ICC World Twenty20, 16th Match, Group F: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Johannesburg, Sep 17, 2007
ICC World Twenty20 - 16th match, Group F
Pakistan won by 33 runs
Played at New Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg (neutral venue)
17 September 2007 - night match (20-over match)

5.58 pm local time We're all set for the start. Salman Butt and Imran Nazir are Pakistan's openers. Nazir bats only in the fourth gear so expect him to hit or miss. Chaminda Vaas will open the bowling for Sri Lanka. Just the one slip in place. It's the same pitch that was used for the tournament opener between South Africa and West Indies on which over 400 runs were plundered.

The Sri Lankan's are in their huddle. Lasith Malinga has the name 'Tommy' on the back of his jumper. I'm assuming that he's borrowed the physio Tommy Simsek's jumper.

"Very poor attendance," says Rajesh. "There are vast empty spaces in the stands."

5.40 pm Mahela Jayawardene has won the toss and Sri Lanka have put Pakistan in.

Sri Lanka are playing the same side that stormed to the top of their group while Pakistan have made one change. Given the true nature of the pitch, they have opted for Mohammad Hafeez's offspin instead of Yasir Arafat's medium-pace.

Pakistan: Salman Butt, Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Nazir, Younis Khan, Shoaib Malik (capt), Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Kamran Akmal (wk), Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, Mohammad Asif.

Sri Lanka: Upul Tharanga, Sanath Jayasuriya, Kumar Sangakkara (wk), Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Chamara Silva, Jehan Mubarak, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Kaushal Lokuarachchi, Chaminda Vaas, Lasith Malinga, Dilhara Fernando.

5.00 pm local time Hello everybody. Welcome to Cricinfo's coverage of the Super Eights' clash between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Durban. I'm George Binoy and I'll bring you the action as it plays out at the Wanderers.

Sri Lanka are on a roll, having posted a Twenty20-record total against Kenya and brushing aside New Zealand with several balls to spare. Pakistan, on the other hand, won comfortably against Scotland but lost their nerve in a nail-biting tie against India and proceeded to lose during the bowl-out. In his preview, S Rajesh says that Sri Lanka start favourites but given their recent ODI track record against Paksitan, don't bet against the possibility of an upset.

Mohammad Asif was exceptional, taking 4 for 18 against India at Kingsmead, but he'll have to use all his nous to perform similarly on a Wanderers' pitch that has been overflowing with runs. Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lankan captain, had marked out the contest between Asif and Sanath Jayasuriya, the Man of the Match in both of Sri Lanka's victories, as vital to the outcome of the match.
