Younis plays down ODI return

19

Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has played down talks of him scoring plenty of runs in the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka.

"Yes, it is true Sri Lanka has been a good team for me. I scored a hundred against them on my Test debut and also a triple-hundred," he said. "But this is a new series and this is going to be a much tougher series as they have been doing well in recent times.

"I will just try to give my best but yes, when you resume playing in any form of the game after a break, it takes a while to find your rhythm and timing."

Pakistan tour Sri Lanka in August to play two Tests and three ODIs. It will be their first Test in seven months after their home series against the same opponents in UAE in January.

Younis was also all praise for the new head coach Waqar Younis who has begun a second stint with the national team.

"I have worked with Waqar before when he was head coach and during his time, the team showed very good progress and won consistently. I am confident we will resume our winning ways and improve from where we left off last time."

Pakistan are scheduled to play at least 15 ODIs before the World Cup, against Sri Lanka, Australia and New Zealand.

I think Younis should have some confidence in his batting. With Younis in the squad I think Hafeez should forget about playing at no.3. He will only get into the side as a replacement for one of the openers (probably Sharjeel). I hope team management doesn't think that cuz Hafeez did good against SL in UAE that he should be no.3 again cuz we all know he failed in Asia cup and t20 wc. I think the #3 spot will go to either Younis or Maqsood but considering that Maqsood's form was not that good and Younis is a legend in tests I guess Younis should get the spot. I really hope that Fawad doesn't get dropped for Younis cuz he played well and we need him.

Bating order should be: 1.Ahmed Shehzad, 2.Sharjeel Khan, 3.Younis Khan, 4.Fawad Alam, 5.Misbah-ul-haq, 6.Umar Akmal,

This way we have 2 left handers and in Younis, Fawad & Misbah we have a strong middle order which hopefully won't collapse. I think they should keep this line-up til the end of the world cup.

He should be confident and he should believe in his batting. he can and will do really good in Sri Lanka. We would need him for the World Cup because guys like Sharjeel,Maqsood,Anwar e.t.c might not do good in AUS/NZ because they haven't played much on green/bouncy/wet pitches

Its a good move, now you would see an agressive Misbah in batting

He is useless in Odis its a bad decision to include him in the squad. Je should retire now and become a coach

I'm surprised at how people keep on saying that we have better players than Younis. I mean he had been out of the ODI squad for quite some time and who do you guys think has done enough to replace him? I believe we will be needing him in the WC, especially because of the playing conditions in Aus and NZ. I hope he finds some form before the mega event and signs off on a high!

Younis is a real champ for Pak back in the day but maybe its time to move on. If he plays well against Lanka it may propel him to get back for the WC but will he perform consistently in WC against tough opposition under serious pressure? If he doesnt he will become one of those whose removal will come to late causing much hurt to the team before he quits. I love what Younis has done for the pak team but we need to pick serious talents and groom them for the future a la german football team. Same people who won the youth WC (players like Ozil) won it later for Germany in the real WC.

Babar Azam anyone? Captain, splendid eye candy batsman and competent bowler. He has it all.

Hope Fawad Alam still gets to play. Only one except Hafeez (his batting is weak), Misbah and Younis who use their brains when playing cricket. Ability wise Pakistan are a fantastic team but they fail quite often because they don't use their intelligence. Top culprits -- The Akmals.
