9.10amHello everyone - good morning if you're in Canada, good afternoon if you're in Kenya, and good [fill in as appropriate] wherever you are in the rest of the world. Welcome along to coverage of the first Group C match between Canada and Kenya.
I'm Jenny Thompson and will be joined at some point by the tireless Martin Williamson, whose preview you can be perusing here.
We expect this match to be a tight tussle to the wire, but stay with us to see how it pans out. We will of course be bringing you the toss, team news and pitch report as soon as we've got them.
We do know that yesterday the St Lucia pitch was hard and even-paced, while there is the chance of some showers during the latter part of the day, but we'll try to confirm these things for you soonest.
Something to watch out for, by the way - if he plays today, Anderson Cummins will become only the second player to represent two countries in the World Cup when he steps out for Canada; his second life beginning at 40. Cummins previously represented West Indies of course but will now play for Canada, although he's been strictly average in his appearances for the country to date - then again, his comeback came 11 years after hanging up his West Indian boots. (Kepler Wessels was the first, of course, playing for South Africa and Australia)
9.20am And Cummins plays! Here is Canada's team: 1 Geoff Barnett, 2 Abdool Samad, 3 Ashish Bagai (wk), 4 Ian Billcliff, 5 John Davison (capt), 6 Ashif Mulla, 7 Sunil Dhaniram, 8 George Codrington, 9 Umar Bhatti, 10 Anderson Cummins, 11 Henry Osinde.
Kenya's XI are: 1 Maurice Ouma (wk), 2 David Obuya, 3 Ravi Shah, 4 Steve Tikolo (capt), 5 Tanmay Mishra, 6 Nehemiah Odhiambo, 7 Thomas Odoyo, 8 Collins Obuya, 9 Peter Ongondo, 10 Lameck Onyango, 11 Hiren Varaiya.
Steve Tikolo has sent Canada in on a beautiful day. "There is some moisture in it" explained Tikolo, playing in his fourth World Cup, "and we are looking to use that to our advantage. It will probably get better as the day goes on. I think we are in for a good game."
9.30am The umpires Asad Rauf and Peter Parker, in fetching mustard shirts, make their way into the middle. A good crowd are in for this game - Canada flags around, there. Michael Atherton is surprised Kenya have sent Canada in on what looks to be a pretty dry pitch - we'll soon find out whether Tikolo's decision was a good one as here come Canada's openers Geoff Barnett and Abdool Samad.
It will be Thomas Odoyo to open the bowling.
Teething problems in the live scoring department I'm afraid - a tidy enough first over from Odoyo, but a stray loose ball allowed Samad to get off the mark with a four. Peter Ongondo at the other end now, and he opens up with a no-ball.
Sorry about this - bear with us - Canada have made a steady start, 7 for 0 from their first two overs. Ongondo started waywardly, with a no-ball and a wide, but soon found his rhythm.
Just one run from the third over, Odoyo bowling well here, finding lots of swing. The technical gremlins are still at their evil best (or worst) so please have patience in the meanwhile... Thank you!
Not much pace in this pitch, the batsmen finding most problems with the swing rather than anything else...
Still with us?! Good, good. Canada have crept up to 12 without loss from 4 overs, now, with a juicy flick for four off that last over, which was otherwise tidy.
5th over A maiden over from Odoyo - ending with a half-shout for lbw, that looked good on HawkEye, the ball pitching in line and straightening and hitting half-way up middle stump. Ongondo will continue with the sixth over.
End of over 6, Canada are now 17 for 0 after an expansive cover-drive from Barnett, who's finally opened up

Odoyo to Barnett,
no run,
a good start from Odoyo, angling that over the wicket across the lefthander who shoulders arms early

0.2 |
Odoyo to Barnett,

0.3 |
Odoyo to Barnett,
1 run,
on the money, the batsman comes forward to press that into short midwicket - Samad would have gone with a direct hit, but the throw was over the stumps

0.4 |
Odoyo to Samad,
no run,

first aggressive stroke of the innings, the ball just straying onto the leg-side, and that's picked well off middle-and-leg, as it's clipped behind square

***
So Canada have set Kenya 200 to win. Tikolo's decision to field now looks a good one, although his comment about the moisture rather suggests he was expecting his seamers to do the job. As it was, it was the spinners who were the class act, really placing the squeeze on Canada who never really got going on a slow pitch once Barnett had fallen for 41.
