A solidly-built, aggressive batsman from the country town of Colac in south-west Victoria, Aaron Finch enjoyed a breakthrough season for the Bushrangers in 2009-10. The season featured his maiden first-class century, as he established a place in the middle order, and he starred in the state's triumphant Big Bash campaign. Only Kieron Pollard scored more runs than Finch's 189 at 47.25 in the Twenty20 tournament, and it was enough to earn him an IPL deal with the Rajasthan Royals, where he played one match. A collection of 416 Sheffield Shield runs at 37.81, as well as 347 runs in the FR Cup, confirmed Finch had become an important part of Victoria's plans. He made his first-class debut against the touring Indians in December 2007 but the match was washed out and he had to wait more than two years for his first innings. A 2007 stint at the Academy ended with a ban for not keeping his room tidy, but he showed he was maturing by losing weight during 2007-08, his first season with a full Victoria contract. Finch represented Australia at the Under-19 World Cup in 2006.
