Dennis Lillie was a promising legspinner in Brisbane club cricket when he was called up to play for his state at the age of 20 in the 1965-66 season. After seven games with little distinction, he returned to the grade scene, seemingly never to receive further first-class honours. However, 15 years later, aged 35, he got his recall to the state side, and formed a legspinning duo with Trevor Hohns. Despite a couple of match-winning performances in tandem with Hohns in the 1980-81 and 1981-82 seasons, he was discarded midway through the latter season, as the Queensland selectors preferred a four-man pace attack which included Thomson, Rackemann and Dymock.
