S Chanderpaul    10* (23b 1x4)      CB Mpofu    3-1-7-0

End of over 6 (2 runs) West Indies 17/0 (186 runs required from 44 overs, RR: 2.83, RRR: 4.22)

S Chanderpaul    10* (23b 1x4)      CB Mpofu    3-1-7-0

6.1

6.1

Mpofu to Gayle, no run, rushes that through and, ooh, er, there's a bit of carry on to the keeper

6.3

Mpofu to Gayle, no run, slower ball has Gayle in trouble once again, playing over it, and Mpofu flashes a broad beam of a smile at nearly getting his man

6.5

End of over 7 (3 runs) West Indies 20/0 (183 runs required from 43 overs, RR: 2.85, RRR: 4.25)
CH Gayle    3* (20b)      CB Mpofu    4-1-10-0

Ireland is back into the attack now

End of over 8 (maiden) West Indies 20/0 (183 runs required from 42 overs, RR: 2.50, RRR: 4.35)
S Chanderpaul    10* (29b 1x4)      T Mupariwa    2-1-2-0
CH Gayle    3* (20b)      CB Mpofu    4-1-10-0

8.1

Ireland to Gayle, FOUR, stands up and smashes that short ball through midwicket, punished, and the pressure that was gradually building - particularly on Gayle - is immediately punctured

8.2

Ireland to Gayle, no run, off the pad and Taylor does well behind the sticks to dive to his right and stop the ball - Gayle missed out there on a poor ball

8.3

Ireland to Gayle, 4 leg byes, off the pad again, fine, not a convincing shot and this one flies through for four leg byes

8.4

Ireland to Gayle, no run, round the wicket this time and that's much better, sent down the off side channel and it's left alone

8.5

Ireland to Gayle, FOUR, good shot! Picked off the pads and driven uppishly off the toes in front of midwicket. This is more like the Gayle we know and love/loathe depending on who you support

8.6

Ireland to Gayle, no run, driven into the ground without much power and that's picked up easily

End of over 9 (12 runs) West Indies 32/0 (171 runs required from 41 overs, RR: 3.55, RRR: 4.17)

9.4

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, no run, over the wicket and that's pushed across the left-hander, starting straight but jinking away naughtily

9.5

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, no run, straight and full and Chanderpaul rolls his wrists over the ball, working that into midwicket

9.6

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, no run, pushed up there again and that's defended forward

Quiet first ten overs for West Indies, steady enough, and their opening pair are still intact despite the odd tester. For the next ten overs it will be Andrew McGnashville

End of over 10 (maiden) West Indies 32/0 (171 runs required from 40 overs, RR: 3.20, RRR: 4.27)
S Chanderpaul    10* (35b 1x4)      T Mupariwa    3-2-2-0
CH Gayle    11* (26b 2x4)      AJ Ireland    3-0-15-0

Thanks Jenny...tonight my name will be.... Anyway, a solid start from West Indies and now Chris Gayle looks keen to put his foot, this could be fun.

10.1

Ireland to Gayle, no run, typical Caribbean flourish as he picks up that full ball and slams it to mid on, but straight at the fielder

10.2

Ireland to Gayle, FOUR, this one beats the fielder...outside off stump, but Gayle doesn't care about that and disdainfully swings it past mid on with awesome power

10.3

Ireland to Gayle, no run, this is more conventional, played back to the bowler

10.4

Ireland to Gayle, 1 run, coming into the pads, Gayle tries to whip it fine but doesn't make contact and it dribbles down to fine leg...he missed out a little at that one

10.5

Ireland to Chanderpaul, no run, back and across, very solid

10.6

Ireland to Chanderpaul, no run, pushed out to cover, a very different style of game from Chanderpaul

West Indies have played it very well so far, seeing off the new ball and now cutting loose

End of over 11 (5 runs) West Indies 37/0 (166 runs required from 39 overs, RR: 3.36, RRR: 4.25)
S Chanderpaul    10* (37b 1x4)      AJ Ireland    4-0-20-0
CH Gayle    16* (30b 3x4)      T Mupariwa    3-2-2-0

11.1

Mupariwa to Gayle, 1 run, cut away off the back foot, the crowd wants another boundary but third man keeps it to a single

11.2

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, no run, back of a length, stands tall and drives this square on the off side

11.3

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, no run, misses out there, short and wide but Chanderpaul doesn't time it properly, just getting the bottom of the bat on the ball

Not much out there for the bowlers now

11.4

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, no run, watches this sail easily past

11.5

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, FOUR, beautifully driven, it was a floaty half-volley and Chanderpaul got his foot to the pitch and just stroked through the line...went wide of a diving mid off and raced away...classy shot

11.6

Mupariwa to Chanderpaul, no run, plays this at the top of the bounce, more force but less timing and straight to cover

After a promising start, the Zimbabwe bowlers are losing their way

End of over 12 (5 runs) West Indies 42/0 (161 runs required from 38 overs, RR: 3.50, RRR: 4.23)
S Chanderpaul    14* (42b 2x4)      T Mupariwa    4-2-7-0
CH Gayle    17* (31b 3x4)      AJ Ireland    4-0-20-0

Time for a change, it's Elton Chigumbura with his medium pace

12.1

Chigumbura to Gayle, no run, starts well, on middle stump, and Gayle punches to mid off

12.2

Chigumbura to Gayle, no run, ooh, that was close, angling across Gayle who tries to cut it away but is beaten by a lack of bounce and it almost takes the edge

12.3

Chigumbura to Gayle, no run, driven, one-handed, to mid off

12.4

Chigumbura to Gayle, 1 no ball, oversteps, the delivery is on middle and off and just offered to nip away, Gayle was squared-up a little but played it comfortably enough

12.4

Chigumbura to Gayle, 1 run, full, on leg stump, and that's easy pickings for Gayle as he flicks it through square leg, and the fielder does well at fine leg to keep it to one although the running might have been sharper

12.5

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, no run, full, Chanderpaul leans forward and drives to mid off

12.6

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, FOUR, great shot, another medium-paced half-volley which Chanderpaul leans into and sends speeding between mid off and cover...that raced away and Chanderpaul looks very comfortable out there

All quite easy for West Indies right now

End of over 13 (6 runs) West Indies 48/0 (155 runs required from 37 overs, RR: 3.69, RRR: 4.18)
S Chanderpaul    18* (44b 3x4)      E Chigumbura    1-0-6-0
CH Gayle    18* (36b 3x4)      T Mupariwa    4-2-7-0

13.1

Mupariwa to Gayle, SIX, that...has...gone...miles, what a strike from Gayle that has landed on the roof of the stand behind long on. It was full and he just swung the line and there was no doubt where that was heading...the bowler would have got neck-ache watching that one...immense

13.2

Mupariwa to Gayle, SIX, and again...massive! that's out the ground, this time with a pull as the bowler tries to pull his length back for Gayle is waiting for it and had no problems launching it high over midwicket..."Can we have out ball back, please"

13.3

Mupariwa to Gayle, SIX, that's three in a row! Is he trying to repeat Herschelle Gibbs's record. Similar to the first one, thumped high over long on and that was only heading one direction...outta here

13.4

Mupariwa to Gayle, no run, good effort from Mupariwa, keeps his head and finds the block hole, work to cover

13.5

Mupariwa to Gayle, no run, and another good full ball, Gayle is looking to go big but can't get underneath it

13.6

Mupariwa to Gayle, no run, clever slower ball, Gayle was winding up but picked the change of pace and blocked it...considering the first three balls went for three that was a decent effort to finish the over

That really put West Indies on their way, and Prosper Utseya is going to try a change of pace by bringing himself into the attack...inside the Powerplay, this could be interesting when Mr Gayle gets on strike

End of over 14 (18 runs) West Indies 66/0 (137 runs required from 36 overs, RR: 4.71, RRR: 3.80)
CH Gayle    36* (42b 3x4 3x6)      T Mupariwa    5-2-25-0

14.3

Utseya to Chanderpaul, no run, punched to cover, a fumble but it doesn't cost any runs

14.4

Utseya to Chanderpaul, no run, another leave as Utseya fires this one through a little more

14.5

Utseya to Chanderpaul, no run, bat and pad close together, nothing doing

14.6

Utseya to Chanderpaul, no run, driven into the covers, excellent diving save and it gives Utseya a maiden to start with

End of over 15 (maiden) West Indies 66/0 (137 runs required from 35 overs, RR: 4.40, RRR: 3.91)
S Chanderpaul    18* (50b 3x4)      P Utseya    1-1-0-0
CH Gayle    36* (42b 3x4 3x6)      T Mupariwa    5-2-25-0

No signal for the third Powerplay...and it isn't being taken, Utseya just trying to slow the scoring. Plenty of scouts out for Gayle, fielders all around the fence...Chigumbura's turn to Gayle

15.1

Chigumbura to Gayle, 1 run, driven down to long off, not timed well

15.2

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, no run, on middle and leg, worked to midwicket, a much more gentle pace of the game when Shiv is on strike

15.3

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, 2 runs, rolls his wrists nicely, works into the gap at square leg with decent timing and placement, long leg cleans up

15.4

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, 1 run, heading way down the leg side, Chanderpaul manages to get a touch on it and sends it down to long leg

15.5

Chigumbura to Gayle, 1 run, driven to man sweeping on the cover fence

15.6

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, no run, on leg stump, flicked to square leg, and that's drinks

slip in

16.1

16.2

Utseya to Gayle, 1 run, cut away through point, there's a man on the fence to keep it to one

16.3

16.4

Utseya to Chanderpaul, no run, again driven back down the pitch, well fielded by Utseya in his follow through

16.5

Utseya to Chanderpaul, no run, extra flight on that one, Chanderpaul nudges it back and Utseya fields again

16.6

Utseya to Chanderpaul, no run, lets this one go past...another tidy over from the skipper

Utseya doing a good job but he'll need help, and wickets, from the other end

End of over 17 (1 run) West Indies 72/0 (131 runs required from 33 overs, RR: 4.23, RRR: 3.96)
S Chanderpaul    21* (58b 3x4)      P Utseya    2-1-1-0
CH Gayle    39* (46b 3x4 3x6)      E Chigumbura    2-0-11-0

17.1

Chigumbura to Gayle, 1 run, too much width and Gayle can free his arms, slashing this through the covers and out to the sweeper

17.2

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, no run, worked to midwicket, they think of a single but quickly realise it wouldn't be a good idea

17.3

Chigumbura to Chanderpaul, OUT, gone! that came out of nowhere really, good line and length on off stump, Chanderpaul pushes at it and gets an outside edge low to the lone, wide slip where Sibanda takes a very good catch

S Chanderpaul c Sibanda b Chigumbura 21 (77m 60b 3x4 0x6) SR: 35.00

Vital breakthrough for Zimbabwe, it was a good ball from Chigumbura...now, can they apply some pressure on the new man, Ramnaresh Sarwan, who made 49 in the opening match against Pakistan

17.4

Chigumbura to Sarwan, no run, watches his first ball go past off stump

End of over 18 (1 run) West Indies 73/1 (130 runs required from 32 overs, RR: 4.05, RRR: 4.06)
RR Sarwan    0* (3b)      E Chigumbura    3-0-12-1
CH Gayle    40* (47b 3x4 3x6)      P Utseya    2-1-1-0

18.1

Mpofu to Gayle, OUT, gone! what a breakthrough, Mpofu's first ball back is just outside off stump, Gayle has a nibble and the edge flies to Taylor's left, it's a regulation catch but he tries to take it one-handed, palming it away, but Sibanda is behind him to catch the rebound...almost a replay of the one Taylor shelled against Ireland, only to be rescued by Sibanda's sharp reflexes

CH Gayle c Sibanda b Mpofu 40 (82m 48b 3x4 3x6) SR: 83.33

Game on?

18.2

Mpofu to Samuels, 1 wide, doh, drifting down the leg side

18.2

Mpofu to Samuels, no run, lets this go past

That catch from Sibanda just gets better, he was actually wrong-footed but managed to stick out his left hand and hold on as he ran behind Taylor...also looks like Gayle might actually have been trying to leave it and the ball ran off the edge of his bat

18.3

Mpofu to Samuels, no run, another leave, Samuels makes a watchful start

18.4

Mpofu to Samuels, no run, pushed to midwicket, Samuels is keen to get going but their isn't one there and a direct hit might have had him struggling

Chigumbura to Lara, no run, defended tidily

45.5

Chigumbura to Lara, 1 run, chopped down late to third man

45.6

Chigumbura to Bravo, no run, comes forward and stands tall, defending that on the front foot

Earlier in the day, when Zimbabwe were 31 for 3, nobody was expecting that the game would be taken right towards the final overs - not in competitive terms, mind

End of over 46 (3 runs) West Indies 187/4 (16 runs required from 24 balls, RR: 4.06, RRR: 4.00)
DJ Bravo    33* (44b 2x4 2x6)      E Chigumbura    9-0-35-1
BC Lara    31* (59b 1x4)      CB Mpofu    8-1-27-1

46.1

Mpofu to Lara, no run, a tidy piece of fielding at backward point, taking the non-striker's stumps with a direct hit, but the batsman was well in

46.2

Mpofu to Lara, no run, another play and miss from Lara, slashing wildly with an airy cover drive, but undone by the lack of bounce on that occasion

46.3

Mpofu to Lara, 2 runs, wide of the man Sibanda at gully and Matsikenyeri does very well, once more, in the deep - he's fielded so well today

46.4

Mpofu to Lara, 1 run, played to wide mid-on

46.5

Mpofu to Bravo, FOUR, he was going to flash and he flashed hard - and that's a wild edge that flies behind, very fine, and the ball flies up and on its way to the boundary

46.6

Mpofu to Bravo, no run, oh, nearly gets his man there with a prod over the ball

West Indies verging on the win, but the batting hasn't been that brilliant this innings, in truth

End of over 47 (7 runs) West Indies 194/4 (9 runs required from 18 balls, RR: 4.12, RRR: 3.00)
DJ Bravo    37* (46b 3x4 2x6)      CB Mpofu    9-1-34-1
BC Lara    34* (63b 1x4)      E Chigumbura    9-0-35-1

47.1

Chigumbura to Lara, no run, across Lara and he fends it down off the back foot

47.2

Chigumbura to Lara, no run, a sliver of width outside off and that's worked straight to the man at cover with one bounce

47.3

Chigumbura to Lara, no run, straight up there and that's defended with a very straight bat

47.4

Chigumbura to Lara, FOUR, lovely high backlift brought down like an inevitable guillotine with a lovely cover drive

47.5

Chigumbura to Lara, SIX, great way to finish with a beautiful aerial drive over midwicket, these last two shots being a treat for the fans who, with the exception of Gayle, too, have had few moments of pure entertainment

West Indies win this match at last - and are into the Super Eights - with a victory that was inevitable as soon as they Zimbabwe three down really early on. What was surprising was the hard work they made of the victory in the end, Zimbabwe just about making it over 200 and then West Indies taking their time to get to their victory which was, at least, always expected. "It's good to get it over with," says Chris Gayle after the match, who chuckles when asked if he had Herschelle Gibbs's six sixes in mind as he sent the first three balls of one over into orbit.

Thanks for joining us today and do come back tomorrow when Scotland will be taking on South Africa, while Kenya face New Zealand.
