England in West Indies ODI Series - 1st ODI

West Indies v England

West Indies won by 15 runs

Out come the teams and it's going to be Joe Root to open the bowling...

A word on the Windies, they come off the back of a tricky little series against Ireland with mixed success. They'll be hoping to try to develop some form here and go into the defence of their World T20 title in good shape. No Chris Gayle for them today, he's injured and obviously a massive loss. No Kieron Pollard or Kemar Roach either.

9.15am England's latest recruit is Paul Collingwood, not in a dramatic playing comeback but as part of the coaching staff. Injuries in the camp also mean he'll be the 13th man today and ICC regulations state the 12th man must wear an unnamed shirt, of which England don't have any, so Colly's had to borrow a shirt from a supporter!

9am Time for the toss and it's Stuart Broad striding out to lead the 50-over side for the first time in the absence of Alastair Cook. Dwayne Bravo has the coin, Broad calls heads and calls correctly and England will bowl first, Bravo would have had a bowl too.

West Indies 1 Dwayne Smith, 2 Kieran Powell, 3 Kirk Edwards, 4 Darren Bravo, 5 Lendl Simmons, 6 Dwayne Bravo, 7 Dinesh Ramdin, 8 Darren Sammy, 9 Jason Holder, 10 Sunil Narine, 11 Ravi Rampaul

England 1 Michael Lumb, 2 Moeen Ali, 3 Luke Wright, 4 Joe Root, 5 Ben Stokes, 6 Jos Buttler, 7 Ravi Bopara, 8 Tim Bresnan, 9 Chris Jordan, 10 Stuart Broad, 11 James Tredwell

Mark: "Fantastic to see Moeen Ali get a cap. He really deserves it and must have a tremendous chance to get into the Test side in the summer given that he is a pretty decent spin bowler in a Swann-less side without heir apparent."

England really are in a state of limbo at the moment haven't dispensed with the services of both team director Andy Flower and star batsman Kevin Pietersen. They are searching for a new team and a new coach, with Ashley Giles - the current one-day coach - the favourite to unite the crowns. But, writes George Dobell, his job interview is hampered by the loss of 50-over specialists. More defeats in the West Indies will do nothing for his CV.

8.45am ECT Hello everyone, England are back - we weren't away for long were we! Alex Winter signing in for the start of the new era of English cricket, they're in the Caribbean for the first of three ODIs all at the same ground in North Sound. Three T20s to follow and then everyone heads to the World T20 in Bangladesh. It's a step into the unknown for England with a lot of new faces, many 50-over regulars have been left at home. Two of them are going to make their debuts today with Moeen Ali and Michael Lumb handed caps on the outfield.

It's time for one of the unbowled quicks to get his chance: Chris Jordan into the attack

23.1

Jordan to Simmons, 3 runs, starts full and wide, a rare chance to free the airs and it's driven strongly square through the off side

23.3

29.2

Jordan to DJ Bravo, no run, drags the length back, gets it straighter, defended to short mid-on

These two have nicely found a platform and Ramdin, Sammy and the tail could have a chance of a good hit in the last few overs, 220 could be a very handy score on this wicket. Jordan is out of the attack and Tim Bresnan returns...

DJG Sammy c Broad b Bresnan 61 (52m 36b 5x4 4x6) SR: 169.44

1.10pm, tea Well that was your archetypal game of two halves. England struck early on and it looked like a struggle towards 200 for West Indies but the recovery led by Lendl Simmons laid a platform which Dwayne Bravo and then Darren Sammy thrived on, taking 116 from the final 10 overs, and 85 from the final five, to get their side to a very competitive score. That will take some chasing and England will have a go in around 40 minutes time where Gnasher will be back with you...
