Born in Southampton but raised in Cornwall, Tom Shrewsbury, an offspinner, played for Redruth in the Cornwall League and the Cornwall age-group teams before making his Gloucestershire second XI debut in 2011. Further appearances followed steadily and he was picked to tour South Africa with England Under-19s in January 2013. That summer, his Gloucestershire first XI debut came in a T20 against Glamorgan when Gloucestershire were already out of the competition; a first-class debut followed a few days later at Northampton.
