Seamers hand advantage to Bangladesh
Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy 33 for 1 (Kayes 16*) trail Sri Lanka Academy XI 252 (Mendis 136, Sajidul Islam 3-35, Mahbubul Alam 2-53) by 219 runs
Bangladesh Cricket Board Academy looked to seize the initiative against Sri Lanka Academy XI in the third four-day match in Colombo, having bowled out the Sri Lankans for 252 inside 79 overs. Bangladesh, in reply, lost just the wicket of opener Ashiqul Islam in the eighth over.
Having been put in to bat by Naeem Islam, Sri Lanka were in trouble right from the start with both openers Yohan de Silva and Thilina Masmulla back in the pavilion with the score on 24.
It was up to the captain Jeewan Mendis to lead from there on, as he notched up a century as wickets continued to fall at the other end. He was involved in the highest partnership of the innings, putting on 86 for the third wicket with Nadeera Nawela, but finally perished at 136 with the total at 188 for 5.
None of the other Sri Lankan batsmen managed to score more than 20, as the Bangladeshis bowled with a lot of discipline. Sajidul Islam was the pick of the lot, grabbing three wickets, while Mahbubul Alam and Ziaur Rehman finished with two apiece.
