Grantley Adams played one match for Barbados as a wicketkeeper in 1925-26 but his main claim to fame was as a politician and union leader. He was president of the Barbados Workers' Union from 1941 to 1954, after serving as leader of the Barbados Labour Party from 1938 and went on to become the first Premier of Barbados, and, in 1958, the first and only Prime Minister of the West Indies Federation as leader of the West Indies Federal Labour Party. The main arirport in Barbados is named after him and he is also one of the country's ten national heroes.
