The Ashes - 4th Test

England v Australia

England won by 74 runs

Overs 1-50  | Overs 51-100

17.4

Watson to Root, OUT, there's a loud appeal for a caught behind and Root's been given not out and Clarke wants it reviewed, Watson bowled it in the channel just outside off, Root was half forward to defend, there was a sound as the ball passed the bat and Hot Spot detected an edge, the Australians were confident from the start, Hot Spot showed only a small mark. Good enough for the dismissal though

JE Root c †Haddin b Watson 16 (78m 52b 1x4 0x6) SR: 30.76

England 34/1   AN Cook 12* (56b 1x4)   SR Watson 3.4-1-3-1

39.2

Lyon to Trott, OUT, flicks off his pad, caught at short leg - and that's got him! It's that simple, Tony Hill raises his finger confidently this time and Trott knows he's hit it, looks ruefully at the sky and mooches off. It was a thin scrape off the inside edge trying to work square, it popped off the knee roll and Khawaja plunged to his right to complete the dismissal

IJL Trott c Khawaja b Lyon 49 (89m 60b 7x4 0x6) SR: 81.66

England 107/2   AN Cook 35* (127b 3x4)   NM Lyon 2.2-1-10-1

49.5

Lyon to Pietersen, OUT, Pietersen edges and he walks! Lyon continues round the wicket, tossed up outside off, the ball goes through with the arm, Pietersen was forward and across but didn't cover the line, thick outside edge and he didn't wait for the umpire to give him out, he walked

KP Pietersen c †Haddin b Lyon 26 (50m 35b 4x4 0x6) SR: 74.28

England 149/3   AN Cook 51* (155b 5x4)   NM Lyon 4.5-1-22-2

52.3

Bird to Cook, OUT, he pads up and Cook knows instantly that wasn't a wise decision at all! On a good length outside off and coming back in off the pitch, Cook was probably expecting it to move away, thrust his pad forward, no shot offered, struck in line with the off stump and the umpire gave him out in an instant

AN Cook lbw b Bird 51 (230m 164b 5x4 0x6) SR: 31.09

England 153/4   IR Bell 4* (7b)   JM Bird 14.3-6-31-1

55.4

Lyon to Bell, OUT, goes on the attack, doesn't come out of the middle and it's looped to mid-off, who takes a good, tumbling catch! Bell has done this a few times in recent months, usually to left-armers, but you wouldn't have expected it given his form this series... He skipped forward eagerly, looking to hit Lyon over the top as at Old Trafford but skewered it to Harris on the run

IR Bell c Harris b Lyon 6 (22m 17b 0x4 0x6) SR: 35.29

England 155/5   JM Bairstow 0* (9b)   NM Lyon 7.4-2-28-3

74.6

Siddle to Prior, OUT, confident shout for lbw and Aleem Dar isn't convinced and Clarke wants it reviewed, Siddle was bowling from slightly wide of the crease and it landed well outside the off stump and came back in sharply, hit him on the front pad just above the knee roll, Hot Spot did not detect an edge, Hawk Eye shows that hitting the leg stump and Aleem Dar reverses his decision

MJ Prior lbw b Siddle 17 (80m 58b 2x4 0x6) SR: 29.31

England 189/6   JM Bairstow 12* (68b 1x4)   PM Siddle 15-5-38-1

77.3

Lyon to Bairstow, OUT, Bairstow is given out lbw on the sweep and he's reviewing it, Lyon was bowling round the wicket so the question was whether this straightened enough, pitched in line with middle stump and Bairstow was looking to sweep, too early on the shot, hit on the pads, Hawk Eye shows the ball clipping the bails, the umpire's call will stay on this occasion so Bairstow has to go

JM Bairstow lbw b Lyon 14 (105m 77b 1x4 0x6) SR: 18.18

England 193/7   TT Bresnan 2* (6b)   NM Lyon 15.3-5-36-4

80.3

Harris to Broad, OUT, this has to be the softest dismissal of the day, Harris bowls it short and outside off, not sure what Broad was trying to do, he tried to slash it over the off side and the ball took the top edge and it was an easy catch at point, would have been better had he slashed over the slips instead

SCJ Broad c Warner b Harris 3 (11m 12b 0x4 0x6) SR: 25.00

England 198/8   TT Bresnan 2* (13b)   RJ Harris 14.3-2-51-1

86.4

Harris to Swann, OUT, the short ball does the trick! Harris bangs it in and the point was to get Swann to hook/pull with the fielders waiting in the deep, Swann pulls and Lyon takes the catch well in front of the rope at deep square leg

GP Swann c Lyon b Harris 13 (24m 18b 3x4 0x6) SR: 72.22

England 214/9   TT Bresnan 4* (33b)   RJ Harris 17.4-3-59-2

91.6

Bird to Anderson, OUT, it's all over! England have been wrapped up for 238. This one pitched on middle and Anderson slashed hard at it, but the late movement got him and the ball crashed into the middle stump. Excellent variation form Bird. Started with outswing, threw in a bouncer and got the wicket with one that came back in

JM Anderson b Bird 16 (22m 16b 4x4 0x6) SR: 100.00

England 238/10   TT Bresnan 12* (49b 1x4)   JM Bird 22-9-58-2
