Mahinda Jayaratne died two days after being shot by a gunman who arrived by motorcycle at his home in Sri Lanka. He was a medium-pace bowler for North-Western Province and Kurunegala between 1989 and 1993, and when he was killed was running the campaign for a candidate in municipal elections.
