Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has made a provision for reserve days for the two remaining ODIs against Pakistan in Colombo. Pakistan made the request after the third ODI on Wednesday was washed out. The matches are scheduled for Saturday and Monday and rain is forecast for both days. The five-match series stands at 1-1.
"The next two ODIs will have reserve days," Nishantha Ranatunga, the SLC secretary, told ESPNcricinfo. "There was a plan to shift the games to Hambantota, as it was the only area not experiencing rain at the moment, but due to logistical issues we had to drop it."
Only 6.2 overs in total were possible on Wednesday, leading the umpires to call off the game at around 8.40pm. A sharp shower curtailed play by more than an hour after the first ball was bowled, but rain returned shortly after play resumed. No play was possible after the second interruption. The first ODI in Pallekele was also interrupted by rain, but the match was eventually reduced to 42 overs a side.
Rain was always going to be an issue as the series was scheduled during the south-west monsoon. Parts of the southern coastal belt, including Matara, experienced gale force winds yesterday. Only two ODI series have been played in Sri Lanka in the month of June: the Nidahas Trophy in 1998 which had half its matches wiped out by rain, and the Asia Cup in 2010 which was held in the dry zone of Dambulla. However, no matches will be played in Dambulla on this tour.

Posted by SyedAftab on (June 16, 2012, 8:24 GMT)Rain in a ODI is like advertisement in a good movie :)
Posted by khurramsch on (June 16, 2012, 6:19 GMT)if it was rainy season why didnt they scheduld these matches at dryer place first up? reserve days will not benifit. it may give result but start stop situation ruins all charm. & even who knows it will be finished in reserve days
Posted by PaksGrt on (June 16, 2012, 2:26 GMT)You really can't have a Dome in Cricket as that will change dynamics of the game. Cricket is built upon surrounding weather conditions including wind, moisture and so on. Either you play away during that time or play in Dambulla.
Posted bymaybe a roof over premadasa stadium will solve the problem of playing cricket during the monsoonal season
Posted by@ shreyanas bodhankar we have 1 in wales kindlley google it and check it plz .. we arent dat much behind frm aussies
Posted bywell basicall referring to SamAsh07's comment about stadium domes. There is 1 in the world and that is in australia. The telstra Dome stadium. Now the debate could be as to why no other board especially the asian ones want to implement it.Also considering most matches in asia are played in rain season.
Posted byI agree to all who proposed for the stadium dome. Its a MUST HAVE thing for cricket as a 'no-match' is really frustratinggggggggggggggggg
Posted by CricketPissek on (June 15, 2012, 11:57 GMT)if SLC hadn't made such an utter mess of the Dambulla stadium, these matches could have been hosted there along with Hamba which are both in dry zones. Mismanagement ftw..
Posted by MrChucker on (June 15, 2012, 11:52 GMT)Rain or dome there won't be any cricket. When it rains the game is washed out , build a dome and there won't be money to pay the cricketer's, they will all resign. Why not have a concrete pitch and players and umpires in raincoats, won't even need a drinks break. The poor umpire is going to get water splashed on his face when checking no balls like in the picture above.
