SLC looks to tighten up on player-media interaction

Sri Lanka Cricket is set to tighten up on players' interaction with the media. From now on, Sri Lanka players will have to obtain prior permission from SLC CEO Ajith Jayasekera before speaking with any media personnel. A letter to this effect is to be drafted by Jayasekera, in consultation with SLC lawyer Harsha Amarasekera, and sent to all the contracted players.
A spokesman for SLC said that this regulation may also be included as a clause in the players' contracts. The players are expected to sign their new contracts before the start of the series against Pakistan, which begins on June 1.
The executive committee of SLC had also decided to write a "mild" letter to former captain Kumar Sangakkara, regarding an interview he had given to a newspaper, "reminding him of his obligations" and stressing "that such actions will not be tolerated in future". Sangakkara had previously come under the scrutiny of the cricket administration in Sri Lanka, when he had delivered the MCC's Spirit of Cricket Lecture in England, in which he has said that the establishment was run by "partisan cronies".
The SLC, meanwhile, it is understood, has to pay the players the remainder of their outstanding salaries, along with the dues from the Commonwealth Bank Series (played in Australia in February-March) and the Asia Cup (played in Bangladesh in March).

there was a same system when Arjuna, Aravinda era in Sri Lankan Cricket. players were not authorized to talk to media without permission.

Posted by maddy20 on (May 27, 2012, 22:17 GMT)SLC is an improvement of the big brother reality show. In bigbrother you are only closely monitored as to what you do. Here you have to get permission even before you even talk! Really innovative ideas to suppress players' opinions. God help SLC!
Posted by stormy16 on (May 27, 2012, 13:25 GMT)Why is this neccessary? I reckon its more a reflection of the maner the board runs the game than what the players may say to the media. The unfortunate reality is when you dont do the obvious and right thing then you are forced to take other decoy actions to cover up your deficiencies.

Does this mean that when a player wins a man of the match award he would have to get permission to speak at the presentation? this is also speaking to the media. It would be better to educate the players on how they should speak with the media and what areas they should refrain from. This would give the players also more confidence in speaking to the media and not worried if you would be in trouble after.

Posted byIt is a worrying trend among boards. SLC gags. BCCI denies Kapil a honor. ECB slams a fine on KP for a tweet. PCB uses contracts and categories to regulate player behavior. CA brings in age factor to selectively deny contracts. WICB is confused on dealing with talented players.
On one side is honest difference of opinion and freedom to air them; on the other side is indiscipline. Players and administrations view these differently. Where the line is to be drawn? Who decides it?
As Boards have power they are imposing their views on players thru the means known to them. 'Fall in line or else' is the message.

Posted byNo wonder Lasith Malinga refused to sign the new contract. Why do you want to be restrained with these conditions for the whole year for just $100k when you can earn $1M in 6 weeks? That also you are not gonna paid till the very end.
