Uncapped right-hand batsman Shamsur Rahman will replace an injured Tamim Iqbal in the Bangladesh squad for the remaining two ODIs against Sri Lanka. Tamim suffered a hairline fracture on his right thumb while fielding in the first ODI in Hambantota after scoring 112.

Shamsur has scored 978 runs in 48 List-A matches at an average of 21.73 with a high score of 67. He was the third-highest run-scorer in the Bangladesh Premier League, in which he represented Rangpur Riders, with 421 runs from 12 matches at an average of 42.10 and a strike rate of 130.74, including six fifties. He is expected to join the Bangladesh side on Monday.

Tamim will return to Dhaka on Monday for further examination to determine the extent of his surgery.

Meanwhile, Shahadat Hossain, the replacement for Nazmul Hossain, will join the squad today and is expected to be available for the second ODI to be played in Hambantota tomorrow.

i just smile read all these comments. All is true. why Taskin in Bangladesh? why no include him? Mr Akram can u give any real reason. We BD supporters do not like to include these three guys Abul, Rubel & Shahadad IN ODI cricket forever. We want Like Zia, Masrafee or Nazmul or Taskin OR other new guy. I do not understand our national coach Bowling coach. What he teach our pacer, just to say always down. We lost first match becaz of Abul & rubel as well as captain poorly couducting bowling line. So no pacer always include siinners. no need rubbish bowlers

  • ashqarmahi on March 25, 2013, 4:45 GMT

if BD fast bowler bowl like 1st ODI than srilankan under 15 team can beat the hell u up....come on guys..dont try what u cant do....please bowl with line and length....ziaur did that ...please learn from that new guy...!!

  • Ain_EL_Sabet on March 25, 2013, 2:37 GMT

If Shamsu mia does well against srilanka then he should partner with tamim in odi in near future. Bd pacers are awful, only ziaur rahman seems okay.

  • SapnerJadukar on March 24, 2013, 22:28 GMT

Damm it!! How difficult it is to pick best available 11 in the country. Mr.Akram and gong. .Please use the common sense.

@arif you have the same mindset as the bangladesh selectors. we dont need pacers who can bowl at 140k's but we need pacers who can bowl at a good line and length. that's what makes a pacer succesful(think of McGrath) someone like Abul(no experience in the domestic formats at all) or Rubel(very, very inconsistent) or even Shahadat(very X 10^1999 inconsistent) don't deserve to be even considered for selection. what makes Masrafe and Nazmul good pacers is their control and accuracy(they aren't exactly the fastest bowlers in the world) Also, if you look at what happened in the 1st ODI, Zia, who is a lot slower than Abul and Rubel, outshone them with the ball.

Mushfiq has to be attacking both in his mentality and approach while fielding .

  • on March 24, 2013, 17:24 GMT

@anwar chowdhury.... Its a good team... Young, but very promising... One problem though is the new ball attack.... A spinner has to share the new ball with Taskin... And also not sure whether the team should play two left-arm spinners against a team that has that many left-hand batsmen in the top order...

  • Bang_La on March 24, 2013, 16:37 GMT

@Anwar Chowdhury, I agree with you, all rounder Marshal Ayub must get a chance. Keep Shahadat and Rubel out of the team. Bangladesh management should come out of box to pick so called "experienced" players, come on!

  • Captainman on March 24, 2013, 16:29 GMT

If Shahadat is picked then all is lost. Nasir Hossain should bat at number 4 tomorrow.

  • on March 24, 2013, 16:17 GMT

i am not sure whether shamsur play or not in 3rd odi but i hope he will get chance in odi,s in opening with tamim in near future.Because anamul haq should get chance in national side ,it is because of his footwork problem .anyway he was batting in 9th position in under-19 ,that timewhen minhazul abedin(ex coach of under 19) lifted him up in the order.

haha..no offence but y shahadat? there are far better playerz dan him!!! i guess shahadatz figurez wud show somethn like dis...5 over for 48.....lol....newayz.....shamsur is a good choice....but taskin is very very young...he should be given more time in domestic....n at max he should be named for the t2O.....BEST OF LUCK TO THE TIGERZ!!! hope u guyz can win versus the lionz!!!

  • on March 24, 2013, 15:23 GMT

Hopefully Shamsur will prove his talent in this series and good decision by BCB. BCB should find fast bowlers who can bowl around 140km/h.

  • SportyKid97 on March 24, 2013, 15:01 GMT

I can guarantee this that Shahadat will prove everyone wrong. He will run through the SL Lineup... Good Luck bro!

  • on March 24, 2013, 14:46 GMT

Not enough good bowler in Bangladesh team, they can forget about beating Sri Lanka in this tour

  • BOND_OO7 on March 24, 2013, 14:42 GMT

Rubel and shahdat should be thrown out of the squad ! Mosharraf and taskin Should get a chance

  • on March 24, 2013, 14:37 GMT

Somebody named Opurbo suggested a probable side for BD in the absence of so many players and i liked his suggestion which is like this: 1.Jahurul Islam 2.shamsur rahman 3.Marshal ayub 4.mominul haque 5.mahmudullah 6.Nasir 7.mushfiq 8.Gazi 9.Mukhtar ali 10.razzak 11.taskin ahmed. I agree and believe that bringing shahadat or keeping rubel who were out of form even in the domestic league wouldn't do any good for BD team rather by bringing those players who are currently performing as per the suggestion hereby made might bring some fighting spirit in the team which is missing totally in the 1st ODI.

  • real26_03 on March 24, 2013, 14:29 GMT

Good Replacement.. I hope that he gets a chance and performs!!

  • Bang_La on March 24, 2013, 14:02 GMT

Its a dire situation. As Taskin is young and inexperienced, that should not put him out of count. He is still far better than Shahadat by any standard. So, bring him in instead of Shahadat.

  • mij374 on March 24, 2013, 13:58 GMT

There is no Bangladesh can win with player like Shahadat

  • British_North_America on March 24, 2013, 13:43 GMT

Very good move.BCB please pick Taskin.

  • The_Ashes on March 24, 2013, 12:59 GMT

Unbelievable! Shahadat Hossain returns to the ODI squad. Just watch how expensive he will be, deserve to get thrashed now.
