ICC World Twenty20 - 23rd match, Group F

Bangladesh v Pakistan

Pakistan won by 4 wickets (with 6 balls remaining)

Thanks Anand. The Pakistan chase is imminent and the word is that they might open with Afridi. And they are ... Afridi strides to the middle with Imran Nazir. Mashrafe Mortaza has the new ball, he's bowling from over the wicket.

0.1

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, no run, a loosener to begin with, outside off stump, Nazir lets it go through to Akmal

0.2

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, no run, this one is much closer to off stump and bounces from a good length, Nazir tries to drive off the back foot and gets beaten

0.3

A few people are having a giggle but Nazir's on the ground in some pain. He's walking off the field now.

Mohammad Hafeez has come in at No 3 after Nazir retired hurt.

0.4

Mashrafe Mortaza to Mohammad Hafeez, 1 run, full ball on off stump, Hafeez gets off the mark with a punchy off-drive to long off

0.5

Mashrafe Mortaza to Shahid Afridi, 2 runs, Afridi frees his arms and slices a full and wide delivery over point, he's not timed that well and the ball stops in the outfield as soon as it pitches

Mashrafe Mortaza to Shahid Afridi, FOUR, and again, this time Afridi mis-times the pull and even though it's more of a bottom edge than anything else, the ball still has enough power on it to run to the boundary

End of over 3 (17 runs) Pakistan 30/0 (111 runs required from 17 overs, RR: 10.00, RRR: 6.52)

12.5

13.6

Shakib Al Hasan to Salman Butt, no run, short of a length and on the off, Butt plays to the on side but is entrely unconvincing

End of over 14 (8 runs) Pakistan 100/3 (41 runs required from 36 balls, RR: 7.14, RRR: 6.83)
Salman Butt    12* (21b)      Shakib Al Hasan    4-0-17-0

He doesn't get hold of it but the fielder on the ropes in front of square on the leg side, Aftab Ahmed, holds on to a really good catch just inches in front of the ropes

Shoaib Malik c Aftab Ahmed b Mahmudullah 21 (20m 23b 2x4 0x6) SR: 91.30

14.4

15.2

Mashrafe Mortaza to Misbah-ul-Haq, OUT, very full, very straight, that's quite quick too. Misbah misses that one and it's homing in on the stumps. There's a loud shout from the bowler and up goes the finger. Could there be a bit of a wobble here? Pakistan not doing this at all comfortably

Misbah-ul-Haq lbw b Mashrafe Mortaza 1 (4m 2b 0x4 0x6) SR: 50.00

15.3

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, FOUR, very full and straight, Mortaza trying to repeat the ball that got Misbah. It's just a touch too foll and straight, though, with fine-leg in the circle. Helped along past the fielder and that's four

15.4

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, 1 run, down the pitch and carved over the off side. This is a suicidal shot from Imran Nazir. Mahmudullah runs in and dives forward but cannot hold onto the catch

15.5

15.6

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, 1 run, short of a good length and outside the off, punched through cover off the front foot for a rare sensible and risk-free run

16.2

Mahmudullah to Salman Butt, 1 run, short of a length and outside the off, cut down through point but not terribly well

16.3

Mahmudullah to Imran Nazir, 1 run, short of a driving length and outside the off, played down towards point with an angled bat

16.4

Mahmudullah to Salman Butt, 1 run, OUT, full and down the leg side, helped along over the infield. There's a simple run. Salman Butt is sauntering about outside the crease, not trying properly to make his ground. Mushfiqur Rahim is alert - something Butt certainly wasn't - and throws the stumps down. This is incredibly sloppy cricket from someone who is attempting a comeback and has just been appointed vice-captain of the team.

Salman Butt run out 21 (42m 28b 0x4 0x6) SR: 75.00

16.5

Abdur Razzak to Kamran Akmal, 1 run, full and on the stumps, bit of loop there, dug out towards cover

17.5

Abdur Razzak to Imran Nazir, no run, short of a length and wide outside the off, big slashing cut played and missed

17.6

Abdur Razzak to Imran Nazir, 1 run, flat and on the off, dabbed to the off side for a quick single. Ashraful fields but does not pick up the ball cleanly. If he had done so ...

End of over 18 (4 runs) Pakistan 129/6 (12 runs required from 12 balls, RR: 7.16, RRR: 6.00)
Imran Nazir    16* (13b 1x4 1x6)      Abdur Razzak    4-0-16-2
Kamran Akmal    2* (3b)      Mahmudullah    4-0-28-1

18.1

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, FOUR, quick, on the off, quite full, Nazir opens the face of the bat and runs the ball just wide of the wicketkeeper. No-one's going to stop that one and Pakistan get close to the target

18.3

Mashrafe Mortaza to Kamran Akmal, 1 run, short of a good length and on the pads, clipped away off the hips for a single

18.4

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, FOUR, short one banged in. There are two fielders in the deep for the ball. Mortaza can't get much bounce from this pitch at his pace, though. The ball sits up a bit and Nazir pulls well in fron of square for another boundary

18.5

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, no run, driven inside out and powerfully but straight to the man at cover

18.6

Mashrafe Mortaza to Imran Nazir, 2 runs, short of a good length, outside the off, chopped away in front of point and that's an easy couple to seal the game

Pakistan have won here, by four wickets, in a match that did not matter much. But you have to say Pakistan were nowhere near at their best against Bangladesh. Perhaps they found it hard to sustain the intensity with nothing at stake. However, even that was enough to get past Bangladesh who batted pretty frantically, with the exception of Junaid Siddique who made 71 in his first match of the tournament.

The Man of the Match for this game is Junaid Siddique for his excellent debut.

Asharful says: "We were 10-15 runs short." He talks of his team's experiences, saying, "We've done well in patches. We beat West Indies and played decent cricket. It's a learning experience for us. I think we've had a pretty ok tournament."

Malik says: "You must give the spinners credit. They bowled superbly, putting the ball in the right places. That's why they got wickets." He adds, "I asked Afridi where he wanted to open. He said he'd like to open and that's good for us."

This is Anand Vasu, signing off from this game. Do join us for the crucial India v South Africa match that's coming up in a little while.
