A left-hand wicketkeeper batsman, Sameera de Zoysa began his first-class career with the Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club and represented them for two seasons before shifting to Ragama Cricket Club in the Premier League tournament. de Zoysa was Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper in the 2006 Under-19 World Cup at home. The 2008-09 season was his most prolific with the bat, as he scored three half-centuries and his maiden century. He bats in the top order in Twenty20 matches.
