Steven Finn stars in England's win over India in third ODI

England fast bowler Steven Finn produced a match-winning spell that saw him claim five Indian wickets to help his side win their first match, by nine wickets, in the Carlton Mid ODI Tri-Series in Brisbane on Tuesday.

India captain MS Dhoni won the toss for the second straight match and opted to bat. However, his batsmen failed yet again to produce the goods. James Anderson, who did not feature in the first ODI against Australia, drew first blood in Brisbane and dismissed out-of-form opener Shikhar Dhawan for 1, in just the third over of the match.

Finn was the next to strike for England. He first had Ajinkya Rahane caught at mid-on by James Taylor, for 33. The Brisbane pitch provided the fast bowlers with enough assistance to trouble India's top order; and Finn made the most of the conditions.

He found the edge of Virat Kohli's bat in the 17th over and then dismissed Ambati Rayadu in similar fashion. The spell left India's top order in tatters at 67 for 5 after 19 overs.

India failed to recover from the procession of wickets that England's bowlers induced early on. Dhoni and Stuart Binny showed some resistance with scores of 34 and 44 respectively, but their side folded to a paltry 153.

England lost opener Moeen Ali in the third over of the chase, but his was the only English wicket to fall. Ian Bell and James Taylor's 131-run stand for the second wicket took England home.

After one round of matches, England are now second in the series with five points, behind Australia's nine.

"Outstanding. We really put a team performance, which I was delighted with," Eoin Morgan said. "There were individual performances. Steve Finn got that bounce and made most of it. Jimmy set the tone with an early breakthrough. If it swings, he tends to take advantage. It adds a hell of a lot of weight to the side. Australia [are a] very strong side at the moment, we will continue to concentrate on what we do well."
