Welcome to Antigua and the start of Stanford 2020 Tournament. A tournament where, for the first time, 19 Caribbean territories are gathered in one place to fight it out for the first one million US dollar first prize. A 500,000 dollar second prize is also not to be smiled at.
Today two preliminary round matches take place, the first between St. Maarten and United States Virgin Islands (USVI). St Maarten, only 16 sq miles in size and a population of 40,000, is known for its shopping and Casinos while USVI is 120 sq miles in size with a population of 103,000. It is well known for its sailing and their duty free shops.
In the St Maarten side look out for the hard hitting John Eugene while Hamish Anthony, the USVI all-rounder, will be out to prove he can still play with the best.
The news from the Stanford ground is that US Virgin Islands have won the toss and will bat first
The weather is fine, warm, humid with not a cloud in the sky.
The pitch looks hard flat and ideal for 2020 cricket, there should be a few runs in there, the outfield has been cut way down and will be quick.
A smallish crowd in for this prelim round is being entertain by a kettle drum band as wait for the teams to take to the field of play.
