Rain thwarts England warm-up

BCB XI v England XI - no play possible on opening day

England suffered a frustrating first day of their warm-up match against a BCB XI in Chittagong, as the day was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The game had been scheduled to start at 9am local time, but play was called off 30 minutes before the start of the two-day match at the MA Aziz Stadium.

There are serious doubts about the viability of the outfield ahead of the second day as well, with England's players forced to head to the nets to fine-tune their practice.

England are scheduled to get a second two-day warm-up underway on Sunday, with the first Test starting on October 20 at the ZA Chowdhury Stadium, the venue for last week's third ODI.

The delayed start means that Haseeb Hameed, Lancashire's 19-year-old opener, has been forced to wait to make his first appearance in an England shirt, as he prepares to stake his claim to become Alastair Cook's latest opening partner.
