The previous oldest captain to make a Test century was Bob Simpson at 41 years, 359 days against India in Adelaide in 1977-78. This is Misbah's fifth-century after turning 40, all have come as captain; no captain scored more than three centuries after 40.

Two Pakistan batsmen, Javed Burki and Nasim-ul-Ghani, made centuries (both made 101) in their first Test at Lord's, in 1962, in their team's second innings. Shafiq, who is also playing in England for the first time, made 73 which is joint fourth-highest by a Pakistan player in his maiden Test innings at Lord's.
