West Indies will play the three-match Twenty20 series against England with the same squad they had named for the upcoming World T20 in Bangladesh, as they look to get some practice ahead of defending the title they won in 2012.

Darren Sammy will lead an experienced side that includes the likes of Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Ravi Rampaul and Denesh Ramdin.

The team will be without Kieron Pollard, who is still recovering from a knee injury sustained from playing a charity football match. Fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell, who was a surprise inclusion in the World T20 squad, could receive his first limited-overs cap before West Indies make the trip to Bangladesh. There was once again no place in the team for Tino Best, who hasn't made an international appearance since January.

West Indies' T20 form has been poor lately, having lost five of their last six matches, including a six-wicket capitulation to Ireland in Kingston last month. They play the first of three matches in Barbados, on Sunday.

West Indies squad: Darren Sammy (capt), Samuel Badree, Dwayne Bravo, Johnson Charles, Sheldon Cottrell, Andre Fletcher, Chris Gayle, Sunil Narine, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell, Marlon Samuels, Krishmar Santokie, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith.

Squads and captains do not matter until there is a change from the administrative level right down to the coaches, selectors and even the groundstaff who prepare pitches. If this is not addressed, just changing and chopping players and captains would result in the same misery in which we presently find ourselves.

@ openbat04 with Darren " i'm playing a test match' Bravo in the t20 team it frther weakens the batting. he soaks up a whole lot of dot balls, does not bowl, does not field that well. him being in there leaves a whole lot of work for the lower order to do because he does not score fast enough if at all

Posted by   on (March 7, 2014, 21:35 GMT)

can someone pls tell me the point of the cpl? good players came out of it but why do they never get a chance?

Posted by openbat04 on (March 7, 2014, 19:07 GMT)

they left out darren bravo, their batting is weak, i expect to see them getting bowled out a few times in this tournament.

Posted by rayinto on (March 7, 2014, 18:55 GMT)

West Indies are totally unpredictable as most of these guys just play good in 1 in 10 games. They have to hope that on any given day, 4 of them click. If anyone can recognize a world class player in this pack, please point them out to me.

Posted by   on (March 7, 2014, 16:40 GMT)

Right now there is only one format we play hopeful but doubtful!!!

Posted by   on (March 7, 2014, 13:01 GMT)

side is good, charles need to come back in form so that we can open up space for another fast bowler... too much all rounders as usual

Posted by   on (March 7, 2014, 12:47 GMT)

Andre Russell and Andre Fletcher continue to fail yet the selectors continue to keep them on the team. I may be proven wrong but they are both at sea at the highest levels of the game. This team can kiss the championship goodbye.

I am disappointed that there's no Daren Bravo or Barnwell in the squad for the T20 world cup. I think the selectors, for the next three years should have the following squads: Tests- Gayle, Powell, Sarwan (c), Daren Bravo, S.Chanderpaul, M.Samuels, Ramdin (vc), Jerome Taylor, S. Narine, Rampaul, K. Roach, J.Holder, D.Bishoo, T.Chanderpaul, D.Bravo, C.Baugh, K. Roach. ODIs- Gayle, L.Simmons, M.Samuels, Daren Bravo, K.Pollard, Sarwan (c), Ramdin (vc), Dwayne Bravo, S.Narine, J. Taylor, R.Rampaul, J.Holder, K. Roach, Johnson Charles, T. Chanderpaul, S.Badree. T20s- L.Simmons, Johnson Charles, M. Samuels, Daren Bravo, K. Pollard, Dwayne Bravo (c), D.Sammy, N. Pooran, S.Narine, J.Holder, Santokie, Rampaul, A. Russell, C.Barnwell, C.Baugh, S.Badree.

For each squad, the first eleven players listed could be the starting eleven, provided that we really want to be competitive in the longer formats of the game.

west indies change their present pitches...need to give pitches which helpful to fast bowlers like new zealnd, england and south africa..

Posted by JermanSoldier on (March 7, 2014, 5:02 GMT)

There is no point in calling Sarvan for a t20 series. If at all he cud be called back, that cud be for tests. And if he performs well in tests he cud be considered for ODIs as well. Also no point in making him captain in any of the formats at this stage of his career. In tests, its Ramdin whoa going ro take over from Sammy.

So u sarvan fans, understand the facts before u comment for ur player...

@garfield clarke....brillant!!!!...my thought exactly...couldnt have said it better.

Posted by   on (March 7, 2014, 4:47 GMT)

Wait a minute...how did Kieron Pollard end up playing football in January? Was that January 2013? I thought Kieron was injured some time last year, and was recovering! Did he play football when he was suppose to be in recovery? I am confused? Anybody has any answers?

Santokie-Narine- badree will be key to their title defence in wc 2014

Posted by   on (March 7, 2014, 3:03 GMT)

West Indies needs a solid opening pair. Until the middle order stops getting exposed to the new ball. WI will always have scoring problems

Posted by   on (March 7, 2014, 2:21 GMT)

1. Gayle 2. Simmons 3. Samuels 4. Bravo 5. Smith 6. Russell 7. Sammy 8.Ramdin 9. Narine 10. Santokie 11. Badree Charles, Fletcher & Cottrell are "A" teamers. Would prefer Holder or Taylor ahead of Rampaul in this format. Like Smith at 5 because he can clear boundary, Simmons is a one bouncer who can benefit from field restrictions in T20's. Batting goals team should practice and aim for at WC. Overs 1 - 6 @ 10 per = 60 (can sacrifice up to 2 wickets to achieve goal) 7 - 15 @ 9 per = 81 (can sacrifice another 2 wickets plus any saved from first 6) 16 - 20 @ 12 per = 60 (Smith, Russell & Sammy finish) Otis should be able to figure bowling (his speciality)

andre flecher is a let down what happen to the guyanese players

for all my concern england should just white wash them

Posted by RAYKAY on (March 6, 2014, 23:56 GMT)

Nicolas Pooran should have been included in the squad there is no place for Fletcher, I presume he was selected as back up for Ramdin, well Pooran or Simmons could have done that job. Pooran did well in the recently concluded world under 19 tournament, may be he is to young, if he was in any other cricketing nation and the situation was the same Pooran would have been selected in front of Fletcher. Only the WICB will select Fletcher in front young Bravo. SORRY to many Trinidadians. May be soon the whole of the WI will be Trinidadians. Where are the Guyanese, nil. Barbados you have one, soon you will be left out. Good luck WI.

the eleven to win games is as follows 1 Gayle,2 Simmons, 3 Sarwan,4 Samuels, 5 Bravo, 6 Ramdin,7 Barnwell, 8 Narine, 9 Rampaul, 10 Beaton, 11 Best, and captain will be Sarwan,if we want to win games.

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 23:16 GMT)

the mindset of west indies selectors and Gibson is simple, "let's put 8 or nine voopers" in there and we will make runs. based on this analysis these people are incapable of selecting a team. good bowlers will demolish them and these so called bowlers with the exception of Narine will be leaking runs like a sieve. where is the WICB or maybe they also lack cricketing credentials to realise this team will be the laughing stock of the t20 tournament.

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 22:42 GMT)

Andre fletcher should not be in this team period ! Barnwell or Sarwan should be in this team , they are far better than him !!!!

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 21:43 GMT)

The team should be picked based on the conditions.I do not think Fletcher is good on slow turning pitches, where spin bowling will be King there.

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 19:45 GMT)

I think Kevon Cooper should be on this team

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 17:45 GMT)

The dilemma of selecting players based either on form, fitness, consistency or x-factor.

In regards to the "batsmen" on this list, many of them (i.e gayle and the gang) have that x-factor, the ability to single-handedly take the game away from the opposition, but they are all currently lacking in the other departments. The few that check off on all these conditions (based on current form) seems to be simmons, ramdin, dj bravo and sammy. But these are lower order players. As was evident from the recently concluded ODI series vs ENG, WI needs to work on their top and middle order batting if they are to win anything in the WT20.

Posted by abde5551 on (March 6, 2014, 17:24 GMT)

My XI on current form and playing conditions: 1)Gayle 2)Charles 3)Fletcher 4)Samuels 5)Simmons 6)Bravo 7)Ramdin 8)Sammy 9)Narine 10)Santokie 11)Badree Knowing how WI bat, they have to play 8 batsmen. On a fast pitch swap badree for rampaul/cottrell. On form/performance, swap fletcher/charles for smith/russell as and when needed.

Posted by aclarity on (March 6, 2014, 17:17 GMT)

This is not a bad team for Coach Gibson. You cannot put young players under him; they always come out worse at the other end. Charles and Fletcher are very lucky because Charles is a joke and Fletcher is always asleep. Badre is beyond his best and so too are Ravi and Gayle. Historically Ravi cannot play two consecutive matches well. This last ODI series with England demonstrates this but the selectors and Gibson have not realized yet. Has anyone checked the fielding: Narine, Ravi, Samuels, Gayle, Smith, Badre, and even Bravo and Sammy have fallen back considerably. Woops! We are just making a turn to come back with more talk from Gibson.

Top scorer in domestic t20 more runs than gayle, misbah, and plenty of other world class cricketers and played 2 less matches...shhhhh

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 16:45 GMT)

Why is Andre Fletcher in the team....

Posted by Ncnotorious on (March 6, 2014, 16:05 GMT)

andre fletcher is good? lol

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 15:31 GMT)

Even a spin bowling team like Bangladesh will distroy this batting line up not to mention the super pacers from all the top seven teams.

Posted by dclar301 on (March 6, 2014, 15:29 GMT)

i wonder what Fletcher is good at ? Could it be the number of times he gets out without scoring?

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 15:03 GMT)

Andre Fletcher is in this team because he is properly good Troy, any more questions?

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 14:15 GMT)

Why is Andre fletcher in this team

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 13:23 GMT)

oh when the west indies click im sorry for which team is going to happen to because its going to be real damage

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 13:07 GMT)

west indies will be humbled by england and wwill be vaporised in the world t20,then maybe the wicb will fire the selectors and coach otherwise the the whole board should resign. this team with two walking wounded (gayle and samuels) has no batting and no proper bowling. this is a shame

Posted by   on (March 6, 2014, 13:04 GMT)

Wow 12 bowlers, 2 wicket keepers and no batman.
