ICC World Twenty20 - 12th match, Group A

South Africa v Bangladesh

South Africa won by 7 wickets (with 7 balls remaining)

Right, Shaun Pollock has the new ball. Nazimuddin and Tamim Iqbal gear up. "It's a chilly evening in Cape Town and the players are wrapped up well", says Andrew McGlashan. Ready, get set, ON ON!

"Move your feet Dr Beat" says the giant screen at Newlands. The dancers are in position and the South Africans are about to take theirs. It's Saturday evening in Cape Town and the weekend crowd is pouring in.

Toss: Graeme Smith has won the toss and South Africa will bowl first. Just the one change for the South Africans. JP Duminy comes in for the Herschelle Gibbs, down with a hamstring strain. Bangladesh are unchanged from the previous match.

Teams
Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Nazimuddin, Aftab Ahmed, Mohammad Ashraful (capt), Alok Kapali, Shakib al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Farhad Reza, Mashrafe Mortaza, Syed Rasel, Abdur Razzak

South Africa: Graeme Smith (capt), JP Duminy, AB de Villiers, Justin Kemp, Mark Boucher, Vernon Philander, Shaun Pollock, Johan van der Wath, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Makhaya Ntini

Judging by the way Aftab Ahmed and Mohammad Ashraful opened Bangladesh's campaign in this tournament, there will be no favourites for this match, despite South Africa playing in one of their best loved home venues, Newlands.

17.55: Better news. It has stopped drizzling and we will have the toss at 6 PM local time. That's five minutes from now.

Pitch: The surface appears to have quite a few cracks and the Bangladesh spinners should love this.

17.52: More encouraging news. The covers are coming off. Andrew McGlashan makes his observations, "A good crowd building up. Can the cricket team continue a good 24 hours for South African sport?"

17.45: The drizzle has picked up and more covers are on. A delayed start is likely. The groundstaff have covered the run-ups and the rest of the square. We will keep you updated.

17.40: The news from the middle isn't perfect. There's a bit of rain around and the covers are on. Andrew McGlashan, our man at the ground informs us that it is a drizzle and the fact that there's just one green sheet over the square at the moment is a good sign.

Hello and welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the Group A match between hosts South Africa and Bangladesh at Newlands in Cape Town. This is Kanishkaa Balachandran and I will take you through the first half of the innings. Sriram Veera will take you through the second.

Both teams took West Indies to the cleaners in their respective opening games at the Wanderers so the batsmen from both sides will be up against each other. South Africa have a score to settle after losing the previous encounter between them in a Super Eights match at the World Cup.

FYI , tomorrow's fixtures: (explanation, by Robin Abrahams, below) 13th Match, Group E: India v New Zealand at Johannesburg (10:00 local, 08:00 GMT)

14th Match, Group F: Australia v Bangladesh at Cape Town (14:00 local, 12:00 GMT)

15th Match, Group E: South Africa v England at Cape Town (18:00 local, 16:00 GMT) ++++++++++++++++++++++++

The teams for Group E and F were already defined in the regulations before the tournament started.

The ICC Twenty20 World Championship 2007 will be contested by 12 teams which have been 'seeded' and divided into four groups:

A South Africa West Indies Bangladesh

B Australia England Zimbabwe

C New Zealand Sri Lanka Kenya

D Pakistan India Scotland

Pakistan is D1 India is D2

Team names for the Super Eight stage are indicative based on the top two teams from the Group Stage qualifying.

If these teams do qualify they will be seeded in position 1 and 2 as specified regardless of whether they finish first or second in their group.

For example, if West Indies (A2) win Group A and South Africa come second, for the purposes of the Super Eights, South Africa will still be A1 and West Indies will be A2. If, for example, Bangladesh qualifies instead of South Africa, Bangladesh will become A1.
