It's hotting up in Group 1, with all the hair-raising contests.
Into the second week of the #wt20 and we are yet to see a truly titanic bearded clash. No Devcich for NZ means SA takes this round with Amla— 51allout (@51allout) March 24, 2014
For the record, Imran Tahir wasn't singing along when the South African anthem played. South Africa started off poorly, losing Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers early. Enter JP Duminy.
AB batting at 4 is the biggest waste of talent since Robert De Niro appeared in "Analyse This".— Peter Miller (@TheCricketGeek) March 24, 2014

Amla's scratchy innings ended in bizarre fashion when he smashed Corey Anderson into Duminy's bat at the non-striker's end. The ball bobbed up for an easy return catch.
Amla c. Duminy b. Anderson— Peter Miller (@TheCricketGeek) March 24, 2014
I think Yuvraj was trying to discover this dismissal yesterday— Monish (@Crownish) March 24, 2014
Amla is world class&being 1 in the world in tests and ODI at a stage proves this but,Duminy deserves 15 extra runs for getting rid of him!— michael shean (@MjShean) March 24, 2014
But Duminy was in ominous touch. He smoked boundaries to all corners of the field, and unfurled some delightful strokes.
Hmm. South Africa were going nowhere, on the verge of elimination, and have now exploded into life. Is this the anti-choke? #wt20— 51allout (@51allout) March 24, 2014
Was it another poor day for the commentators?
The weak zone/strong zone feature has taught me that batsmen struggle with balls just outside off stump and like balls on their legs.— Peter Miller (@TheCricketGeek) March 24, 2014
The thing I love most about following cricket on @ESPNcricinfo, is that it is a guaranteed Danny Morrison free zone.— TheBounce (@followthebounce) March 24, 2014
Rameez Raja called Imran Tahir "Imran Farhat"(Twice). Continue being awesome Rameez. #WT20— Anand Sharma (@Dravidist) March 24, 2014
Duminy's daredevilry brought South Africa 109 in their last 10 overs. Target 171 for New Zealand.
JP Duminy 86-0 Rest of the side 84-6— Peter Miller (@TheCricketGeek) March 24, 2014
New Zealand's chase was propelled by Kane Williamson, and after an indifferent start, Martin Guptill.
South Africa were going well Guptil now. #wt20— HoldingWilley (@holdingwilley) March 24, 2014
Morne Morkel had a ragged day, conceding 50 runs off his 3 overs. The bowling coach didn't seem to be enjoying it.
Donald always looks like he is one bad ball away from running on the pitch and showing them how it is done.— Peter Miller (@TheCricketGeek) March 24, 2014
But Dale Steyn had plans of his own. While his colleagues leaked runs to Williamson and a rampant Ross Taylor, he willed South Africa back into the game single-handedly.
Fierce, vaguely demonic, and with a new short-on-the-sides haircut, @DaleSteyn62 is starting to resemble Robert de Niro in Taxi Driver.— Alternative Cricket (@AltCricket) March 24, 2014
There are two Robert de Niro references in this report. That's how good Steyn was.
Colin Munro's switch-hits hauled New Zealand closer to the target. South Africa's hopes were going down dramatically.
Why is it that everyone has confidence in South Africa except South Africa and South African supporters?— Burton DeWitt (@bsd987) March 24, 2014
Morne Morkel capped off his poor day with a 14-run 19th over that left Steyn just 7 to defend off the 20th.
I didn't realize Ishant Sharma doubled as Morne Morkel— Burton DeWitt (@bsd987) March 24, 2014
Well, Albie damned. They went with the wrong Morkel!— Ruck&Droll (@jwcoetzee) March 24, 2014
Think Morne Morkel's fifty is my favourite from this match.— Peter Miller (@TheCricketGeek) March 24, 2014
Do pendulums go to T20 matches to learn how to swing?— Burton DeWitt (@bsd987) March 24, 2014
But Steyn was at an entirely different level today. He delivered a furiously fast over to pull South Africa through, as New Zealand bottled it against pace. It didn't help that Taylor was stuck at the wrong end for 5 balls.
This bowling really fast at the death stuff from Steyn is amateurish. He really needs more variations. Dernbach could give some tips #wt20— 51allout (@51allout) March 24, 2014
The Match award, inexplicably, went to Duminy.
Obviously Steyn can't be MoM coz he just proved to NZ he was their dad— Pradeep Ramarathnam (@congusmaximus) March 24, 2014
