Martin Thursfield was a quick bowler who was unable to secure a regular place at any of the three counties he played for. He started at Middlesex, moved to Hampshire for five seasons before ending up at Sussex where he was released three months into a one-year contract. He only once took a five-for, 6 for 130 against Middlesex for Hampshire in 1994. He continued to play a good standard of club cricket in Durham.
