India in Sri Lanka ODI Series - 3rd ODI

Sri Lanka v India

India won by 5 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)

2.20pm Karthik: "Narrow the spectrum means making him a 'Munaf'esque player. Reduce the pace and improve the accuracy so that he will be neglected for future selection just like munaf!!!"

Rejoy: ""Narrow down the spectrum he bowls"!?!?! Did Dhoni actually say that? A career in management consulting beckons..."

Aravinden: "Surely Thirimanne has been in better form and looks to have more quality than CHandimal. PLus the advertising on ten sports is not "spectacular"" It has made the IPL seem a model of restraint.

2.00pm Toss Sri Lanka choose to bat. Two changes for India: legspinner Rahul Sharma, recently in the news after testing positive for recreational drugs, and Ashok Dinda are in. Ojha and Umesh Yadav are out. Rohit keeps his place.

Sorry one change to the Sri Lanka line-up: Jeevan Mendis comes in for Lahiru Thirimanne. Good change that as it boosts the bowling, given how shaky a debut it was for Isuru Udana.

Dhoni: "Rahul is a bowler who can get a bit more bounce. Dinda always go all out, he gives his 100% whether it is IPL or his country. Umesh has been a bit expensive for us, we want to narrow down the spectrum he bowls."

David and others: "Um...can someone explain what "narrow down the spectrum he bowls" means? Please!" A synonym for "right areas".

1.40pm Greetings everyone. The Olympics come along once every four years, India v Sri Lanka at Colombo seemingly every other week. Game three coming up, with the series locked at 1-1.

Here's our preview for the game, and the big question of whether Rohit or Tiwary will play was, seemingly, settled by these Gambhir quotes.

How many of you managed to catch the Olympics opening ceremony? Cricket isn't a part of the Games, but it made a fleeting appearance during the ceremony. Here's a pic.

Tony Grieg says he isn't sure Thisara Perera as good a player as his numbers suggests, and says that while Perera is good, he's had some luck going his way as well. Have you seen this stats piece about Perera, Kohli and their astonishing rate of picking up Man-of-the-Match awards?

Pitch report: Arun Lal says it is a flat, hard track with an even spread of grass. He says it is a good track for batting, usually one you would want to bat first on, but also that the ball comes on a bit better under lights at the Premadasa.

Discuss this from Davis: "Dinesh Chandimal is the Rohit Sharma of SL. Both are technically sound players. Chandimal played 41 matches, scored 1200 runs, averages 36 with 2 centuries, 8 half-centuries, top score of 111 and 8 Not outs. On, the other hand, Rohit played 82 matches, scored 1950 runs, averages 32 with 2 centuries, 12 half-centuries, top score of 114 and 16 Not outs. Both have continued to fail miserably, and still manage to get a place in the playing 11." A couple of years ago, the comparison was between Rohit and Kapugedera.

R Sharma to Mendis, 1 run, short of length and on off stump, squeezed towards point for a single

Nine overs to go, Zaheer has only one. Death bowling has been one of India's weak spots in ODIs recently. Plus, India have about half an hour to bowl nine overs or Dhoni risks getting banned from the next game.

Mathews has had plenty of running to do, and he doesn't look at his most sprightly. A little out of breath here.

Another dog interruption. This one does exactly what the first dog did, so we have another hold-up in play.

India finish their innings at 6.23pm, 23 minutes behind the scheduled close. MS Dhoni will be one nervous man, waiting for the match referee's word.

Sri Lanka were in big trouble early on, slipping to 20 for 3, but will now be favourites after two contrasting century stands. First, their stalwarts Jayawardene and Sangakkara put on a single-filled 121-run stand to revive the innings. Both fell before the 40th over, but Angelo Mathews yet another showed his quality at the end of the innings, and Jeevan Mendis again grabbed his chance as they took apart India's bowlers at the death. Big ask now for India's batting. Can they pull it off? Join me at 6.45pm for the chase.
