Abu Nechim to bowl

Ahmed to Dravid, 1 run, starts with a length ball on offstump, steered towards third man, 85.3 mph

Ahmed to Kallis, OUT, Nechim has struck, it wasn't all to fervent an appeal after that ball hit Kallis on the pads, umpire didn't think too long before raising his finger though, pitching perhaps on middle and looked to be drifting down, that looks like a poor decision, particularly as he bowled that from wide of the crease, Hawk-Eye however says that it pitched on offstump and was going on to hit leg, didn't look out first time though

JH Kallis lbw b Ahmed 15 (24m 14b 3x4 0x6) SR: 107.14

Bravo to Uthappa, no run, Duminy drops it, Uthappa survives, a slower ball from Bravo, Uthappa is into his drive early and spoons it towards extra cover, Duminy times his jump perfectly but can't clasp the ball, was trying to drag it down as well when catching it

Neeraj Kanitkar: "I really, really, really hope that this isn't the future of cricket. Nothing wrong with this game/format/tournament, but then there's nothing extraordinary about it either. No context, nothing. I had much rather watch Dwayne Leverock take that Uthappa catch in the 2007 world and the the bowler crying his guts out again."

Bravo to Uthappa, OUT, the Duminy drop doesn't prove costly at all, Uthappa is gone the next ball, on the pads, whipped to deep backward square leg where Dhawan pouches it, and that's a big wicket

Bravo to Taylor, 1 wide, Bravo starts with a wide down the leg

Bravo to Taylor, OUT, Taylor has gone! Monster of a top edge for Taylor as he looks to back away and hack Bravo's full delivery over the leg side. The edge swirls high into the air, I can see the banner of the multi-storey Hilton hotel in the background, that's how high it went. In the game of two part-time keepers, Rayudu has come up trumps. He gets under that swirler and takes it with a tumble

Harbhajan Singh to White, 1 run, fuller to White who plays against the spin to mid on for one

Zaheer comes round the wicket now.

Khan to White, 1 run, short and wide outside off, cut away violently into the outfield for one

Khan to Dravid, FOUR, That's Dravid circa 2003-4 when he was an innovator par excellence in the middle order! Moves across the stumps, pre-empts Zaheer's angle and laps it away with the angle, bisecting the gap at deep square leg expertly. Shot!

Khan to Dravid, no run, Zaheer keeps this outside off, Dravid taps it to the off side

Khan to Dravid, 1 run, short outside off again, this time he gets the single with the cut shot

Khan to White, 1 run, White drops that to the off side with hands as soft as a baby's bottom. Duminy swoops in and under-arms a throw at the striker's end and misses. Dravid was in anyway

Ahmed to Kohli, no run, good stuff, it kicks up from a length and jags into Kohli who takes the top hand off as he plays to the leg side

Ahmed to Dravid, 1 run, fuller on off stump, Dravid was setting himself up for a short ball, and can only dig this out to mid off for one

Ahmed to Kohli, 1 run, Kohli flays a cut with all his might and times it immaculately... straight to Pollard on the cover boundary

Ahmed to Dravid, 1 run, yorker on leg stump, Dravid digs it out to long on. Only singles coming here.

Ahmed to Kohli, SIX, Whoa! Kohli thumps an imperious six! Short yes, but not short enough to be shovelled away. And quick too, Kohli had very little time to get into position, he rocked on to the backfoot and creamed that, off his eye brow almost, over deep midwicket

Harbhajan Singh to Dravid, no run, yorks Dravid outside off, great ball. Dravid can't do anything.

Harbhajan Singh to Dravid, 1 run, Dravid gets under this and looks to swing it over the leg side. Not too well timed, and it rolls wide of midwicket to the man in the outfield

Harbhajan Singh to Kohli, 1 run, whips this one with the spin behind square

Harbhajan Singh to Dravid, 2 runs, low full toss on leg stump, Dravid is struggling a bit for timing now, drives it out to long off, went slow enough for Kohli to hare back for the second. Dived in to make his ground, well run that.

Lots of readers writing in about the Mumbiased commentary on air. Ho hum. Malinga to bowl now.

Malinga to Kohli, 2 runs, whoa! Full outside off, Kohli looks to swing him across the line over midwicket, but only gets it over the fielder in the infield.

Malinga to Kohli, 1 run, another very full ball, drifts away outside off and Kohli squeezes it out to deep point

Malinga to Dravid, 1 run, Malinga send sin another guided missile, not his fastest, only 132 kph, but that is good enough if you get in the inch-perfect yorker. Dravid pats it meekly to mid off. The chase is losing steam here

Malinga to Kohli, 1 run, bouncer, almost catches Kohli by surprise, he plays a nothing-pull shot instead of glancing it off his hips.

Malinga to Dravid, no run, another bouncer, Malinga hits the deck at 128 kph, Dravid can't time it or middle it, bottom edge on the bounce to Rayudu

Malinga to Dravid, 2 runs, Where are the fielders?! Another full delivery outside off, Dravid shovels across the line and gets it high out to deep midwicket. No one to take the catch.

Mumbai seem set for a win here. But I doubt if it will help their cause on the NRR stakes. Nechim to bowl his last over. Good returns so far for the young man.

Ahmed to Kohli, SIX, What! A! Shot! It is a half volley, coming into middle and leg, Kohli plonks the front foot across and swings it out of the ground. Immense timing, lands well into the crowd!

Ahmed to Kohli, 2 runs, this one is wider outside off and Kohli looks to go over the off side. Not so well timed, but he gets it out to an empty deep extra cover for a couple.

Ahmed to Kohli, 1 run, Nechim is flirting with danger, bowling these length balls. Kohli can't smash this, drills it down to long on, straight to the fielder

Ahmed to Dravid, 1 bye, slow off cutter, drops it short, well done! Foxes Dravid who swings wildly at thin air. They pick a bye, Rayudu can't collect cleanly.

Sachin runs up to Nechim, has some words of advice

Wondering how Nechim managed to pull that over back, after a first-ball six? Sriram Veera in Durban knows how: "After theat first ball-six.. Zaheerspoke to Nechim every ball"

Malinga to Dravid, 1 run, Malinga begins with a fast ful toss on off stump, Dravid is getting desperate here but can't time it, inside edge behind square on the leg side

Malinga to Kohli, 1 wide, Malinga tries to out-think Kohli who is moving around his crease and goes over board. Very wide outside off and called

Malinga to Kohli, no run, You won't see too many better yorkers! Especially so in the post Wasim-Waqar era! 145 kph just outside off, Kohli's desperation came through in that wild swing. No contact.

Malinga to Kohli, FOUR, misses it by a foot this time! Kohli was waiting for it! 145 kph, full toss on middle, Kohli smacks it away across the line to the square leg boundary. Well placed too, deep backward square was running across

Malinga to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli is turning it on! Length ball from malinga this time, on off, Kohli has picked his spot and it is deep midwicket. Plants the front foot across and despatches it dismissively

Malinga to Kohli, FOUR, The best shot of them all! This is high class bowling and even better batting! Full on off stump and Kohli goes through the covers with a scythe that was all timing! Tendulkar tumbled across to the left at cover and missed it. Through to the fence.

What an over! 13 needed off 6! Kohli has played a blinder - going after Malinga, of all people! What an over! Zaheer to bowl the last.

Khan to Kohli, 1 leg bye, Zaheer has his wits about him, slower ball, off cutter at 114 kph on leg stump, Kohli did not see it coming, he was early on the pull, and made no real contact

Khan to Dravid, 1 bye, Another slower ball! Another miss! Zak is back! Off cutter outside off, Dravid misses the pull across the line and they steal a bye.

Khan to Kohli, FOUR, KOHLI!!! Zaheer tries the yorker, misses by a foot, it is a full toss on Kohli's toes, with nerves of steel and wrists of rubber he turns it away and it bullets away to deep square leg

Khan to Kohli, no run, misses this one! Length ball outside off and Kohli swings across the line. And misses. No bye this time!

7 off 2.

Khan to Kohli, FOUR, Viraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!!!!!!!! Another full toss on his toes, Kohli sees it even before Zaheer let it go, was swivelling around on his front foot even as it came and flicked it away with no fuss, down to square leg for four more

Can Virat finish this off? 3 off 1! Is it a Super Over coming up?

Khan to Kohli, OUT, The answer is no! Spare a thought for Kohli, but put ypour hands together for Rayudu who has taken another swirler under the Durban lights! Zaheer has come apart spectacularly, he delivers another full toss on Kohli's pads, Kohli was probably expecting it again, and turned his bat a moment too early, it took a top edge and looped away to the upper reaches of the stratosphere. It took an eternity to come down, but Rayudu had it covered. He throws it up in relief. Kohli is distraught. Mumbai have won a superb game of cricket here.

So, that brings the curtains down on a rare kind of game; Mumbai are disappointed despite winning. Bangalore are disappointed as well. The only people who are pleased are the neutral fans - we have seen a very good game here. Sid Monga is stamping out the bulletin at the speed at which he normally eats, so the final report should be up here pretty soon. On behalf of my colleagues, the Sids Vicious - Talya and Ravindran - and scorers Venkat Raghav and Binoy George, this is Nitin Sundar signing off. Cheers!

Tendulkar: "Yes, my heart is still pounding. The first half of our batting was great, but our bowlers came through well. The plan was for Malinga to bowl a tight (19th) over and then Zaheer would have had the cushion, but it did not pan out - this is Twenty20. Great stuff from Bravo." Ravi Shasri has it all wrong - he thinks Mumbai still have a chance. Talk about optimism. Even a mathematical miracle won't siffice though.

Kumble: "Too many runs in the last five overs. 15-20 runs. The way we bowled was really well.. Rahul and Virat took us to the last ball.. But it wasn't enough in a close game. We need to be positive and hold our catches against Lions." Well said, that.

Time for the presentation. Bravo is adjudged a deserving Man of the Match. "Hard luck, we are out of the tournament, but the aim was to win the game today and we did it. We had a very good day, and I must say well done to my team-mates." He is forlorn despite the win. Understandable.

Yogesh: "Actually what has put MI out in comparison to RCB & Lions is them not thrashing Guyana." True, that.

Paras, a fan of India, above all is disgusted. "Well done Mumbai! Within 1 stroke, you've eliminated 2 Indian sides.. excellent, keep promoting SA and Aussie sides by beating each other!"

Bangalore may be sad, Mumbai may be sadder, but Ben is surely the saddest. Or maybe he just analyses Fantasy Cricket closely. "That last ball was costly for anyone who had Kohli in the fantasy cricket. It not only dropped his RR below 200, it also deprived him of a 50 and probably MoM. So a total cost of 74 points."

What this means is that Bangalore and Lions will clash in a virtual quarter-final for the second spot from Group B in the semis. South Australia are of course already through with three wins.

Sadly for Mumbai, that is not good enough to take them through to the semi-final. Bangalore have done enough to ensure they are ahead in the NRR battle, and Mumbai finish a distant third with +0.221. Lions are at +0.716, and Bangalore despite the defeat are at +0.852. Sad from Mumbai's PoV, but they did not help their cause losing their first couple of games, especially that defeat against South Australia. Kohli seemed set to do the same thing to do them tonight - Malinga and Zaheer really crumbled under pressure, and Mumbai have managed to sneak a win here.. Just about.
