Australia brushed aside Bangladesh's challenge with ease and coasted to a ten-wicket victory. Although the match was reduced to 22-overs a side, it was not without significant landmarks.

  • When Glenn McGrath bowled Shahriar Nafees with a yorker he equalled Wasim Akram's record of 55 World Cup wickets. McGrath soon left Akram behind when he had Aftab Ahmed caught by Nathan Bracken and he finished the game with 3 for 16, taking his World Cup tally to 57.   • Ponting now shares the Australian mark with Allan Border for leading Australia in the most matches in World Cups. Mohammad Azharuddin's 23 games is the overall record in World Cups. Today's game against Bangladesh was also Ponting's 273rd one-day international, equalling Border as the second most capped Australian behind Steve Waugh's 325.
  • Australia became the first country to win 400 One-Day Internationals. In all they have played 653 matches, losing 227, tying 8 and 18 matches ended in no result.
