Lasith Malinga is almost certain to miss both Sri Lanka's tour of Zimbabwe and the Champions League, due to personal commitments. Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed they have received Malinga's leave request, while Mumbai Indians have also been informed of his plans.

"We haven't had the time to approve his request yet, because we only got it from him on Friday," SLC secretary Nishantha Ranatunga said. "But since it is a personal reason, I don't think there will be any problem."

Malinga will be with his wife and family during his time off, as they expect their second child late in September. He will forego 20% of his annual IPL salary if he misses the Champions League, in addition to losing out on match fees. ESPNcricinfo understands, however, there is still a small chance he may play in the tournament.

Malinga is currently in the Caribbean, having played two matches for the Guyana Amazon Warriors CPL franchise, including Saturday's final.

Mumbai Indians play their first Champions League match on September 21, and the tournament finishes on October 6. Sri Lanka's limited-overs matches in Zimbabwe begin on October 26.

Malinga...best of luck.......Wish you and your family very nice and great blessed baby....See you back soon...with another series of Sri Lanka. Malinga should have that much of rest so that he can perform very well when he is back. Malinga should stay with his wife in these conditions. Best of luck Lasith Malinga Have a great time with you and your family.

The main concern is to skip playing that Zimbabwe Series! So that he gets enough rest while considering the amount of T20 League cricket he has played in recent past!

Malinga, no doubt a big blow for MI. Remember IPL 2013 Final, Malinga gave a good start to Mumbai. Rajasthan will win CLT20.

We should not worry about Malinga's income, the guy works hard to make those $$$. Your jealousy comments will not put his money machine out of business!!!!

Please leave Malinga alone and let him spend some time with the family.

If malinga will play for the champions league he would definitly have to attend the ZIM tour. Else we know he did it for money, but not for his country.

Malinga's absence (if it happens) will be a big blow for Mumbai Indians in CT. May not impact SL's fortunes against Zim, who are at the bottom of their league these days.
