Guptill ruled out of T20 series against Bangladesh
The New Zealand opener suffered a hamstring strain while runnings between the wickets in the third ODI against Bangladesh

New Zealand opener Martin Guptill has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 series against Bangladesh after sustaining a hamstring strain while running between the wickets in the third ODI in Nelson on Saturday. New Zealand Cricket said Guptill suffered a grade one hamstring strain on his left leg and will take two to four weeks to recover completely. Neil Broom replaces him in the T20 squad.
His injury comes ahead of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy starting from January 30 in Auckland. However, New Zealand coach Mike Hesson said he was positive Guptill will be fit to take on Australia with some rest and a couple of games in the Ford Trophy, New Zealand's domestic one-day tournament.
"Martin's obviously a key player for us with the white ball, so to lose him is disappointing," Hesson said. "We're confident with some rest, followed by a couple of domestic games, he'll be ready to play a big role against Australia at the end of January."
Hesson added that Broom, who followed up his maiden century with a 97 on Saturday, was an automatic replacement.
"We needed to replace an attacking opening batsman and with Neil's experience opening in the T20 format and his current form, he was a ready-made replacement. Martin also leads our fielding in white-ball cricket and so we're expecting Neil to be a big contributor in that area as well."
Broom has been impressive for Otago this year in New Zealand's domestic T20 tournament, the Super Smash, having scored 206 runs at 51.50 and a strike-rate of 140.13 before joining New Zealand for the ODI series.
