ICC World Cup - 12th match, Group B

Bermuda v India

India won by 257 runs

Hello and welcome to the Bermuda v India game. I am Sriram Veera and will bring you the live ball-by-ball commentary today. Srinivas Raju will be doing the scoring.

Toss Bermuda have won the toss and chosen to bowl.

Pitch There are cracks on the turf. Apparently, according to experts, there is moisture in the air and on the pitch. It could be a iffy track to bat on. It could offer variable bounce.

Team changes Anil Kumble replaces Harbhajan Singh. And the buzz is that Sachin Tendulkar might open with Sourav Ganguly. Nope it is Robin Uthappa who has walked out with Ganguly.

If we can pull ourselves out of this hole, we can dismiss this as a bad dream, Rahul Dravid said while talking about the loss to Bangladesh that has put India's chances in jeopardy. Sanjay Manjrekar believes India need a miracle to go through to Super8s.

Here is the equation. If India are to have any chance of making it to the Super 8s, the first thing they need to do is beat Bermuda. And beat them big. Then they will have to take out Sri Lanka and go hum Beegees' staying alive. If India loses to Sri Lanka, they can sing John Denver's leaving on a jet plane. If they win they can twiddle their thumbs in the team hotel rooms and watch Bangladesh v Bermuda.

Bangladesh have the advantage of going into their last game against Bermuda, knowing exactly what they need to do get ahead of India in run-rate race. Of course, Bangladesh could beat Sri Lanka and then the rat race would be between India and Sri Lanka.

What is Bermuda thinking? Bermuda captain Irvine Romaine provides a clue. "They can be very dangerous in their current position, but we are looking to take something out of the game. We have had a good three days training and we are working continuously on our fielding, which I think can make a difference to us. Some of the smaller nations are showing what they can do and we would love to join in the upsets."

0.1

Hurdle to Uthappa, no run, Nice outswinger to start off things. Swing from the middle and leg stump line, Uthappa waits for it to curve in, pushes it back down the track

One slip in place. There is a short cover.

0.2

Hurdle to Uthappa, no run, Again some banana swing there. Slow though. Again starts off from leg and middle, curves in towards middle and off, worked to mid-wicket

0.3

Hurdle to Uthappa, 3 runs, Another one that swings away, starts off from leg and middle, moves towards middle and Uthappa this time decides to place it through the gap between midwicket and mid-on. Wise decision not to try whipping it square. It is swinging, albeit slow.

0.4

0.5

1.1

Jones to Uthappa, OUT, OMG! what a catch by Dwayne Leverock! And what wild celebrations! Let no body say anymore that a fat man can't jump! Uthappa has a nervous poke, away from the body, at a length-delivery outside off stump. It flew to the right of Leverock who hurled himself - hard to visualise, I am not lying but that's what happened- to his right and plucked it single-handed. And the celebrations followed. He ran off to nowhere in particular, changed directions and again went on a jig. The players mobbed him, few other went down in heap in midwicket in celebration. All over each other. Bermuda are overjoyed. The bowler is the bottom of that heap and hold on .. he is crying. Tears of joy! Meanwhile Leverock is busy giving flying kisses to the crowd! What a start!

2.2

Hurdle to Sehwag, no run, Full and straight, on the off and middle stump line, defended on the front foot

Sehwag would be under immense pressure. Demons are gunning for him, some time at the throat and at times, just outside off. He has fended off bounces into waiting palms, flashed deliveries in the zone to slips. Selectors, apparently, didn;t want him in. only his captain is on his side. What pressure this man must be going through.

3.4

Three more runs and India will have the record for the highest team total in the World Cups. Sri Lanka's 398 against Kenya at Kandy in 1996 is the current record. David Hemp comes on for the last over. It could be a dangerous one for Bermuda.

HRG: India finish the innings with 18 sixes, equalling South Africa's record for the most sixes in an innings. It's the sixth instance of four batsman scoring fifties in a World Cup game.

So India have done what they would have aimed for - posting a 400-plus total. They will know that Sri Lanka beat Bermuda by 243 runs and would like to win with a bigger margin that that. Their bowlers have a great chance to finish the job off now. Join us in a while for Bermuda's reply.
