Former Sri Lanka batsman Kumar Sangakkara will be part of the Sky Sports coverage of England's home summer this year - a season which features full tours from Pakistan and India, as well as limited-overs fixtures visit from Australia. Sangakkara effectively replaces Shane Warne in the commentary box.
Sangakkara has been in commentary teams in England before, namely for the Champions' Trophy in 2017. While on that occasion he had had to juggle commentary duties with his playing commitments for Surrey and at the Caribbean Premier League, he has since retired from first-class cricket, freeing him up for a much larger portion of the English summer.
Whether his commentary commitments now also rule him out of playing in the Lankan Premier League (LPL) remains to be seen. Sri Lanka Cricket officials have privately expressed hope that Sangakkara - who recently played in the Pakistan Super League - will turn out for the LPL, which runs from August 18 to September 10. The India tour of England, however, does not conclude until September 11, presenting a clash.
