ICC Media Release
17-May-2004
Zimbabwe batsman Dion Ebrahim was yesterday (16 May) suspended for one Test match for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his team's second Test match against Sri Lanka in Bulawayo.
Ebrahim was suspended after his comments in a post-match media interview on day two of the Test were deemed offensive to the Sri Lankan team members and management.
He was charged under Level 2.4 of the Code which prohibits players from making public criticism of, or inappropriate comment on a match-related incident or match official.
The fine was imposed by ICC Match Referee Mike Procter in a hearing at the conclusion of play on the third day of the match at Queen's Sports Club in Bulawayo.
A Level 2 breach of the Code carries a fine of between 50 and 100 per cent of the player's match fee and/or a one Test match or two ODI match ban.
