Tasmania were skittled for 207 on the opening day of their Pura Cup match at Adelaide, as Mark Cleary picked up four quick wickets. By the close, South Australia had reached 25 for 1 in reply, although their day was marred when David Fitzgerald (11) fell to Xavier Doherty's final ball of the day.
Tasmania had won the toss and opted to bat, but were soon in trouble, as Scott Mason was trapped lbw for a duck in the fifth over. They struggled to 109 for 3 early in the second session, before Cleary, getting plenty of bounce and movement off the seam, wrecked the innings with four wickets in three overs.
Daniel Marsh (10) was caught at slip, before Shannon Tubb (4), Michael Dighton (36) and Damien Wright (0) were all caught behind. From 116 for 7, Sean Clingeleffer and Andrew Downton added 60 for the eighth wicket to prevent a complete meltdown.
Cleary, 23, said it was exciting to be part of an attack that includes Shaun Tait, 20, and Paul Rofe, 23, both of whom have both represented Australia A this season. "At the moment, the Redbacks' bowling is like a good vintage wine," said Cleary. " It is just getting better and better.
"It's probably regarded as the best attack in Australia at the moment and if we keep bowling sides out - you've got to bowl sides out twice to win four day games - come finals time we should be right around the mark."
