So finally, play is about to get underway at the Premadasa. Sri Lanka's openers walk out. West Indies are already there. Paranavitana will take strike. Roach has the new ball.

Zlid Nahsivar: "Isn't it good to bowl first on a fresh wicket like this? you can have a look at the pitch behaves and bat well." Well, both captains are thinking that once the moisture dries up, it will be a good batting surface. So the first couple of hours will be crucial.

Alright, time for some cricket. Sri Lanka have won the toss and chosen to bat. Kumar: "Not an easy decision. We will have a bat. Pitch looks to have dried out. We have two new pacers, Kulasekara and Lakmal. Herath comes in for Randiv."

Sammy: "We would have had a bat as well. We'll now try to get some wickets. Benn comes in for Andre Russell. Shillingford is a strong guy mentally, and we'll be looking to help him out throughout the match. He did some good things for us in Galle." Interesting to see who will share the new ball with Roach. Will it be Sammy or Dwayne Bravo?

Ranil Abeynaike doing the pitch report on Ten Sports: "The ground has been totally relaid, around three feet of soil has gone into it. No cracks on the fresh pitch, there is some moisture, once it dries out after a couple of hours, this will be a good one for batting."

Kamsy is back, with his hair intact: "Shehan: Answer is me... That saved my hair."

ricky: "shehan: i'll stick to the options.... i'm choosing all of the above" Come on, take a stand

Rifqi: "Answer: The Umpire! He was tired signaling for all the sixes Gayle was hitting!" Well, you guys are not sticking to the options Shehan provided

Zeb: "To Shehan, Mark Taylor and Bradman (from the grave)"

Shehan: "Quiz: When Gayle got out last match, whom do you think celebrated the most? Lara (record), Sangakkara (captain), Mendis (bowler) or Sammy (now we can declare)?"

Andrew brings good news from Colombo: "Match scheduled to start at 12:30."

11.10 am The pitch inspection has taken place, and Andrew says they have decided to have another one at 11.30 am. Well, the wait continues.

Joey: "I'm with Eric. Or, if not a weatherproof material, at least a way to cover the field."

Sriguy: "There was a monumental amount of rain last night in Colombo, 2nd only to the one which affected the Windies tour match, Premadasa normally takes a lot time to dry, unlike SSC, A result would only be possible if there was an under prepared pitch. Looks lke rain will have a big say in this test." Well, apparently the outfield has been relaid as well, in order to improve the drainage at the Premadasa. It's being tested already with all the rain.

Eric: "We have been playing Cricket for ages now. We have been getting rains, well for aaaaaaages now. Still why can't these people find a material to be used in those covers in which the rain water will not penetrate? If that happens we will be able to start a match as soon as the rain stops. No WET/ DAMP out fields anymore."

Sumzy: "I am just few blocks away from the ground and there's not much of sun out there but there's little wind." We'll keep you updated as soon as we get the latest from the ground.

Bushra Ali: "Cant wait to see another gayle blinder.and the celebrations that would follow. What do you think he will do this time if he gets a 100?" He'll hug all the Sri Lanka bowlers

Arthur can't figure out just what it is: "Did we not have a similar situation when SL played some matches in the height of their rainy season at home. Was it this year or this time last year? Is it deja-vu?"

This is for all you soccer fans. Monday's EPL game between Sunderland and Everton ended in 2-2 . Head over to ESPNsoccernet for all the latest football news.

Andrew Fernando, our man from the stadium: "It's not too bad now. Cloud cover is not helping the drying process though."

Sanchez: "Why the hell would you have a Test match, the pinnacle of cricket, in a stadium with a unknown pitch and 500 temporary seats? What kind of message is that?" I have no clue. Kumar Sangakkara has some idea though, "This venue was picked most probably because it is a World Cup venue to try and see whether the pitches and everything was upto scratch." Yeah, right. Er, how about playing a domestic game first?

Ajithkumar: "This week we will have 8 countries playing test - only Bangladesh left out." If you don't want to miss even a moment of all the Test cricket coming up, don't forget to install the ESPNCricinfo toolbar . It's your link to everything in cricket.

Kashif: "Why Benn was suspended?" The big man got himself into trouble because of this.

Niala Baboolal: "West Indies is brimming with confidence and that draw at Galle was like a win for us. We are hoping that Sammy wins the toss again, make the right call and get things on the way, weather permitting!"

There's lots happening in the cricket world. New Zealand are struggling against India in Nagpur, and the Ashes are about to begin. Make sure you don't miss out anything by installing our Chrome extension. And it's free!

Andrew Fernando, our man at the Premadasa: "The entire stadium is under construction. There are about 500 temporary seats but the rest is all iron rods and concrete slabs."

9.50 am The news at the moment from Colombo is that play will be delayed because of a damp outfield on account of overnight rain. The pitch and the area around it is relatively dry, and the groundstaff are hard at work to get the outfield in shape. The umpires will have an inspection at 10.30 am and Asad Rauf hopes things would have improved substantially by then.

Meanwhile, the stands itself look like they have been hit by lightning, the entire place is a construction site.

While we wait for the start, you can head over to our Facebook page and share your thoughts on how this Test match could pan out. But no abuse please!

Sri Lanka will go into this Test with a different pace attack compared to the one that played in Galle, while the headache for West Indies is how to fit Sulieman Benn into the XI, now that he is back after serving his suspension.

The pitch at the Premadasa has been relaid ahead of the World Cup, and is an unknown quantity for both teams. Imagine going into a Test match, and neither side knowing how the surface will behave. So much for home advantage.

Hello and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's coverage of the second Test between Sri Lanka and West Indies at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. West Indies had the upper hand in the first Test in Galle, enforcing the follow on, but the match was hit by rain, and only a draw was possible.

The pitch has not been watered for 5 days now, early morning moisture will help the seamers in the first hour. The batsmen will have to be watchful. The Sun is out and the players are in the middle.

It is cloudy at the moment. Good morning and welcome to coverage on day 2. I am Binoy George and along with Gopi Rangarajan will bring you the action today.

And that's it for the day, folks. Play has been officially called off due to bad light. We'll have an early start tomorrow, hopefully. At 9.45 am. Till then, this is Abhishek Purohit signing off for the day, along with Gopi Rangarajan. Thanks for all the feedback. Cheers!

Andrew almost pulls down the shutters: "The ground is completely covered now."

Ramzi: "Normally during this period Colombo doesn't get any rain. It's just bad luck, and probably the 3rd test would be a washout as well where Pallekele gets rains during this time." What a gloomy forecast

Alexa: "Would it not be better to have movable roofs on test grounds, rain and light would not be factors then" Claustrophobic cricket, eh?

Mike: "That's all folks for today, see you tomorrow hopefully around 10.00 am if it doesn't rain like yesterday." See you, mate

Andrew's optimism fades with the dying light: "Not enough light to begin, the covers continue to pile on."

hsjayawardana can see far and wide: "Hi folks.. I am from colombo and I know the weather and I am working from a 30th floor bldg and can see around 30 km around. Entire area is very gloomy and dark."

Our man Andrew, optimistic Andrew: "Covers have come on, but there does seem to be a little bit more light around."

Dilshan says the end is near: "Shahid, know that the apocalypse is slowly approaching, and if you can remember it has never rained like this for a long time."

Alexa gets pedantic: "Actually both the bright pun and dull pun work. Bright is an ironic pun." How punny

While cricket falls prey to fickle weather, don't forget to head over to ESPNscrum to catch up with the latest from the world of rugby. If you are a rugby fan, that is.

Shahid is unimpressed with the scheduling: "Who's bright idea was it to play it at this time of year? Its going to be like this for all 5 days of this test match." You mean it was a dull idea to play this game in overcast conditions.

You can catch up on all the action in this game so far in Andrew Fernando's bulletin, which will be up here soon. For all the action from the cricket world, do not forget to install our Chrome extension. And it's free!

The umpires Kettleborough, Rauf and Dharmasena are having a discussion out in the middle. Now they too go off the field.
