The most remarkable thing about David Warner's 68 off 66 balls against India in Sydney was that it did not feature a single six. With Australia having lost a couple of early wickets, Warner adjusted his usually explosive game to focus on collecting runs. He took 17 singles, seven twos and three threes in his innings, working hard to take Australia towards a winning total.
Warner had been under pressure before the game, having failed to score a half-century in six previous games in the Commonwealth Bank Series. He responded with a responsible knock that made sure Australia got off to a steady start, which David Hussey and Matthew Wade then kicked on from.
That was not the end of Warner's contribution though. In the seventh over of the chase, Sachin Tendulkar responded to a call for a single from Gautam Gambhir, and charged towards the striker's end. Warner ran in from point and under-armed the ball onto the stumps. Tendulkar had his path blocked by the bowler Brett Lee, who had run towards the ball, and was well short.
