Profile

A promising right-hand opening batsman, Peter Handscomb impressed during his Sheffield Shield debut in 2011-12 when he made a patient 71 on an early season Gabba pitch. Handscomb had earned his first rookie contract with Victoria earlier in the year, following a strong summer of club cricket with St Kilda. A talented junior tennis player, Handscomb chose a career on the pitch rather than on the court. The Australian-born son of English parents, he holds a British passport but has lived all of his life in Melbourne. His allegiance is firmly with the country of his birth, and he represented Australia's Under-19 side in 2009.
