Williamson, Dhawan trip Delhi with 136-run stand

Kane Williamson, playing his first match in the new edition of the Indian Twenty20 tournament, thumped a commanding 89 off 51 balls, and alongside opener Shikhar Dhawan added a massive 136-run partnership that propelled Hyderabad to a 15-run win against Delhi at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Williamson's less-than-impressive record in earlier editions of the tournament, where he had hit only one six in eight innings, prompted Hyderabad to bench him for the first five matches of the tournament. However, on Tuesday, an aggressive Williamson came to the fore after Hyderabad lost their captain, David Warner, in the second over.

The Williamson-Dhawan combine hit three fours in the first four overs they faced, but then Williamson switched gears against Angelo Mathews and thumped him for two sixes in the seventh over. In the five-over period, between the fifth and seventh over, Willaimson and Dhawan added 52. Williamson, in the process, scored a 33-ball 50. The duo scored at a brisk 9.48 in the 14.2 overs they batted together. Williamson finally fell in the 17th over for 89 after hitting six fours and five sixes, while Dhawan followed two-overs later for a 50-ball 70. The impressive display helped Hyderabad amass 191.
