Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka, 1st ODI: Sri Lanka v Bangladesh at Hambantota, Mar 23, 2013
Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets (with 32 balls remaining) (D/L method)

The opening batsmen are walking towards the middle. Nice stands and grass banks around the ground, it's a shame they are all empty. Because I would pay a lot to watch Lasith Malinga, good to see him...Two slips in place

2.05 pm: Sri Lanka have won the toss and decided to bowl first. In another news, Kumar Sangakkara will keep wickets.

SL team: Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kushal Perera, Kumar Sangakkara, Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Jeevan Mendis, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Sachithra Senanayake, Lasith Malinga

Kusal: "I have a funny feeling that Kusal Janith Perera is the next Jayasuriya. His wrist power and positive attitude, is much like the blaster himself. Watch out! He just scored a Triple, double, and a 97."

Tharindu: "Kusal, its too early to compare KJP with the legendary cricketer Sanath. He surely has some styles of Sanath, but he has a long way to go even to compare with Sanath."

Tchock: "Kushal Perera should really get a descent run as an opener in every format of the game as he is definitely a futur prospect for the opening slot. With Dilshan on the verge of retiring I don't see any young player able to take up the torch. He is also a good wicket keeper and could allow chandimal to concentrate solely on his batting."

inzi: "@ Kushal : You are not Kushal Janith Perera right?....lol"

Bangladesh are not playing Mominul, Mosharraf Hussain and Jahurul Islam. That means Ziaur Rahman becomes the 106th Bangladesh ODI player. The players will be wearing black armbands in memory of the Bangladesh president, Zillur Rahman, who died on March 20.

Suween: "Has anyone realised there are 3 Perera's in SL's squad and 3 Hossain's in Bangladesh's squad. When was the last time that happened?" --- Good spot Suween

1.50 pm: Good afternoon to our coverage of the ODI leg of Bangladesh's tour of Sri Lanka. We are about 10 mins away from toss and 40 mins away from the start of the match. The teams have moved to Hambantota for the first two matches. Bangladesh looked good in patches during the Tests, but it is in the one-dayers that they can be quite dangerous, writes Mohammad Isam in the match preview.

The two teams last played an ODI a year ago - in Asia Cup - and Bangladesh won that match by five wickets.

"Very hot in Hambantota," says Riyaz and Isam concurs with him. Although, there could be some rain later in the day. Less than a hundred people in the ground at the moment.

M Abu Haque: "Less than 100 people in the ground? Then who will support the Lankans?"

Sohag: "I guess if this game took place in Dhaka there would have been around twenty thousand or even more people in the stadium to support the team"

Thivi: "@M Abu Haque: This ground is built amidst an oasis. There is no quorum in that place to have international matches played there. Could have had it in Dambulla or Colombo where it would have been a carnival. Don't know why admins persist with hambantota.

Yohan Danushka: "Just heard only 100 ppl at ground . No wonder coz Hambantota doesnt have local crowd base and heavily depend on crowds from other areas of country. You cant expect ppl to travel there for this match . thats why i always prefer ODI s at colombo . As the game goes on officials will make this free entry and ppl will gather ."

Lights are fully on now. They are springing back to life. Everyone is back in the field now. Malinga to continue - He as four overs to go..

Didi: "When the comments start flowing...the match stops?..."

Nakib Ahmed: "Too much for tamim to do,having to think about staying till the end and having to keep the boundaries going ever other over.BD should be happy with 230"

Oh no, the players are going off the field because it's too dark to play as one of the light-towers has gone out. Eight overs to go in the innings, but the umpires think the light is not too good. So this is likely to be a 15-20 minute break because of power failure...

william: "Following the game with no T.V coverage, does anybody know what a defendable total might be ?" - 260-270 is generally a very good total here in Hambantota Will

atiq: "Its about time for Tamim to try all the audacious shots at the same time and get out immediately. I hope I am wrong"

Dr.G: "Angelo's drop is going to be costly.... btw Haha anyone like thisara perera as t20 captain ? Just dont like seeing chandimal waste his talent in t20 form !"

CGI: "SLC is taking another cost effective action, calling there brigade of fireflies to help this matter. Let's hope they will come soon..." --- Fireflies! that would indeed be innovative and a perfectly environmentally friendly way to play cricket.

Pavel: "I was waiting for some fireworks but found " bad light ""

Tony from Perth: "At the current run rate, Bangladesh should score around 220 perhaps 250 if they lift the run rate in the last 5 overs."

The comments have started working now, so BD, SL and Neutral - all made up - can go to sleep.

6.36 pm, End of innings: Bangladesh have posted a healthy 259 after being put into bat, and it's something Sri Lanka wouldn't have expected. The innings faltered as they lost three early wickets, but a strong stand between the centurion, Tamim, and Nasir Hossain, followed by some late hitting from Nasir have given Bangladesh a strong total. The highest chase on this ground is 211 and Sri Lanka will have to beat that today if they have to take lead in the ODI series.

Fathima Rusna: "Game on. What ever happens this is going to be an interesting chase. Can't wait to see triple centurion Kushal Perera in action. Hope it won't be 45 minutes as usual"

shawon: "@Liam.... nasir played at number 6 today but his usual positon is always number 7"

Saimum: "The batsmen have done their part of the job. Now it's the job of the bowlers to ball sensibly to restrict Sri Lanka within 259 and take a lead in the ODI Series. Go Bangladesh!!"
