The first time spinners open in ODIs, and Guptill goes 1, 2, 3 for New Zealand

1 This match produced the first ever instance of two spinners opening the bowling to kick off an ODI - Jeetan Patel and Mitchell Satner shared the honour. Previously there have been eight occasions when spinners opened the bowling in the second innings, but never in the first. This was the 3843rd ODI.

4 Martin Guptill's 180 not out is the fourth-highest score when chasing in ODIs. The highest in chases is Shane Watson's 185 not out against Bangladesh in 2011, followed by MS Dhoni's unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka in 2005 and Virat Kohli's 183 against Pakistan in 2012. The previous highest score in chases for New Zealand was 141, by Scott Styris against Sri Lanka in the 2003 World Cup. Guptill also went past David Warner's 173, which was the previous highest by a batsman when chasing against South Africa.

3 Scores of 180 or more by Guptill in ODIs - the most by any batsman. Viv Richards, Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma have two such scores. Guptill has converted all his three 150-plus scores into 180 and above. No other New Zealand player has made more than one 150-plus score.

3 The top-three scores by a New Zealand batsman in ODIs are all by Guptill: 237*, 189* and 180*. No other Full Member team has its top-three ODI scores all going to the same batsman. The batsmen who have two of the top-three scores for their team: Viv Richards, Rohit Sharma and Tamim Iqbal.

11 Sixes hit by Guptill - the second-highest by a New Zealand player. Corey Anderson had hit 14 sixes in his record-breaking century against West Indies in 2014. Guptill himself had hit 11 sixes in his unbeaten innings of 237 against West Indies in 2015 World Cup. In chases, only Watson's 15 sixes in his 185 not out is higher than Guptill's 11. Quinton de Kock (178) and Marcus Stoinis (146*) also hit 11 sixes when chasing, both in recent months.

58.33 Percentage of Guptill's century innings in which he has remained not out - seven out of 12. Among 22 openers with 10 or more centuries, only Desmond Haynes (11 out of 17) has a higher percentage of not-out centuries - 64.70%. Gary Kirsten (seven out of 13) is the other opener with more than 50% not-out centuries. On the other hand, David Warner is the only one among the 22 openers with no not-out century - he has made 13 centuries.

180 The partnership between Guptill and Ross Taylor - the highest for by any wicket for New Zealand against South Africa, beating 154 between Jamie How and Brendon McCullum in Port Elizabeth in 2007. It was also New Zealand's joint-second-highest third-wicket partnership against any team.
