A local born and bred player, Duncan Brede has graduated through the junior representative ranks to make his debut for the Canberra Comets in the 1998/99 season against a New South Wales XI. Duncan played for the ACT Under 17 side in 1996/97 where he completed 20 dismissals to break the wicket keeping record and following this he was selected in the Australian Under 17 Development Squad. The following two seasons he played for the ACT Under 19 performing well with the gloves. He made his debut following the injury to Michael Robinson and the selection of Brad Haddin in the New South Wales XI. Brede plays for the Western District club in the local grade competition where he bats at first drop. He fought off competition from other keepers to be selected as the number one wicket keeper for the Canberra Comets in the 1999/2000 season. He is also a Level I qualified cricket coach and has worked as a development officer for the ACT Cricket Association. Brede comes from a sporting background with his uncle playing cricket for Singapore and his mother and auntie playing hockey for Malaysia. (Adam Morehouse, November 1999)
