Champions League Twenty20 - 12th match, Group A

Deccan Chargers v Trinidad & Tobago

Trinidad & Tobago won by 3 runs

8.00pm Edwards has the ball, he was taken off the attack for bowling two beamers in his last game. Lendl Simmons and William Perkins are the two openers. One slip

The Deccan team is all huddled up, and the T & T batsmen are making their way out. George Binoy has stamped out his toss bulletin, so check it out.

7.58pm The players are out in the middle and have lined up for the Champions League anthem, which, quite frankly, isn't among AR Rahman's best compositions. A trickle of T&T fans at the ground, which is great to see.

A decent crowd right now, but far from full capacity. No mention of rain yet, the conditions seem fine for the time being and lets hope it stays that way. BTW, Abhinav Kumar made an unbeaten half-century in his only Twenty20 game.

7.45pm Remember, some teams carry points through to the next stage if they qualify. Deccan, if they win this, will carry points only if Trinidad and Tobago also qualify. If T&T are thrashed, and their net run-rate falls below Somerset's, then Somerset carry points as they beat Deccan earlier in the tournament. If T&T win this, they carry points after having defeated Somerset a few days back. All this will be clear once the match ends.

7.35pm Spend plenty of time on Facebook? See what Cricinfo has to offer there. And if you are part of the Twitterati, Cricinfo is on Twitter as well.

7.30pm Time for the toss. The captains, Ganga and Gilchrist, are out in the middle. Deccan have won and opted to bowl. "The pitch is an absolute beauty," says Gilchrist. He doesn't think it'll change through the day. Harmeet Singh is out, and in comes Abhinav Kumar - an unknown commodity at this point. "It's very important that we represent the Caribbean well," says Ganga. He's going with an unchanged team.

Ian Bishop on TV says the pitch is "rock hard" with a tinge of grass. There are some cracks on the track but not too threatening. The ball should come on, and there might be some movement early on for the bowlers. Generally, a good one for batting.

7.20pm: There'll be plenty of of West Indian fans tuning into this game; they'll be relieved that the contracts row between the senior players and the WICB is on the verge of being resolved.

7.15pm Do check out our specials panel for the day. The debate surrounding the future of ODI cricket continues; Rob Steen supports the four-innings proposal. In our audio show Switch Hit, the panelists review the first week of the Champions League, talk about the new England squad and discuss the future of cricket in Zimbabwe. Some very interesting stats tidbits from our weekly column The List; George Binoy, who's the bully for this game (he's writing the bulletin) and Travis Basevi take a look at players who never scored a half-century, nor took three wickets in an innings, during their whole careers.

7.08pm Plenty of time left for the toss. So read the preview to this game in the meantime. Remember, Deccan are out if they lose this. T&T, given their high net run-rate, still stand a chance of qualifying for the next round if they are beaten. They just need to ensure they don't lose by a margin big enough to bring their net run-rate to under Somerset's -1.00.

7.00pm local time Hello and welcome to a crunch game for the Deccan Chargers, who need to win to progress to the next stage. Their opponents Trinidad and Tobago are fresh with confidence after beating Somerset convincingly, and should test the home team which is still searching for its first win in Hyderabad in eight attempts.

0.1

Edwards to Simmons, 1 run, moving away, short of a good length on the off, gets back to defend, guides it wide of point where a fumble allows them a single

Two slips

1.4

Singh to Simmons, 1 wide, down the leg side, another wide, we've seen a few today

Too many deliveries on the leg stump in the same over

1.5

Singh to Simmons, no run, short and wide, went for the cut but it whizzed past him

1.6

Just one slip

2.1

Edwards to Simmons, OUT, plumb! Short of a good length on middle, rocked back to work it square, missed, it appeared to hold its line and caught him in line, easy decision for Harper

LMP Simmons lbw b Edwards 7 (7b 1x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

Darren Bravo, who reminds you of Brian Lara with his backlift and flourish, comes in. One slip

2.2

Edwards to DM Bravo, no run, banged in short and he played it well though he he took his eyes off the ball for a moment, played it down with soft hands

End of over 3 (5 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 24/1 (RR: 8.00)

3.1

Singh to Perkins, no run, full on the off, moving in a hint, driven with a full face back to the bowler

3.2

Singh to Perkins, no run, driven well again, played off the middle but was unable to beat mid-off

He's struggling here, freehit still

3.3

Singh to DM Bravo, FOUR, he smashes it over mid-on, short on the off stump, errs in length and he connects one, finally

Venkat: "So for the only chance for Deccan to win this match is, if Edwards and RP can make as many runs with the bat as the wides given by them. Its already 3 in 2 overs, getting too much for them. They might need to beat their highst scores." Add no-balls to that, they've given too many away

Five wides and four no-balls so far, and we are only in the fourth over

3.6

Singh to Perkins, 5 leg byes, overthrows, Deccan have been poor, slower one on leg stump, gets a leg bye behind square and the fielder throws it needlessly wide of the stumps, there's no one to back up, five runs in all

A horrible over, 15 came off it. I doubt we'll see RP continuing this spell

End of over 4 (15 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 39/1 (RR: 9.75)

Edwards to Pollard, no run, another one, short again, tried to heave it over square leg once again, too quick and Pollard couldn't connect on the swing

17.5

Edwards to Pollard, SIX, connects this time after missing twice, bowled it short and he dismissed it powerfully over deep square leg for a flat six

17.6

Edwards to Pollard, OUT, yorker and timber! Hurled it into the blockhole on middle and leg, tried to drive it straight, missed and the leg stump was knocked out

KA Pollard b Edwards 31 (14b 1x4 4x6) SR: 221.42

Still, a valuable knock from Pollard. 31 off just 14 deliveries when the Deccan bowlers had pulled things back considerably

End of over 18 (9 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 135/7 (RR: 7.50)

RP comes on

18.1

Singh to S Ganga, 1 wide, and starts off with a wide down the leg side, another single conceded

18.1

Singh to S Ganga, 1 leg bye, bowled on a length on leg stump, tried to clip it through square leg, was struck on the pads, they get a leg bye

18.2

Singh to Mohammed, no run, short of a good length on the off, pushes it back to the bowler

18.3

Singh to Mohammed, 1 run, bowls it full on the off, slaps it down to long-off for a single

Bala: "Jon, Lara scored 184 I think. The next highest being in the 20s. Someone link him up with Fazeer's lyrical write-up of that knock. It is on cricinfo as part of the "The Best 5 of Brian Lara" or something like that. The way Fazeer describe the scoop over covers for six off Walsh makes you feel part of the crowd."

18.4

Singh to S Ganga, 1 leg bye, full on the pads, tries to flick it square, is struck on the pads, gets a single, RP goes up, the umpire gives it a leg bye, could have just slipped down

18.5

Singh to Mohammed, no run, struck him on the neck and he's down! Short on leg stump, went for the pull, didn't connect and was struck hard

Didn't make pleasant viewing on the replay there. He's back on his feet now, raring to go. Good stuff

18.6

Singh to Mohammed, no run, another short one, big swing again as he tries to clear square leg, misses

End of over 19 (4 runs) Trinidad & Tobago 139/7 (RR: 7.31)
D Mohammed    1* (4b)      RP Singh    4-0-22-0
S Ganga    4* (6b)      FH Edwards    4-0-32-3

Last over coming up. 150 seems a realistic target from here on, though it's still a slightly below-par score on this pitch. Symonds to bowl

19.1

Symonds to S Ganga, FOUR, full toss on leg stump, comes down and whips it away fine, wide of the diving Styris for a boundary

19.2

Symonds to S Ganga, 2 runs, low full toss on the off, driven down to long-off where Rohit fumbles, concedes two

19.3

Symonds to S Ganga, no run, swings hard, tries to get it over midwicket, lobs up on the pitch, slips as he attempts the single but has time to recover and make it back

19.4

Symonds to S Ganga, 2 runs, short on middle, pulled away wide of midwicket for a couple

19.5

Symonds to S Ganga, 1 run, in the blockhole on the off stump, dug out into the leg side, behind square, for a single

19.6

Symonds to Mohammed, 1 run, in the blockhole again, tries to smash it down the ground, gets an under edge behind point for a single to finish off the innings

150 is a gettable score on this track, especially with the kind of batting firepower Deccan have. However, T&T have done well here as far as their qualification chances to the next stage are concerned. Deccan will have to chase this down in super quick time to bring T&T's net run-rate to below Somerset's -1.00. The guys from England will not be placing their hopes on a heavy defeat for T&T from here on, given that such a result is unlikely due to their competitive score. They can only hope Deccan lose this game and continue their horrific run in their home venue.

Parijat Sen sends us the Brian Lara article that some of you mentioned
