Another stellar bowling performance underpinned a third consecutive victory for Nagenahira Nagas, as they breezed past Basnahira Cricket Dundee's 146 with six wickets and one over to spare. Shaminda Eranga's three for 20 from four overs and an economical spell from Sachith Pathirana ensured Cricket Dundee could not launch a sustained surge at any stage, and Mushfiqur Rahim's cool unbeaten 54 guided the Nagas unfussily to the modest target.

Once again Eranga troubled batsmen with seam, on a pitch that retained enough spice to accommodate movement in both directions despite one match already having been played on it earlier in the evening. An away-swinger caught the outside of Dhanushka Gunathilleke's bat, his drive going to mid off, and Cameron Borgas fell in similar fashion to Eranga much later in the innings. Sachithra Serasinghe's bottom edge completed Eranga's haul, but the dot balls amid the breakthroughs were almost as crucial to his side's cause.

Dilshan was forced into reticence once again through early wickets and tight bowling, and his 35 took 31 deliveries. Dimuth Karunaratne and Borgas also got starts, but neither were able to spur the run rate to any great extent as the Nagas continued to get regular breakthroughs.

Imran Nazir retured hurt early for the Nagas, after he pulled a muscled playing a pull stroke, but Angelo Mathews and Mushfiqur combined to provide substance to the chase, with a measured third-wicket stand of 57. Both batsmen collected the runs on offer from the spinners, and scored heavily square of the wicket off the seam bowlers, while striking the odd boundary to keep up with the required rate.

Mathews' demise for 30 did not deter Mushfiqur, who found another solid partner in Angelo Perera, and the pair set about closing the game out quickly with a spate of boundaries. A six to Mushfiqur, off the last ball of the penultimate over, took him past fifty and secured the tournament top-spot for the Nagas, who appear to be the form side of the early stages.

I am big fan of Bangladesh cricket (Srilankan). No offence guys I see lot of comments to replace Nasir hossain with Travis Birt, are you guys joking? I am a fan of Nasir hossain but still have you actually seen him playing. It should be on youtube (Big Bash), man he is equal or better than Chris Gayle.

Posted by   on (August 19, 2012, 11:27 GMT)

@KEVINS...lool This Bangladesh team still lose to Ireland? Funny the last 4 times this Bangladesh team played Ireland, Bangladesh won all 4 of them so that argument is clearly invalid. Secondly, instead of worrying about our team worry about your team instead you have clearly declined in Cricket plus knocked out by us not only in the Asia Cup but also the UNDER-19 WORLD CUP haha...good luck in PLATE Championship maybe you can have dinner on that plate :)

Well done Mushy, but you shud not get carried away. You shud look to play consistently. For those asking why Eranga was man of the match, it is SLPL and it aims to encourage the youngsters from Sri Lanka. BPL had such opportunities, too, but it didn't take those chances. It rather focused on more foreign glamour and gave them more awards. Believe me, this is the right way to improve in international cricket.

BANGLADESHISH r coming very fast... Hope one day they will climb on top... SAKIB, TAMIM, MUSHFIQ, NASIR- and lot of young star r doing well and showing their cool temparment as well... That day is not so far...

Congratulation Musfiq ! We are happy for your performance . I hope, the performances of you, Tamim & Nasir will fill up the want of injured Shakib Al Hasan in the SLPL and will show the world that Bangladesh cricket is improving day by day . Have a nice tournament ............

Cool batting & cool finishing. I think recently Mushfiqur showing his temperament in both one day & t-20 matches which is a very good sign for Bangladesh. Many people may forget the fact that Mushfiqur debut against England in Lords as a test batsman.

Posted by i_amVIVA on (August 18, 2012, 10:22 GMT)

well done LITTLE BANGLA MASTER. keep going with your fine touch. and take it to T20 world cup next.

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 9:24 GMT)

The no 3 batsman for Naga is of no use.He cant score.Nasir Hossain should get chance instead of that guy.we need to realise that nowadays Aussies are not that good,so second class players of them wont be better than first class players of Bangladesh,India,Zimbabwe.

Mr. KEVINSL, Can I know Where are you from?? Can You tell me the time when BD lost to Ireland. To Best of my knowledge , Bangladesh Beat Ireland 3-0, a straight BanglaWash. Are you in Dream? Come on man, wake up and be a good man.

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 8:16 GMT)

Great to see our local hero from Bogra, is firing . Hope Mushfiq will be carring on this good form till the T20 world cup. EID MUBARAK , MUSHI.

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 8:07 GMT)

@ KEVINSL: Bengal Tigers don't care about your lame & false comment! Bangladeshi Cricketers always give answer in the field! Your days are gone, now the new days are for Bangladesh Cricket! Soon you will see that! Look, Royal Bengal Tigers has started roaring strong everywhere!!!

Posted by lankavigi on (August 18, 2012, 7:49 GMT)

The Nagas are too strong for all the others!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 7:46 GMT)

Bengal Tigers are roaring everywhere ( in both bouncy & spin pitches), in Bangladesh (Asia cup, BPL), in India (IPL), in Ireland (t20 series), in Australia (under19 world cup), in Sr Lanka (SLPL). And the cats are doing mew mew, gone on hiding under their beds! We cant find those fans nowadays who hates BD cricket and want them out of the test cricket. The whole world will see how the BD Tigers will come as strong in the next T-20 world cup and in the main world cup!

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 6:37 GMT)

It is good that SLPL officials are considering Pak, Bang players... are they are south asian countries..... actually it is the opposit of IPL (Indunisian Premier League)

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 5:49 GMT)

all bangladeshi tigers are like boss.........congratulation mushi <3

Shaminda Eranga should be in the wt20 squad along with the youngster Akila Dhananjaya.My squad for wt20: Mahela Jayawardena,T,M.Dilshan,Upul Tharanga,Dinesh Chandimal,Kumar Sangakkara,Lahiru Thirimanne,Angelo Mathews,Jeewan Mendis,Thisara Perera,Nuwan Kulasekara,Shaminda Eranga,Rangana Herath,Lasith Malinga,Ajantha Mendis,Akila Dhananjaya.

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 5:43 GMT)

well done Mushfiq !!! I believe u r a proper test cricketer. But it's a shame that we hardly play test cricket. can't show the world what's our ability. Playing test match after every 8 or 9 month is very difficult to adjust. anyways keep playing well.

Posted by M_Rakibul_Islam on (August 18, 2012, 5:30 GMT)

I'm not sure whether Mushfiq is playing well or the league is low profile one. Mushfiq hadn't a great per4mance in BPL & T20I for BD except Europe tour. His current form will boost BD.

well done mushfiqur and eranga secured the win..im supporting the nagas in this tournament!!

well played little Mush..... he is a very good batsman ...In the mean time , he has improved as a wicket keeper as well!!

Posted by amirjoni on (August 18, 2012, 4:47 GMT)

well done mushfiqur rahim the bangladesh skipper..ellias sunny @ nasir hossain also helpful for the team..i want to them in next match..

Posted by KEVINSL on (August 18, 2012, 4:11 GMT)

just one inning didnt show everything. this is bangladeshi fans week point. they think they can win the world with shakib and mushi due to few innings. but international cricket needs consistency. this bangladesh team still loose to Ireland and associate teams. so reality is they have to be improved. its better rather than stuck with some kind of dreams

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 4:06 GMT)

one of my favourite player Imran Nazir retired hurt in this match , i really missed his sixes in this match... i hope he will play next match after recovering from injury.

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 2:55 GMT)

Well done to Nagas, they are playing like a team under Mathews. Rahim is a very solid player at 4, should have got the mom today under seaming conditions. Mathews at 5 is the ideal position for him to come in late and finish the innings. The team has a good balance. What happened to Mitchell Marsh?

Posted by ostad on (August 18, 2012, 2:49 GMT)

Mushfiq is cool and consistent...he is the player of the match.

Posted by   on (August 18, 2012, 2:10 GMT)

I don't understand why some of us BD fans expecting or wanting or hoping our players should go onto IPL. It's nothing but a domestic tournament with money. Guys remember, they didn't want us. Players like Mortaza, Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiq or Nasirs' are world class. Where ever they play or whoever they play for, will make the game a world class game. It's the players that make the game more enjoyable, not the tournaments. I am a proud BD fans and I hope our boys make us proud.

Good show Mushi...keep it up till T20 world cup

Posted by SLfan on (August 18, 2012, 0:44 GMT)

@ sanga_cricket_fan - Totally agree with you mate. You have named the perfect SL team for upcoming world T20. Eranga should play ahead of Kula and only vulnerable player in this team for me is Chandimal, because he does n't deliver as much as we expect from him. So I think Thirimanne should play at no.3 position because he can anchor the inning so well.

Posted by Htc-Android on (August 17, 2012, 23:19 GMT)

eranga is in fine form and he should get a place in the world T20 squad. i will be better if sri lanka plays eranga ahead of kula. My team. 1. Dilshan 2.Mahela 3.chandimal 4.thirimanne 5. sanga 6.mathews 7.perera 8.J.mendis. 9.hereth( or spinner who performed well in slpl) 10. Eranga 11. Malinga.

well done Deshi bro Very proud to See the innings.....

Love you Sri Lanka! -From Bangladesh.

If the wicket is a wicket for spinners... Bring in Elias Sunny!

Posted by FOTO on (August 17, 2012, 22:25 GMT)

the commentators said to take out the wicket keeper and bring in a better batseman after their first match... Now look at him they can't possibly take him out now since he was the saviour of Nagenahira

congrats to capn mushy from a BD fan

Nasir in for T. Birt and the Nagas have a solid team. Nasir can adjust to situations and can bowl as well.

One of the good thing about SLPL is that we are seeing domestic players perform along with internationals, quite unlike IPL.

Very proud to See the innings from our Dashing cool Captain Mushi, go ahead Tigers , we all Bangladeshi are behind you guys

Eranga is just in terrific form now.. SLPL is bringing on better form from Dilshan.. Good thing for SL team..

Posted by   on (August 17, 2012, 19:15 GMT)

Splendid innings from Rahim but very surprised he didn't get Man of the Match because not only his batting was tremendous but his Wicket-keeping skills was of top standard but considering its the SLPL, its understandable. That new stadium of Sri Lanka is pretty unique but the surprising thing was that its offers a lot of bounce and a bit quicker compared to other Asian pitches. The way Rahim went about his innings was good because Nagas was in a tough position and the way he handled it was impressive because for a very short guy playing in an unfamiliar pitch with lots of bounce and still can score an unbeaten 50 is impressive. I just realised that this is the Stadium in which Bangladesh will be playing their group games so New Zealand now will be very tough to beat considering it doesn't spin as much and produces a lot of bounce so Bangladesh need to be on their guard. Its also good that Rahim especially a Captain can analyse these sort of pitches for Bangladesh management n players.
