
Posted by KTiwari on (July 7, 2011, 19:11 GMT)what will happen to eager Pakistanis...lol
Posted byI Hate IPL.......And SriLankan crickerters should do some thing for Back
Posted by Roar911 on (July 7, 2011, 18:58 GMT)what else can you expect from a clueless cricket board who goes bankrupt after a WC .... makes grounds in middle of nowhere while other stadiums such as Galle, SSC, Psara are completely neglected and remove seats from Dambulla in order to renovate RPS, cutting budget from an Aussie tour, and have absolutely no idea about what happened to WC ticket money... and when the q's been asked Aravinda and the clan vanishes while Sanga had to pay the price by resigning the captaincy and now also will have to answer to a moron called a 'sports minister' about why he wanted to 'uproot the corruption'... PATHETIC! ...and yet we complain about player performances!
Posted byI guess our Pakistani friends would complain that it was deferred on the insistence of BCCI as pakistani players were due to take part in it. I hope nothing that sort of has happened.
Posted byWow..... U did it! What a gr8 news 4 BCCI! So, BCCI, Its ur party tym!
Posted by Roar911 on (July 7, 2011, 18:46 GMT)Whoopie... hopefully SLC will find a 'SPINE' before "continue to lobby the BCCI for Indian participation" ...guess its all about broadcasting money n who gets the bigger piece of the pie.... sad sad day. no Gayle, no Hershy, no boom boom. :( ...Oh well, atleast tickets will be free this year!
Posted bynothing to say really. just disgusting as ever. SLC really S**ks
Posted byNo league can survive without Indian Players :)
Posted byThats another BCCI's diplomatic win over cricket world. but its sad part for the game.
Posted by Balumekka on (July 7, 2011, 18:29 GMT)Sincerely hope that this will be useful to re-organize the team!
Posted by StraightHit on (July 7, 2011, 18:25 GMT)BCCI effectively killed the tournament for this yr at least. I guess they want to protect spectator interest following too much of short format cricket this yr (WC, IPL-4). SL couldn't prevent being neither a financial powerhouse nor an influential ICC member like Aus (where Big Bash will take place soon) or Eng.
Posted by Makkered on (July 7, 2011, 18:23 GMT)This was expected... Who will run a show without audience...
Posted byThis what said bu Sanga earlier. And this what happening to our country....Sad to say but it is a true.
Posted by Umair-Yar-Khan on (July 7, 2011, 18:23 GMT)haha BCCI Wins Again ...
Posted byThis is WHAT happens if you go against BIG DADDY, BCCI.......
I am loving it...............
Where is RANATUNGA and CO who said IPL is a BED BUG of cricket?
C'mon accept that, you people can't beat INDIA at a money level and on the ground too
:-)
Posted byReally a shame. BCCI has become a full grown bully and even as an Indian I believe they need to be reined in for the good of the game. SL did a favor by allowing it's players involved in IPL to delay their departure to England, even if their were financial considerations. It was time for BCCI to return the favor but then they are not known to do what is logical really. All along we have blamed Australia for being the bully and now the BCCI is becoming a bigger monster. I am no BCCI hater, I acknowledge the good they have done for the Indian players and their finances but the game has to be bigger than any association.
Posted by ICL_FIGHTER on (July 7, 2011, 18:15 GMT)Wow.......Power of BCCI....keep it up.....cricket is proprietorship of BCCI no one can run it....ha ha ha........
Posted by the_blue_android on (July 7, 2011, 18:12 GMT)This is what happens when other boards try to cash in on with shady deals.
Posted bylol typical... y da heck did they even bother organizin a copy cat event of da ipl in da first place?? :/
Posted byShame !!! SLC lost to BCCI....not expected....
Posted by Malret on (July 7, 2011, 18:12 GMT)What a tragedy this is turning out to be.
Posted bylet me preempt some of the comments that for sure will come from the sri lankans, bangladeshis and pakistanis. As an Indian fan, this is BCCI's fault and we need to put the blame squarely on IPL. LOL:)
Posted bysad...common BCCI.. we cud get some more cricket to watch..we shud not be so stubborn...hmmm hope it gets sorted out n we cud see some more action...
Posted byahhh....nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Posted by uglyhunK on (July 7, 2011, 18:02 GMT)What nonsense ?? Just because BCCI denied permission for B grade players SL board could not find broadcasters for the tournament. This is height of bull from cricinfo
Posted byhaha hee... Against BCCI in ICC rotation policy.. paid the price..
Posted by darkmon.SL on (July 7, 2011, 17:55 GMT)Lol,everything our board do is like this, which is thanks to our "stupid" government who corrupt everything
Posted bySri Lanka Premier League postponed to 2012
Posted by KingofBlades on (July 7, 2011, 17:42 GMT)WHAAAAAAAAT?! BCCI sucks.
Posted byThis is called bullying.... BCCI must be curbed .... I hope cricket becomes famous in china then there will be balance in this world...
Posted by Kalan9211 on (July 7, 2011, 17:38 GMT)good decision, enough money earned by foreign players in IPL. Some players like D.Vetori also like to play for SLPL and quit captaincy for the sake of playing for SLPL and IPL. Playing for own country should be priority.
Posted byWhere is the dislike button :(
Posted by Deccancharggers1 on (July 7, 2011, 17:35 GMT)So sad to hear this.I wish it goes on next year, from a dissapointed indian fan.
