Jayawardene to sign off at the SSC

Mahela Jayawardene's swan song will be at his home ground, after SLC's Executive Committee decided to move the second Test against Pakistan from the P Sara Oval to the SSC ground. Jayawardene has been prolific at the venue, piling up 2698 Test runs at an average 77.08.

Jayawardene also hit the highest score for a Sri Lankan and the highest score by a right-hander, at SSC, when he made 374 against South Africa there in 2006. He has played for SSC since his late teens, following a highly successful school cricket career with Nalanda College.

The change of venue means Jayawardene's final series will be played at his two favourite grounds, with the first match against Pakistan in Galle. No batsman has made more Test runs at any venue than Jayawardene has made at both. SLC said it will celebrate his career with commemorative events at both venues.

    @birkat: Mate, you forgot Lara's 375!

    @Triple_A: Have you checked the records? There are only 2 individual scores ahead of Mahela's 374. Lara's 400* and Hayden's 380. Both left handers.

    I agree with the comment posted earlier that Sri Lanka is surely destined to lose this match. Not because they cannot counter SA but because of their biased selection approach. If Mahela plays, Sri Lanka's demise is certain. He, in his present state cannot face this SA attack and the middle order that that is already feeble going to get from worse to hopeless with his inclusion. PLEASE replace Mahela before he does further damage and try out some fresh blood. At least that will be an investment for the future.

    Ok.. Someone give me a stat. What is the average amount of runs that is usually scored in a test match at this ground. I bet it's quite a few. With not many results on this ground. Usually a batsmens paradise pitch.

    Come on Maiya, score 1 of those elegant 100s to help us level the series. I really hope you come good. Thanks for the good times.

    He is clearly the most overrated SL player. I won't miss him. Better replace him with Vithanage or another youngster soon for the sake of team SL.
