A slow legbreak bowler, Wilfred Stoddart played occasionally for Lancashire, and in 1898 at Scarborough for Gentlemen against Players and for MCC against Australians. Captain of the Liverpool cricket and rugbyl teams, he was a member of the Lancashire CCC committee. A strong forward, he played rugby for Lancashire and for England in all the 1897 internationals, one of only six men to do so. He was a Liberal councilor in Liverpool. His brother, Lawrence, won the first US amateur golf championship.
