Afghanistan cruised to a seven-wicket win over Scotland, riding on an unbeaten maiden century from opener Nawroz Mangal and a fifty from Samiullah Shenwari, in their ICC World Cricket League championship match in Dubai.
Chasing a target of 200, Afghanistan suffered an early setback after Iain Wardlaw had opener Mohammad Shahzad caught behind in for 19 in the third over. Asghar Stanikzai and Rahmat Shah also fell cheaply and in the 13th over Afghanistan were 59 for 3.
Mangal and Shenwari dispelled any fears of a collapse, though, sharing an unbeaten, match-winning stand of 144 runs. Mangal raced to his century, going from 73 to 103 in the space of eight balls. He hit three sixes and a four, taking 25 runs off Preston Mommsen in the 30th over and then dispatched the fourth ball of the 31st over for a four to bring up his hundred. His positive intent rubbed off on Shenwari, who also opened up with a flurry of boundaries to bring up his fifty and take Afghanistan to victory in the 34th over.
Afghanistan's bowlers had played their part in the victory by stifling Scotland after they had chosen to bat, with Gulbodin Naib, Dawlat Zadran and Hamid Hassan making early inroads. Matt Machan and Richie Berrington tried to consolidate the innings by adding 99 runs in 160 balls, but Machan's wicket triggered a collapse as Berrington and Mommsen were dismissed in quick succession. Scotland were reduced to 141 for 5 from 133 for 2 and some tight bowling from Afghanistan ensured the batsmen struggled for runs in the final overs. Naib took 4 for 31 in nine overs while Hassan and Zadran picked up two wickets each.

i think mohammad nabi captancy is going well he must maintain the captancy for afghanistan and he is such star as well in afghan cricket team.
Posted byFirst let me say that, Outstanding performance in all aspects, second congrats to all Afghans. I am just adding some recomendations to my cricket team that I have seen their matches. Since the time has arrived now, one thing the Afghan players should really work on, think about, and put in practice... is ones and twoes. They should promote and improve themselves in this particular area. To win and compete with Top teams, U need to work around the balls. Another aspect which is also important, is to have the patient to stay on the crees in order to play all their overs. At the end congrats to Nawroz for th Ton and hope to see you boys in Top level soon. Keep up the good work.
Posted by cheenar-khan on (March 7, 2013, 11:28 GMT)Deer kha azmaro. well done boyz, you made us proud. Good to see Nowroz getting into form as it will really boost Afghanistan's batting. I hope Nabi can handle the pressure of captaincy and still perform well. Lets hope Afghanistan win the next game by even a bigger margin to get ahead of scotalnd and qualify straight from the championship league if namibia wins both matches for netherlands and ireland win from uae. LETS GO AFGHANS LETS GO

Posted byCongrats for all Afghans, the played very well......I guess all what Afghan team needs,is exposure to International cricket....matches with Pakistan and Bangladesh premier league really helped them gain experience...They have really talented players but experience is a must, whatever the talent may be....I hope Afghan team find more opportunities to play with Pakistan,India and Bangladesh cricket teams..at least with their A level teams......
Posted byFor Nowroz better to play as team member than captain. Coz he plau well
Posted bySalam and Congrats To all afghan Brothers, This is the 3rd continues match that Afghanistan has won , i personally think This is because of the Bangladesh league and Pakistan Tour which boosted their confidence. regarding Nawroz Mangal i think he will perform better more and more because his shoulders are not having the captaincy responsibility. That was a good step by Afghanistan Cricket Board.
I want to see them in ranking soon Inshallah
Posted byMangal proved today that no matter if he's leading his side or not, he is still a world class player. Hats Off! to you, the cricket legend.

Posted byGreat Victory, Keep it up guys. Proud to be Afghan.
Posted byKudos to the Afghan side. The next step for them is to play ODI/test matches against A sides from Pakistan, India, Australia etc. The more often they play against such sides, the better and more experience they will gain. All the best.

Congrats for Naib for his career best bowling figures (4/31) in ODIs. Hope to see similar performance from our HEROES in their future games, too. All the best AFGHANISTAN!!!
