Injuries to several players have forced the Bangladesh selectors to make four changes to the ODI squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. Mohammad Ashraful, Nazmul Hossain, Abul Hasan and Mosharraf Hossain have been drafted in to replace the injured trio of Mashrafe Mortaza, Shafiul Islam and Naeem Islam, while Elias Sunny has been dropped.

Mortaza and Naeem had not recovered sufficiently from injuries suffered during the Bangladesh Premier League, while Shafiul suffered a side-strain during the pre-tour camp earlier this month. Mortaza took a blow to his heel in the BPL final, sustaining a contusion injury that hampers his landing during delivery stride. Naeem was injured in the second week of February after he stepped on a ball during fielding, but he aggravated the injury by playing a few matches immediately afterwards, according to the Chittagong Kings physio. Shafiul picked up his injury while playing a league match in his hometown in Bogra.

Abul and Nazmul were straight swaps for Mortaza and Shafiul. Nazmul has been in and out of the side for the last two years, having last played ODI cricket in the 2012 Asia Cup. He is the more senior of the two returning players; Abul has played just two ODIs. Rubel Hossain is the other pace bowling option in the squad.

Mosharraf, a left-arm spinner, has been recalled after five years. His domestic form was impressive in the last two seasons, and he was the Player of the Match in the BPL final. Bangladesh no longer has List-A cricket, so his last performance in one-day format was good too. Mosharraf took 28 wickets for Victoria Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier League and was the second highest wicket-taker behind Shakib Al Hasan, who is still recuperating from an operation on his leg to reduce the strain on his shin.

Bangladesh play the first two ODIs in Hambantota on March 23 and 25 before playing the final game of the series in Pallekele on March 28.

ODI squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Jaharul Islam, Mohammad Ashraful, Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah, Nasir Hossain, Sohag Gazi, Abdur Razzak, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Mosharraf Hossain, Abul Hasan, Ziaur Rahman.

CAN YOU PLZ TELL ME how many test cap you find ???

You should ask ICC if a first class tournament is world class or no, by the way BD has two FC leagues.

Please stop talking about Taskin, taskin, taskin. He has been impressive but that does not mean he is ready. Give the guy time and coaching. Our pace bowling is Alright for ODI's, GOOD ENOUGH for T20 but hopeless in tests. Shahadat Hossain was impressive at the beginning (he took 6/27 v SA in BANGLADESH) but see what is happening now to him. We dont want that to happen to Taskin!

my odi XI: tamim, anamul, ashraful, nasir, mushfiqur, riyad, ziaur, razzak, gazi, rubel hossain, nazmul

i really think ferad reza should be given a chance becuase he's a decent opening bowler who can swing the bowl, plus can bat a bit as well. really need shafiul to come back soon though.

Posted by Babu01730 on (March 14, 2013, 19:15 GMT)

Nafees and Samsur Should be in the squad instead of Jahrul and Ziaur.

MY Best 11 for BD ODI squad: Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Mohammad Ashraful, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Nasir Hossain, Ziaur Rahman, Sohag Gazi, Abdur Razzak, Rubel Hossain, Mosharraf Hossain

The only thing Sri Lanka fans have been dreaming that they will thrash Bangladesh all by an innings in 3 days but didn't happen. Excuse - flat pitch! :)

Posted by Lakpj on (March 14, 2013, 16:25 GMT)

@ TheRisingTeam Ok good luck and keep dreaming mate, but make sure you wake up on 29th of march just to realize that you have been part of a sweet dream

Posted by Farhana.farha on (March 14, 2013, 15:57 GMT)

i don't want to see ash98 at no.3 in odi x1, i want to see ash98 in test at no.3, in odi&t20 at no.2/4&2

Posted by TheRisingTeam on (March 14, 2013, 15:51 GMT)

Actually Taskin took the wicket of Dilshan TWICE in the short matches he has played but it doesn't matter who is missing from our line-up, we still going to win the ODI series 3-0 and show who are the new minnows.

Posted by first_slip on (March 14, 2013, 13:22 GMT)

@Third_Gear, is bangladesh FC Tournament is International Standard? i didnt know that, if that is the case how bangladesh won only 3 test matches out of 75 and those 3 matches are also against Zimbabwe and depleted WI? about BPL, i did not see nay Test player playing in BPL apart from Dilashan and Katich (correct me if i am wrong) and i have not seen any class from The guy you are talking about, and i dont think anyone else (apart from you) saw the class in him. if people (Bangladesh selectors) saw class from him why he is not in Bangla test team? is it because Bangladesh team have too many class fast bowlers? like to know your thoughts. mate

Posted by Htc-Android on (March 14, 2013, 13:17 GMT)

Whats the big hype about Taskin Ahmed? Took the wicket of dilshan in a T20. Its easy to take wickets in t20s. Because the batsman is always looking for shots. But, can he do it in ODI and Tests? Let him play internationals first before start making predictions. These type of hypes and expectations from the fans will put pressure on the player.

Posted by SarfBD on (March 14, 2013, 13:14 GMT)

Taskin is good. But he has a long way to go before getting selected in national team. He needs at least two decent seasons in domestic circuit. It's too early to get a call. Also he is very young and may be his body is not ready to take the load of int'l cricket. We are good at destroying young pace bowling talents by over using at early age. Remember the case of Mashrafe or Talha Jubair? Shamsur can wait as others are doing quite well. Specially Ashraful's ton made it difficult for him...

Posted by Third_Gear on (March 14, 2013, 12:42 GMT)

first_slip@ But he played in first class cricket also he was a performer in BPL 2013 where he bowled mosltly against international players, from that its easy to understand his class if someone has eyes.

Posted by first_slip on (March 14, 2013, 11:50 GMT)

@Third_Gear, world class? give me a break mate, he is even yet to play international match, how you say he is world class? nd dont get too exited, gall pitch was dead track,

Posted by Third_Gear on (March 14, 2013, 11:24 GMT)

Tal_Botvinnik@ BD fanz are excited about Taskin Ahmed bcoz his bowling is world class and at the moment they need a useful genuine fast bowler alongwith all the spinners,if you want to win the matches in all conditions you can not always depend only on spinners sometimes you need help from pacers as Mashrafi was doing for BD,hardluck Mash is not there but Taskin is a huge prospect for tigers indeed.

Posted by Tal_Botvinnik on (March 14, 2013, 10:56 GMT)

Taskin Ahmed was a medium pace trundler(132-100 kph) ( the only highlight was him bowling dilshan when he misjudged the line of the ball). Nuwan Kula can bowl faster than him and swing the ball as well.I don't know why the BD fans are exited about him when they got a whole lot of decent slow left armers coming through.

Posted by Warm_Coffee on (March 14, 2013, 10:52 GMT)

Can Sri Lanka thrash us in one-days by 5 or more wickets with 5 or more overs to spare or win by 50+ runs like they supposed to? I don't think so so no excuses again please.

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 9:19 GMT)

I'm sorry to say this people are getting selected performance based on BPL in TEST MATCHES, which ain't the wise thing to do. Feel really sorry for Marshall Ayub for not getting into the test team!!

Posted by Bullet_Proof on (March 14, 2013, 8:05 GMT)

Lakpj@ why you see only Asia Cup, Just look back, when BD played Kitply Tri-Nation Cup with IND-SL in Dhaka. Srilanka was lucky to reach final but BD performance was eye catching in that whole tournament. This BD team is stronger than SL in ODI without any doubt.

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 8:04 GMT)

Feel sorry for Shamsur Rahman and Marshal Ayub. Now they really don't have any idea about what more criteria has to be fulfilled to be selected in Bangladesh team. Yes, we have stronger batting lineup than ever, but not enough to overlook the outstanding and consistent performance of those to unlucky guys.

We are not Australia, we don't have a Michael Clarke, and we can't afford to loose one or two Brad Hodges.

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 7:52 GMT)

Shamsur Rahman should have been picked for the ODIs. I don't know, why on earth Zia is in the squad? Zia has been a burden for Duranto Rajshahi in this year's BPL. Moreover, we have enough all-rounders in the team. Mahmudullah, Nasir, Ashraful, Mominul; all of them can bowl and bat. Gazi and Abul are also all-rounders in a way. Before that Marshal Ayub couldn't get a place in the test team. If it continuous, better performers will be demoralized.

Posted by Lakpj on (March 14, 2013, 7:26 GMT)

@Bullet_Proof do u really think that a one-off victory in the Asia cup would mean that Bangladesh can consistently beat India and SL in any ODI under any condition. SL may have issues to be sorted out in Tests, but they are a good team in limited over formats. They could have had series victories in SA and Aus if not some unfortunate circumstances and poor decisions. Bangladesh have improved but they have a longway to go. Batting looks good but very thin in bowling.

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 6:30 GMT)

I think Elias Sunny can do good in home condition..... specially in mirpur......record say that.......... but he is not good in condition outside of bangladesh.....

Posted by Bullet_Proof on (March 14, 2013, 6:27 GMT)

Injury of BD main players has given a chance to SL,otherwise BD could have won it by 3-0.

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 6:24 GMT)

I see two future player of Bangladesh..They are Taskin and Shamsur. They deserve a chance in the national team. But unfortunately both of them are missing here!! I don't know why Zia is picked instead of Shamsur!

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 6:19 GMT)

I hardly think Ashraful will be consistent in ODI's. Let him play the test matches only.

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 4:02 GMT)

Nazmul Hossian is good choice for bangladesh in ODI, Tamim should Play place of Anamul haque in the test

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 2:11 GMT)

Shamsur Rahman should of been in the team. As he is really good form now.

Posted by   on (March 14, 2013, 1:41 GMT)

why not shamshur rahman and marshal ayub

Posted by Quddus-Mamu on (March 14, 2013, 1:12 GMT)

I think, Shamsur Rahman deserves a place in ODI and T20 squad. Anamul is not doing well in overseas matches, so it's time to change him and give a chance to Shamsur Rahman. I will advise to continue with Mominul. My Squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Tamim Iqbal,, Shamsur Rahman, Mohammad Ashraful, Mahmudullah, Nasir Hossain,Mominul Haque, Sohag Gazi, Abdur Razzak, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain.

BD ODI TEAM SHOULD BE Tamim Anamul Ashraful Shakib Nasir Mushfiq Zia Mashraffe Sohag Raazak/or a allrounder Taskin

Posted by 1rifcricket on (March 14, 2013, 0:04 GMT)

This how it should be 4 BD ODI TEAM Tamim Anamul Ashraful Shakib Nasir Mushfiq Zia Mashraffe Sohag Raazak/or a allrounder Taskin

Posted by Ain_EL_Sabet on (March 13, 2013, 23:02 GMT)

Come on, Shamsur Rahman should be in the team for short format surely. Shamsur should be at number-2 and anamul should be at number-3 .

Posted by sabbor on (March 13, 2013, 21:56 GMT)

ppl need to understand that BPL is a totally different kind of format tournaments when it comes to play Test match and ODI match, BPL does not explores a player characters well enough to join longer format of the game.

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (March 13, 2013, 21:19 GMT)

Agree with people who are asking for Samsur Rahman and Marshal Ayub. Marshal has been performing for year but still don't get chance :/

Posted by Legend_of_All_Times on (March 13, 2013, 21:07 GMT)

No doubt, Selectors have made a severe mistake. Limited over matches will be played in Hambantota and Pallakele, pitches of which grounds are vastly known as Pace-Bowling favored wickets. So, Its won't be wise decision to place 3/2 specialist spinners with 1/2 specialist Pacer in the final XI squad in the field. Rather, it should be 2 specialist Spinners, 1 specialist Pacer and 1 Medium Pacer come Batting All-rounder. In current time Bangladesh has 2 dependable Medium Pacers come batting All-rounders for limited over matches, Ziaur Rahman and Farhad Reza. Specially, Experienced Farhad Reza showed an Impressive Bowling Ability in only played match of 2012 Zimbabwe T20 Series, with benignant swings and startled movements. Both of Zia and Reza should be in the Squad. Mahmudullah/Mominul may easily share 10 over bowling quota. My preferred best XI will be: 1. Tamim 2. Anamul 3. Ashraful 4. Mominul 5. Mahmudullah 6. Mushfiqur 7. Zia/Reza 8. Nasir 9. Gazi 10. Abdur Razzak 11. Rubel/Nazmul

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 20:16 GMT)

Few new players should have given chance like Samsur Rahman or marshal Auib

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 19:52 GMT)

why the hell Jahurul islam and Abul are in the team ?? Mominul also has not very impressive ODI records. and why Shamsur Rahman wasn't picked up ? 6 fifties on 12 matches with a 98 not out, what else more could he do than that ?! it is high time for him to be picked up ! Poor decision by the selectors.....

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 19:28 GMT)

Why there is Ziaur Rahman?????as he has no good score in BPL.Why there is no Shamsur rahman after being second highest scorer in BPL.Plz answe Mr.Akram Khan.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 19:12 GMT)

why there is no sabbir??? he is far far better than ziaur rahman.shamur rahman should have been included instead of mominul/anamul.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 18:57 GMT)

Nazmul Hossian has good records against Sri Lanka in ODI.. Do feel he has been offered less chance than other bowlers

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 18:44 GMT)

Good squad except Ziaur Rahman. I can't understand why selectors are picking him always. He is neither a good batsman nor a good bowler or fielder, so why is he? Sabbir Rahman could be far better than him for ODI as well as T20. Till 2 years there is no ListA tournament arranged in our country, so I hardly request to BCB from all BD cricket fan, please arrange ListA tournament regularly either give ListA status to DPL. Also try to live telecast it.

Posted by British_North_America on (March 13, 2013, 17:57 GMT)

Should be Shamshur instead of jahurul/anamul

Posted by bayzid47 on (March 13, 2013, 17:40 GMT)

My Top XI squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Shamsur Rahman, Mohammad Ashraful, Mahmudullah, Nasir Hossain, Sohag Gazi, Abdur Razzak, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain

Shamsur should be given chance as he is in form

Posted by Shajadul on (March 13, 2013, 17:20 GMT)

Why Samsur is not in the team...he did exceptionally well in BPL. Anamul needs to mature. It seems he's not ready yet.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 16:45 GMT)

The squad will be as usual 1) Tamim 2)Jahurul/Anamul 3)Ashraful 4)Mominul 5)Mushfiq 6)Nasir 7)Mahmudullah 8) Gazi 9)Abul 10)Razzak 11) Rubel They should give chance to Nazmul and ziaur has been out of form . Don't be shocked by the selection . The players in domestic should feel the heat of getting chance in international . a lot of competition already . I guess even Shakib,Nafees, Mashrafe will have to face tough time if they don't perform . And the selection is right , you just can't remove any player from the squad any time . You have to give them chances because they are in international because they have the talent . Anyways bcb should be wise , shamsur, mosharraf, shabbir, taskin Are really talented , look how young Nasir is performing , he has avg of 50 in test and 35+ in Odi . Don't let them disappear .

Posted by AusBang on (March 13, 2013, 16:30 GMT)

still its a good selection, I guess it was very hard for the selectors. also feel sorry for samsur, in current team there is no room for him, but this is not the end for him, he will have his chance one day.

Posted by Sal_H on (March 13, 2013, 16:10 GMT)

Bangladesh bowling is really suffering with the loss of Mashrafe and Shakib. Its a sad situation for the talented fast-bowler Mash, who has been out of the game due to injury a big part of his career. Such a waste!

Posted by The_Ashes on (March 13, 2013, 16:09 GMT)

If BD had all their players fit then I feel this would be the best ODI 11 - Tamim, Shamsur, Anamul, Shakib, Nasir, Rahim, Mahmudullah, Gazi, Mortaza, Razzak and Rubel.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 16:01 GMT)

I think we will miss Shakib more in ODI & T20 because he could have been make another batsman in the team to strengthen the LINE UP.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 15:02 GMT)

Oh nooooooo... Mashrafiiii is injured... Y God Y?? almost 6 - 7 players hvnt get chance due to injury.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 14:54 GMT)

good selection . hopefully they would do well and win Odi series. Best of luck

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 14:40 GMT)

Ash should be in test & T-20 not in ODi. Shamsur deserves a chance.

Posted by Pickpocket on (March 13, 2013, 14:31 GMT)

What good competition in the team here. Selectors faces a good problem for selecting 15 squad. Only Shamsur Rahman is missing for this tour but when all injured player will ok then selection of a team 15 will be more tough. this is not happen ever in bd cricket. I think this a good sign for our cricket & it proves our cricket is now wright of the track of development. Time is not far away when we challenge all the team in the world.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 14:18 GMT)

Good to see Nazmul Hossain back. An XI of Tamim, Anamul, Ashraful, Mushfiqur*+, Mahmadullah, Nasir, Mominul, Sohag, Razzak, Rubel, and Nazmul looks strong even without Shakib, Mashrafe, Shahriar Nafees and Naeem Islam. Shows how much Bangladesh have improved in the last 18 months.

Posted by AzAb12754 on (March 13, 2013, 14:12 GMT)

I'm shocked someone like Naeem is still part of Bangladesh ODI plans. I'd rather have someone like Shamsur than Tamim and having Shamsur in the squad would've made Tamim think that his place could be in jeopardy. I question who the selectors choose sometimes. However, I still think Bangladesh are good enough to win at least 2-1 providing we bowl well.

Posted by TheRisingTeam on (March 13, 2013, 14:03 GMT)

Shamsur, Shahriar, Mashrafe, Shafiul??? Mominul had a poor series against West Indies and a bad BPL and should've instead been specifically used for Tests. Ideal XI from this squad - Tamim, Anamul, Ashraful, Rahim, Nasir, Mahmudullah, Rahman, Gazi, Razzak, Rubel and Nazmul. Rahman is a fast bowler so it can give us an option should the wicket be beneficial for fast bowling.

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 13:55 GMT)

Where is Mashrafe ???? I am stunned not to see him in the squad....He is the best pace bowler in Bangladesh by distance..

Posted by Farhin01 on (March 13, 2013, 13:53 GMT)

where is Shamsur Rahman. he is unlucky...

Posted by asiacricket1234 on (March 13, 2013, 13:50 GMT)

Shafiul and Mashrafe both injured :(. Its OK for test if the Batsman can bat for longer but we can't draw ODI we need bowler who can stop other team from posting big score and we are gonna play this ODI series without 2of our main bowler (Shakib, Mash). Someone have to step up

Posted by   on (March 13, 2013, 13:22 GMT)

Oh no!! Ashraful's steady and calm performance was ok for test. but in ODIs he will need to balance his strike rate and will return to the same old Ashraful he is used to be. i can recall the two matches that the Dhk Gladiators lost because of his poor batting. Shamsur rahman shud have given a chance and dont know either what is ziaur rahman doing in the squad. he was terrible in BPL.
