Uthura Rudras v Wayamba United

Wayamba United won by 9 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)

Farhat to take strike, Mahela Udawatte at the non-striker end

3.55 pm Sunny at Colombo, which is different from what we had for some part of yesterday, wet weather that is.

Jayawardene: Seems to be slow pitch, in the evening it comes on more than earlier.

Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Abdul Razzaq and Tamim Iqbal will make it to the Wayamba side as foreign players.

Mubarak: We have our legend Murali to look out for, but apart from that we have Brendan Taylor and Kyle Mills as well.

Imran Farhat and Kevon Cooper are the other two foreign players.

Commentator Russell Arnold wishes Mubarak luck for the game and to keep Murali quiet!

Toss news Wayamba has won the toss and decided to field first.

Hello and welcome to the third game in this first edition of the Sri Lanka Premier League...Uthura Rudras take on Wayamba United in this fixture. I am Suneer Chowdhary and will cover this game and the next one between Uva Next and Basnahira Cricket Dundee.

Yesterday, which was also the first day of the SLPL 2012, Nagenhira won a rain-hit match against Ruhuna through the Duckworth-Lewis method, while Basnahira strolled to 34-run victory over Kandurata.

Tillakaratne Dilshan's all-round performance for Basnahira was the highlight of the day.

3.40 pm Jehan Mubarak leads Uthura Rudras while Wayamba will be captained by Mahela Jayawardene.

Good start for Uthura Rudras. Farhat already looks like he was waiting for this chance. Razzaq to bowl the second

1.1

Abdul Razzaq to Udawatte, no run, outside the off stump, length ball, tries to poke at it, but misses and it goes through to the wicket-keeper.

1.2

Abdul Razzaq to Udawatte, 1 run, on the leg-stump, tucked away to square-leg for a single

1.3

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, SIX, down the pitch and pulled away, it is gone for four, is it? No, it has been declared a six, what a stroke, he sure seems to be coming off some good form!

1.4

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, 1 run, short of length and punched to the covers for a single

1.5

Abdul Razzaq to Udawatte, 1 run, tries to cramp up the batsman by bowling on the leg stump, is able to nurdle it away for a single

1.6

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, no run, short ball, and slower too, almost Shaun Pollockish, plays a pull at it and the ball does not arrive, and then he attempts another stroke, hits some place and goes through to the keeper

End of over 2 (9 runs) Uthura Rudras 20/0
Imran Farhat    16* (8b 2x6)      Abdul Razzaq    1-0-9-0
ML Udawatte    2* (4b)      DSNFG Jayasuriya    1-0-10-0

Change in bowling, it is Isuru Udana to bowl

2.1

Udana to Udawatte, 2 runs, outside the off stump, pitched up and wide, goes after it, slashes it over point through to the third-man boundary where the diving fielder does well to restrict it to two

2.2

Udana to Udawatte, no run, slower one and as early as his second ball! well-defended by the batsman back to the bowler

2.3

Udana to Udawatte, FOUR, length ball, it was not a slower one but sat up to be hit, punched through the covers with the fielders giving up chase even before it began!

2.4

Udana to Udawatte, 1 run, length ball, opens the face of the bat and it rolls over to the third-man region for a single

2.5

Udana to Imran Farhat, 1 run, slower one again from Udana, opens the face of the bat through to short third-man for a single

2.6

Udana to Udawatte, no run, another slower one, which is his stock ball, tries to run it down to third-man, misses the outside edge to end the over on a better note.

End of over 3 (8 runs) Uthura Rudras 28/0
ML Udawatte    9* (9b 1x4)      I Udana    1-0-8-0
Imran Farhat    17* (9b 2x6)      Abdul Razzaq    1-0-9-0

3.1

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, no run, outside the off stump and Farhat goes for another lavish cut, his movement on the crease does not not help him and he misses

3.2

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, no run, a very, very slow ball, would have matched Harbhajan Singh's quicker ones, beaten outside the off stump

3.3

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, no run, length ball, outside the off stump, goes for the cut by giving himself some room but the strongly cut shot goes straight to the cover fielder

3.4

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, FOUR, short ball and that has been upper cut over the short third-man for a four, that has been done well, not only executed well, but well-thought of given that there was no third-man in place

3.5

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, FOUR, and now it has been cut away to the fence, short and on the off stump, his tendency to give himself room helps him get it over the covers

3.6

Abdul Razzaq to Imran Farhat, no run, and now he tries to go the other way, room by moving towards the off stump, and a scoop attempted over fine-leg, misses and the umpire does not give it a wide

End of over 4 (8 runs) Uthura Rudras 36/0
Imran Farhat    25* (15b 2x4 2x6)      Abdul Razzaq    2-0-17-0

K Weeraratne comes on to bowl now.

4.1

Weeraratne to Udawatte, FOUR, full-toss, a hit-me, and that is what happens, the batsman has smacked it over mid-off for a boundary

4.2

Weeraratne to Udawatte, no run, better delivery this time, the keeper was up to the stumps too, showed hint of movement into the batsman, and hurries the batsman into the stroke

4.3

Weeraratne to Udawatte, 1 leg bye, on his pads, wants to flick it away but misses, hits his pads and they are off for a single

4.4

Weeraratne to Imran Farhat, SIX, the man is on fire and he is certainly doing everything to make it count, room outside the off stump and he has slammed it over the covers. So much power, it goes for a six!

4.5

Weeraratne to Imran Farhat, FOUR, round the stumps but makes no difference to Farhat, he has hit it inside out over the extra-cover for another four!

4.6

Weeraratne to Imran Farhat, SIX, six, another six! Farhat's unleashing those maximums at will and here is another one, round the stumps, pitched up this time but makes not too much difference to the batsman who lofts it over the extra-cover

End of over 5 (21 runs) Uthura Rudras 57/0
Imran Farhat    41* (18b 3x4 4x6)      K Weeraratne    1-0-20-0

Frenetic start for the Uthura Rudras. What can Wayamba do? For now, it is Udana to continue.

5.1

Udana to Udawatte, no run, outside the off stump, pitched right up, wanted to steer it away but gets bit of an edge, bounces before going through to the keeper

5.2

Udana to Udawatte, 1 run, on the pads, played to backward square-leg for a single

5.3

Udana to Imran Farhat, SIX, slower one again and what do you do about this guy, he has smacked it out of his sight, over where the long-off fielder would have been and it goes for another six!

5.4

Udana to Imran Farhat, FOUR, one of the very few false strokes, pitched up, outside the off, goes for a shot and the outside edge carries it through the vacant third-man region for a four and to his half-century!

5.5

Udana to Imran Farhat, no run, swings at it again, he is doing that every ball now but for a change, he misses it, through to the keeper

5.6

Udana to Imran Farhat, OUT, gone, a catch as good as the innings as it ends! It was outside the off stump, wanted to slice it over point, gets bit of an edge, flies to backward point and the fielder runs to his left before diving to take it inches above the ground

Weeraratne to Udawatte, no run, round the stumps, pitched up to the bat and driven to extra-cover, Kamran Akmal chirps away in the background

6.4

Weeraratne to Udawatte, 1 run, yorker-length ball, into the batsman's pads, dug out well to long-on for a single

6.5

Weeraratne to Taylor, no run, full-toss, on the off stump, should have been collared, instead he gently pats it back, misfielded by the bowler but the mid-off tidies it

6.6

Weeraratne to Taylor, FOUR, but this time he does not miss the over-pitched delivery, full flow of the bat and it goes over mid-off for a four

Abdul Razzaq to Gunaratne, 1 leg bye, slower one on the pads, wants to slog it, hits the pads and they go for a quick single, the ball's in Razzaq's range, rushes and throws it at the non-striker's end, misses

19.2

Abdul Razzaq to Maharoof, SIX, short, sat up to be hit and that is exactly what the batsman does, smokes it over mid-wicket for a six!

19.3

Abdul Razzaq to Maharoof, OUT, another one attempted, it was fuller this time and he tries to go over long-on but the lack of pace hurts the timing behind the stroke and it is holed out to the long-on fielder

MF Maharoof c Umar Akmal b Abdul Razzaq 28 (16b 0x4 3x6) SR: 175.00

End of an excellent cameo there, Kevin Cooper comes in.

19.4

Abdul Razzaq to Gunaratne, 2 runs, short of length and cracked to long-off, Cooper is quickly off the blocks from the non-striker's end and they come back for the second

19.5

Abdul Razzaq to Gunaratne, 2 runs, another slower one, sliced it away over the off side, they are easily able to come back for the second run again

19.6

Abdul Razzaq to Gunaratne, (no ball) 1 run, OUT, full-toss and that has been called a no-ball for over-stepping, which means that the last ball of the innings will be a free-hit. In other news, the batsman tries to go back for the second run, and is run-out at the non-striker's end...it was a huge no-ball by the way!

LJP Gunaratne run out 5 (4b 0x4 0x6) SR: 125.00

Free-hit comes up.

19.6

Abdul Razzaq to Cooper, 1 run, goes for a slog, inside edge to the short fine-leg for a single, end of the innings on 179, which means that Wayamba need to score at nine an over.

Farhat laid the foundation with a sizzling half-century, Kapugedera added a well-made 38 in the middle of the innings, while Maharoof added the icing on the cake. 180 will not be an easy target to chase, especially on a pitch that is offering some turn. There is a Muthiah Muralitharan waiting to get that ball to rip and spin. Back in 10.

End of over 20 (14 runs) Uthura Rudras 179/7
KK Cooper    1* (1b)      Abdul Razzaq    4-0-37-1
KD Mills    0* (0b)      I Udana    4-0-38-2
